Fortun proposes Sustainable Forest Management measure B

UTUAN CITY – Agusan del Norte First District Representative Lawrence Lemuel Fortun has filed a bill seeking to set a policy direction in the formulation of programs for the protection and sustainable management of Philippine forests. Under House Bill No. 0050, the measure entitled “An Act Providing for the Protection, Rehabilitation, and Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystem and for Other Purposes” or the “Sustainable Forest Management Act”, Fortun said that while our country’s forest belongs to the world’s most diverse with rich source of plant and animal species, it is also

considered one of the most threatened. According to the Butuan City and Agusan del Norte solon, “Our forest covers have been reduced to 18.3 percent in 1999 and is estimated to be shrinking by two percent every year” attributing the loss to commercial and illegal logging, forest conversion, population growth, migration and fuelwood harvesting.

Fortun said, “It is crucial that the country adopt a systematic, coherent and responsive management system to restore the integrity of our forest ecosystem.” For tun emphasize d that his proposed measure “recognizes the Sustainable Forest Ecosystem Management (SFEM) strategy as the principal policy framework for all programs in the forestry sector. Reading is a Good Habit

The statement Reading is a good Habit is a self-obvious truth. Yes, which cannot be denied. Teenager basically a student and the period of his teens is the most formative period. At an early age like in other modern countries, children were already taught reading

by playing alphabet cards and games for familiarization . It shall contribute substantially to enhance their memory. If we trace back the early life of those who mark in life, we shall see that they spent their life fruitfully and reading is one factor of their success. They maybe

poor or may have been away from the seats of culture, yet they must have obtained access to the sources of knowledge, which is largely spent in school using very useful books and other reading materials. To induce good reading habit a reader must feel what is in a book and it calls for a kind cooperation of in which the authorities the teachers and

the parents as well. Good reading habit also stimulates our mental ability, reduce stress, enhance our knowledge and make us better equipped to tackle any challenges in life. Reading is also a vital for learning new languages and helps us improve our reading and writing fluency. It also improves our memory, develop our analytical thinking skills.

Before anything else, developing good study habits, a student should first understand why do they have to study? Learning Education, Experiencing things, acquiring more knowledge, and realizing good attitudes, he or she must learn how to study. Effective study habits according to psychcentral.com is studying smarter can be learned to improve your ability to better retain reading materials, such as books, and other materials the teachers taught them but to develop good study habits, every student must approach it the right attitude, choose the right environment, don’t distractions disturb them, set a realistic schedule, and may employ memory games to make more exciting and learn more. Students grapple with many issues in their lives, and because of all the competing things for their attention but , it is hard to concentrate on studying, then they have to do at least a little studying in order to progress their learning. The key to effective studying is not cramming

or study longer, but studying smarter. Studying smarter is developing good habits. John M. Grohol, Psy.D. shared this 10 highly effective study habits and by learning and adopting these habits will led every student to develop good studying habits. 1. Approach studying matters – People look at studying is a necessary task, not an enjoyment or opportunity to learn, but how you approach something matters almost as much as what you do, being in the right mindset is important in order to study smarter. 2. Good environment where you study is important – find a place where you can concentrate on what you are reading, libraries are establish to have a quiet place to learn. 3. Bring everything you need, nothing you don’t – focus on what you need in studying 4. Outline and rewrite your notes – writing notes works in the frist place it puts information into words and terms you understand.

5. Use memory games or mnemonic devices – are methods for remembering pieces of information using a simple association of common words. It is to remember even this are non sense sentences. 6. Practice by yourself or with friends – As an old age adage, practice makes perfect is true. Practice with yourself by testing yourself with past exams but always remember that it is not the real exam. Or you can practice with friends (small group with the same course) let them ask you questions. 7. Make a schedule you can stick to – Time schedule is too important in studying. Spend 30-60 minutes after class of what you are taught of. It is a lot easier and will allow you to actually learn more of what the teacher had given or assigned to you. 8. Take a break (and rewards) – people always view studying as a chore or task, it is human nature to avoid it, If however you find rewards to help reinforce what you are

doing, you may be pleasantly surprised by the change you may find in your studying attitude over time. 9. Keep healthy and balanced – It is hard to live a balanced life, however if you seek for it the easier every component of your life becomes. 10. Lastly, Know what are your expectations are for – Pay attention in your classes, every thing the teacher teaches you are all important. Don’t forget to learn, studying is an effort to actually lean things, and you will appreciate the opportunity later on. Natural disasters are an increasing phenomena that may have a direct impact on the emotional as well as educational welfare of households and communities. Depending on where we live, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, droughts, etc, are threats to lives, properties, productive assets, and also can have an impact on social indicators such as education. The impact of a natural disaster may also cause inequalities. The poor, who suffer from the aftermath of calamities are helpless when their children refuse to go to school because they are shy they have no clothes

