Dads OK MOA with DA for corn production

CAGAYAN de Oro City -- The City Council during its regular session enacted Ordinance No. 13120-2016, authorizing the city mayor to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agriculture, Regional Office Field No. 10 (DA-10), covering the grant of One Unit Corn Mill (Mobile) in Cagayan de Oro City.

Stipulated in the MOA is DA’s implementation of the Corn Program to enhance agricultural productivity and production and as a strategy of realizing the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Plan (AFMP).

The DA is mandated to promote the agriculture sector through the provision of appropriate support services under the Corn Program.

One component of the said Corn Program is the provision of corn mill to local government units for the corn farmers in their locality. This is to provide the needs of local governments of a corn mill to See ok, page A11

PDIC advises borrowers of Rural Bank of Claveria (Cagayan), Inc. to pay their obligations The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC), the Receiver of the closed Rural Bank of Claveria (Cagayan), Inc., reminded borrowers of the bank that they are under obligation to pay their loans.

PDIC advised borrowers to transact only with authorized PDIC representatives, emphasizing that it has not engaged any person, agent or agency to collect the loan payments for and in behalf of the bank.

Rural Bank of Claveria was prohibited from doing

Republic Cement underscores environmental commitment with national greening initiatives Republic Cement joins various stakeholders for tree-planting projects R epublic C e m e n t strengthens its drive for environmental responsibility with the conduct of nationwide greening initiatives. The efforts are part of the company’s recently introduced iSTAND4 program, its commitment to CSR and sustainability leadership.

“Responsible stewardship of our natural resources has always been at the heart of our operations,” said Renato Sunico, president of Republic Cement and Building Materials, Inc. “Reforestation activities are an integral part of our environmental program and reflect our support of the country’s sustainability goals.”

In s u p p o r t o f t h e DENR’s National Greening Program (NGP), Republic Cement has reforested over 700 hectares in different communities situated near its facilities from 2013 to 2016, and has led in the stewardship of these areas in partnership with six upland People’s Organizations.

Over 400 families living in these communities have benefited from the

livelihood for the care and maintenance of these reforestation areas and opportunities derived from the fruit-bearing trees and intercropped plants grown in the areas. Such is the company’s active participation in the NGP, which seeks to plant 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares across the country to attain sustainable human development and ecological security.

To complement these initiatives in the upland areas, Republic Cement has also partnered with the

local Environment Offices for the rehabilitation of mangrove forests in coastal areas of the Visayas and Mindanao where they have operations. Its Danao and Iligan plants worked hand in hand with stakeholders, including the local barangay councils to plant a total of 20,000 red mangrove propagules. Supporting the government’s Mangrove Reforestation Program, the activity aims to restore the health of the mangrove forests located in Brgy. Dancar, Cebu City and Bayug Island, Iligan

City that were devastated by typhoons Sendong and Yolanda.

As part of its Luzon greening initiatives, Republic Cement’s Teresa plant and Makati head office joined the Rizal provincial government’s bamboo planting activity in celebration of the province’s 115th anniversary.

Planting young bamboo plants along the Paenaan River, the project aims to regulate water levels and control soil erosion in the area while providing potential food source and

handicraft raw materials for the local community.

Republic Cement also joined other companies under the Aboitiz Group for the latter’s annual group-wide simultaneous tree-planting activity held in 21 locations nationwide.

Planting a total of 76,000 fruit-bearing, hardwood, and other indigenous types of seedlings, the initiative is part of the Aboitiz Group’s A-Park program, which aims to plant six million trees by 2020. Republic Cement representatives from its

Makati head office, Teresa and Batangas plants participated in the Calauan, Laguna leg of the activity.

Sunico shared that volunteers come from the ranks of Republic Cement’s employees, reflecting a company culture that is deeply committed to the care of the environment.

He adds, “Our employees’ support demonstrates a shared love and concern for the environment. They have been our tireless allies in driving sustainability within and outside the company.”

Why? Because the SPC is the Philippine institution that exclusively prints our money and mints our coins, which we use for our daily activities and transactions.

Also, the SPC refines our gold for sale to the international market.

