Gina Lopez to grace Rotary event • Rotary Club of West CDO’s 48th Handover and Induction Ceremony; • Inner Wheel Club of West CDO highlighting projects and accomplishments By Clifford and Tai Jean Roa

The Rotary Club of West C agayan de Oro (RCWESTCDO), one of the premier clubs of Rotary International District 3870 sets today, June 30, 2017 its joint 48th Handover and Induction Ceremony with the Inner Wheel Club of West CDO, Rotaract Club of West CDO and Rotary Club of West Foundation at the 7th Floor of Platinum Ballroom, Mallberry Suites Business Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

Former Secretary of Department of Environment and Natural Resources Ms. Regina “Gina” Paz La’o Lopez is the guest speaker. She headed the drive to get ten million signatures to say there should be no mining in areas of biodiversity. This feat was achieved in 2015. She also led the reforestation of La Mesa Watershed and La Mesa Ecopark. The United Nations in 2010 declared the La Mesa Watershed the gold standard for reforestation in the country. In 2010 she was named chairperson of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission, which led efforts to resurrect the historic river. For her work with Bantay Kalikasan, she received the 1997 International Public Relations Award for Excellence for the Environment and the 2009 Outstanding Manilan Award for the Environment. In 2011, as managing director of the ABS-CBN Foundation. Slated to be the Rotar y Year’s showcasing of achievements and recognition of Rotarians and partners in rotary service, RCWESTCDO led by its outgoing president Erna Maagad and Presidentelect Tina Abalos Hidalgo who personally invited Ms.

Lopez, a staunch supporter for environmental concerns as one of Rotary’s thrust for the incoming Rotary Year focuses on environmental protection. “All of us are part of the family of Rotar y. We have gained so much from our Rotary service. We have made friends, helped our communities and we’ve become truly a part of a network of selfless volunteers in delivering the needs of our fellowmen, especially in the rural areas”, Ms. Maagad said. Her legacy as club president who catered to the community’s needs highlighted by the installation of Sky Hydrant Ultrafiltration Units. “Knowing what are our “Purpose In Life” has really made a difference in this Club because we did reach our maximum potentials for growth and discovered all areas of opportunity where we can Serve, hence, we have our District Grant which is the Skyhydrant Ultrafiltration Units for Barangays Bayanga and Dansolihon. With proper reporting too, we garnered the “Best In Community Project” for District 3870!”, Ms. Maagad, proudly added. “Today is the culmination and celebration of our Rotary Club of West CDO for the Rotar y Year 2016-2017 as Exemplary Club led by our Excellent President Erna G. Maagad. We prepared ourselves for this momentous event, the 48th Handover and Joint Induction Ceremonies for the Rotary Year 2017-2018 as we continue to be the premier Rotary Club, proactive in the delivery of excellent service”, President-Elect Tina Hidalgo shared. The night’s event includes the press conference for Ms. Lopez’s and her entourage. Turnover ceremonies and induction of officers for the Rotary Club of West CDO, Rotary Club of West Founda-

tion and Inner Wheel Club of West CDO. RC W E STC D O b an ne rs the district with its perennial fund-raising cum fellowship event – now on its 17th year – the Oro Open Golf Tournament slated to be held on April 2018. The club also recognizes the top mentor in the region with the Most Outstanding Public School Teacher Award or MOPSTA, by May 2018, would be its 36th year.

With the construction of at least two school buildings in the past years and various material donations in school supplies, comfort rooms, water tanks, chairs, tables, scholarships, books and guidance ser vices, all points to the club’s commitment to sustain, direct and enhance its literacy services to the community. Inner Wheel Club (IWC) banners its projects for the past year includes: Blessing and Turn-over of One Classroom

for SPECIAL CHILDREN of Camaman-an Elementary School, Pre Christmas giftgiving at Dabatian Day Care Center, Carmen, Tree-planting at Calo’s Farm, Turnover of 1 set sound system Camamanan High School, Paglingap with elderly @ St.Joseph Golden Home Foundation, Special Walk and Run for Special Children and distribution of reading eyeglasses to senior citizens in Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City among others.
