Another graft case filed against Moreno Volume VI, No. 109

MAYOR Oscar “Oca” Moreno of Cagayan de Oro City was charged anew with another-graft case before the Sandiganbayan in connection with the alleged anomalous tax settlement with Ajinomoto Philippines. The first was when the Ombudsman filed the graft charges against Moreno and two other city officials involving the payment of a rental for a building being used as “headquarters” of “city boxers” without the authorization from the

Last Wednesday, the Office of the Ombudsman filed the antigraft and corrupt practices against Moreno and acting City Treasurer Glenn Bañez with the Sandiganbayan for unlawfully entering into an agreement with the Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation involving the settlement of the company’s tax liabilities. In filing the charges, the antigraft court found probable cause that Moreno and Bañez violated the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (Republic Act No. 3019) for

entering into a settlement agreement without the approval of the City Council. The Ombudsman found that in 2013, Bañez issued a Notice of Assessment to Ajinomoto covering its 2006 to 2012 tax deficiency of P2.9 million. The anti-graft court said that in 2014, the city entered into a Settlement Agreement with Waiver, Release and Quitclaim, accepting the company’s offer of PHP 300,000 as full settlement of its local business tax deficiency. OSLO, Norway--The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) announced Fidel Agcaoili’s assumption as its new negotiating panel chairperson as long-time chief Luis Jalandoni assumes his new role as senior adviser.