Over the years, SPC has taken on additional fumctions. The SPC now also produces state decorations and presidential medals, judicial forms for the Land Registration Authority, passports for the Department of Foreign Affairs and commemorative coins and medals for government and private institutions.

Tetangco noted that SPC has “delivered consistently high quality banknotes, coins and refined gold.”

What is more fascinating is the fact that the government of these places and dozens of civilians have joined the military in pursuing the fleeing bandits into the hill of death. The local residents and town officials have been angry with the criminals who have been giving trouble of their places. With he participation of the civilians who knew the terrain around, the military makes advances in smiles.

Abu Sayyaf has gone so far in embarrassing our country in its business of kidnapping for ransom and beheading captives. A lot of people have cheered for the military in its efforts to annihilate completely the group who are a hindrance to the growth and development of the country.

Many foreign investors have expressed fear they might be kidnapped or disturbed by this group who are evil of Philippine society.

People in Jolo and Basilan are seeing the beginning of an end of an era of troublemakers and robbers in the vicinities who utterly ruled the areas. The war in Jolo is not like those fight of past administration that orders a ceasefire when the enemies are cornered.

This time it is a war that knows no mercy and politics. No holds barred and true expertise in battles is appropriately in place.

I urge the Filipino people to support our soldiers at all times to end all hostilities prevailing in the area of Jolo and Basilan for decades. Peace must come as a prelude to all places in Mindanao.

I had been to Jolo and Basilan some years ago and I saw the beauty of these places in extreme peace as just like any other cities in Mindanao. Basilan has big business buildings and reachable by motorized boats in an hour travel from Zamboanga City.. One has to take buses to go to Isabela, the more populated and considered s center of commerce.

In the entire country, it is only in Jolo where the airport is located so near to the downtown area. One may walk to take a plane ride. And it is in this city where I almost got killed by an abusive constabulary officer who pulled his gun and aimed at me when I accidentally stepped on his shoes. While part of our printed money requirements (and all coin blanks) is still outsourced, local production now insures that we are able to maintain a comfortable buffer and contingency supply at all times.

Printed money has to be replaced regularly. Printed money has an average shelf life of one to three years, depending on frequency of use. Expectedly, lower denominated bills have a shorter life span than higher denominated bills.

Bonbon celebrates Tambanipa Festival

BARANGAY Bonbon led by the indefatigable barangay chair Jacky Biongcog-Merto once again celebrated the Tambanipa Festival in honor of the feast of its patron saint Señor San Nicolas de Tolentino.

Tambanipa is a portmanteau of the abundance of tamban and nipa in the barangay.

Tambanipa Festival 2016 kicked off with Araw ng Bonbon last September 1 via a mass at the covered court and a motorcade after. By evening was the Barangay Night in Hawaiian theme where Zone 4 grabbed first place.

The next day, there was a field demonstration by Bonbon Elementary School and a special presentation by its arnis team followed by the Teachers Night a few

hours later.

On September 3, there was a ballroom dancing followed by Bingo Sosyal on September 4 as well as Mr. PYAP 2016 in the evening on that day where Carl John Betaizar was the declared winner.

There was a Laro ng Lahi on September 5 followed by a hiphop dance contest in the evening in which HD Crew became the champions.

September 6 was the skim boarding competition which awed residents and visitors alike. The evening was marked with the Tambanipa Festival Attire and Fashion Show.

There was also a boat race, billiard tournament and boxing on the seventh day of the week-long festival.

TO raise awareness among the youth, the Licean Corps Diplomatique organized a three-day awareness seminar series on what it dubbed as Challenges in the Modern Society.

During the first day of the symposium last Tuesday at Liceo AVR 3, there was a lectureon HIV/AIDS conducted by Marvin Ted Membreve of the City Health Office. It’s not just International Studies of Liceo de Cagayan University who were the target audience for this particular forum.

Some students from other colleges within the campus also attended and senior high school students from the institution were there as well.

During the second day, Hazards on Social Media was tackled by cyberlaw expert Atty. Noel Ramiscal. And on the last day, a talk on Discrimination and Gender Equality was given by another lawyer, Atty.

Sam Tan. This particular talk attempted to bridge between gender and specific thematic areas such as work, education, political participation, emergencies, peace

and security and sexual and reproductive health.

