EARTHQUAKES are a very real threat to Davao Oriental province’s coastal city of Mati and its vicinity, including waters bordering the area. According to experts, local faults can generate earthquakes not only on land but offshore as well. Last Sept. 24, a magnitude 6.5 offshore quake was felt at varying intensities, not only in Mati but as far as Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Sarangani and Agusan del Sur provinces.

CAGAYAN de Oro City-The Department of the Interior and Local Government-10 (DILG-10) will not serve the suspension order for Mayor Oscar Moreno and two other city hall officials if its main office will not issue an advice to proceed. DILG-10 regional director Arnel Agabe said in a memorandum yesterday he has sought the advice of the Court of Appeals (CA) Mindanao Station and the agency’s main office, whether or not to push through with the suspension of Moreno and two of his department heads. “This office has sought, at present, the comments and guidance [from CA and DILG] seeking for an advice and direction on what the proper course of action [DILG-10] has to immediately undertake under the present circumstances,” Agabe said in the memorandum.