and baon. Pupil development thus, is hampered, aside from suffering shock and emotional trauma. In addition, there are a number of non-poor, or close to be, who are not insured from those risks, and then may fall into poverty as consequence when coping with the shock. The emotional vulnerability of a student to natural disasters is a complex issue. Disasters’ impact on the poor could be losing access to some basic services, such as education, and may even increase child labor and criminal activities. This could be the worst hindrance to

their development. Finances are large dictators of students’ progress. When calamities occur, parents are unable to provide food, adequate shelter or proper utilities at home. They are hungry, tired unable to focus in school, as their basic needs are not met. While, students whose primary needs are fulfilled arrive at school feeling safe and ready to learn, they may also be affected by calamities which rendered their school with no clean classrooms and toilets. They may find such an atmosphere discomforting. Other schools can provide not only safe and well-structured buildings, but also recent textbooks and modern technology. Life experiences shape a

student’s attitude toward education. Student who enjoy exploring and experimenting seek to further their educations. Calamities may also render them illness, and they may miss schooling and fall behind in their development. They will not learn in the same way as other children in the class. Calamities lead to living in poor housing and they may not sleep well, due to over-crowding or noises in evacuation centers, and this will make them tired in school, affecting concentration. Poor housing can affect health. After typhoons, homes become damp and students get breathing problems for example. Then they miss schooling due to poor health.

“Bullying” means systematically and chronically inflicting physical hurt or psychological distress on one or more students or employees. In 2012, House Bill 5496 or the Anti-Bullying Act of 2012, was submitted to Congress. It sought to promote greater awareness of the impact of bullying and how it can be prevented. But before the legislation was passed, the Department of Education (DepEd has adopted Order no. 40 or the Child Protection Policy to ensure special protection of children from abuse and bullying. It was a huge step when President Benigno Aquino III signed Republic Act 10627, or the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, which requires all elementary and secondary schools to adopt policies that will prevent and address bullying in the classroom. The Act was signed last September 12, 2013. It defined bullying as the use of written, verbal or electronic expression, or a physical act or gesture to cause physical or emotional harm by one student to another student. Bullying can also mean the creation of a hostile school environment, infringement of student rights, and "material and substantial" disruption of the school's education process, according to the law. The school is our children's second home. Lawmakers said the school authorities should be proactive and responsive to the law in order to ensure the safety of the students. DepEd finds the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 as a “landmark piece of regulation” as it .enhances the DepEd’s existing Child Protection Policy and allows us to further develop our schools into learner-centered institutions. The law now mandates schools not only to adopt policies addressing the existence of bullying inside the campus, but also to conduct a rehabilitation program for victims of bullying. Schools are now required to set up clear procedures and strategies that will protect students who report on acts of bullying to prevent retaliation. Students may report anonymously, but the school may not take disciplinary action solely on the basis of an anonymous report. Names of students who committed the act of bullying will also be strictly confidential except to persons involved in the case such as school administrators, teachers, and parents. Appropriate sanctions will be made by the Secretary of Education on school

administrators who will fail to comply with the act's implementing rules and regulations. This applies to both public and private schools, wherein private schools' permit to operate may be suspended. Bullying is now the number one non-academic issue that most educators face, and is one of the top concerns of many parents. Defined as an act of repeated aggressive behaviour in order to intentionally hurt another person either emotionally, verbally, or physically, bullying is characterized by an individual behaving in a certain way to gain power over another person. Bullies may behave this way out of jealousy or because they themselves are bullied. When they leave school, they will most likely carry on their bullying in the workplace. A study conducted recently, revealed that most students in high school have experienced various forms of abuse either from their peers or from their teachers. It also defined violence against children as any act that violates children’s rights, particularly their right to physical and mental health, security and bodily integrity. Children‘s perception of violence is focused on acts that hurt them physically or emotionally. This even includes punishment given to them by teachers for misbehaving, like being made to squat, stand in the corner of a room, or stand under the sun (commonly practiced in schools in rural areas). Although the children generally understood that these punishments are a way of disciplining them, the respondents said that they prefer a more positive way like being talked to or counselled by their teachers. They even consider bullying, when being called stupid or other demeaning terms, or being teased by their classmates. The implementation of the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, provides relief for the millions of students who experience bullying in school. It is hoped that the Anti-Bullying law will help schools create a peaceful environment where children can develop their full potentials. It is high time that violence against children especially in schools, considered to be children’s second home and places for learning. must be eradicated.