Last month, the Licean Corps Diplomatique led by its president Sarah Bermiso also organized a seminar on

Export Products & Policies: Northern Mindanao Trading for Globalized Community with a resource speaker from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

AirAsia gifts free flight to Asean Olympic medallists at gala event BANGKOK, 8 September 2016 - AirAsia today gave away free flights to all Asean Olympic medallists at a gala event held in the JW Marriot Hotel in Bangkok.

Also in attendance were AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes, AirAsia country CEOs, Thailand’s Vice Minister for Tourism and Sports, Associate Professor Chavanee Tongroach as well as government and sports officials from each Asean country with a podium finisher.

Duterte: ASEAN must support MSME development Shares PH economic focus towards inclusive growth Lao PDR—Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte declared that the Philippines’ economic thrust for inclusive growth will focus on innovating micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) development, e-commerce, youth and women entrepreneurship, as he served as one of the speakers in the 13th ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) held on 6 September in Vientiane.

The President believes that in order to be a global player, ASEAN must ensure

the effective implementation of key economic agreements and the integration of existing sub-regional cooperation frameworks in ASEAN such as the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), the Indonesia-MalaysiaThailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and the BruneiIndonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

“Hailing from Mindanao, I commit to promote BIMP-EAGA. We intend to open up our other major islands like Mindanao and

the Visayas with high quality backbone infrastructure,” he said, adding that the Philippines will accelerate infrastructure spending by improving national roads and bridges.

MINIMUM STANDARDS Section 3 of the ordinance requires person engaged or intending to engage in the retailing of liquid petroleum products to comply with minimum standards.

It provides that the retailing of liquid petroleum products shall be conducted in duly approved

premises with an initial minimum lot area of 100 square meters and where vehicles being serviced shall at all times be inside the duly approved business premises and shall only be carried out through fixed and permanent dispensing pumps duly approved by the city government and Department of Energ y (DOE).

The owner and/or operator of the retail outlet must possess valid permits, licenses and certification for the retailing, storage, handling, transfer and/ or dispensing of liquid petroleum products from

the City Mayor’s Office.

The construction and operation of the retail outlet must also comply with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and city ordinances or face penalties.

TASK FORCE The ordinance a ls o creates Task Force BoteBote, composed of the city treasurer as the head, city police director as the vice head, city fire marshal, Association of Barangay Council president or representative, Roads and Traffic Administration head, City Equipment Depot manager, city legal officer,

five personnel from the City Treasurer’s Office duly designated by the city treasurer, three police officers duly designated by the city police director, five RTA personnel, three Equipment Depot personnel and punong barangay of barangays where there are bote-bote operators as ex-officio members.

The duties of the task force is to recommend the issuance of executive order to the city mayor, if necessary, to intensify and strengthen the implementation of the ordinance or other related laws and may propose any amend-

ments and inspect, plan and monitor the entire area of the city to determine that no illegal retailing of petroleum products is existing.

The task force shall confiscate all stocks of liquid petroleum products found in the vicinity, which are subject of illegal retailing and vending.

PENALTY Section 7 of the BoteBote ordinance provides that persons that peddle, vend, retail and sell in violation and those who do not comply with provisions, in addition to the confiscation of the liquid

law and the socio-economic programs of a country.”

Speaking before members of the ASEAN Business Advisor y Council (ABAC), which gathers leading CEOs, heads of chambers and commerce and industry and business organizations from ASEAN Member States (AMS), the President emphasized that sensibly-crafted and well-implemented laws are imperative towards bringing good governance and order, as well as providing an enabling environment for the country’s progress and prosperity.

Outstanding Partner for Sources of Information for the Report on Regional Economic Developments will be given to the agency or institution that provided the BSP with information support for an effective environment scan of Region VIII. The Outstanding Partner for Financial Learning Campaign will be given to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) regional office that has supported the BSP’s financial learning campaigns for overseas Filipinos and their beneficiaries in Region VIII. Meanwhile, the Outstanding Regional Partner for Currency Programs will be given to the agency or institution that supported the BSP’s currency programs and advocacies in Region VIII such as the Clean Note Policy and Demonetization of the New Design Series.
