at a more convenient time. Nearly a thousand people have enrolled in the course, some of whom have given positive feedback. “This online course is a great opportunity especially for people like us who work and don’t have time to attend some classes due to schedule
conflicts. This really helps me a lot. Just by sitting in front of my laptop for one to two hours, I gain more knowledge,” said Marrian Vedua. The free apps development course is part of the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program or SWEEP. This is a longrunning program aimed at
improving engineering and IT education in the country. Because of SWEEP, Smart was recently cited by international magazine Fortune as one of 50 companies that have “changed the world.” More information on Smart’s corporate social responsibility programs can be found on the Smart Communities Facebook page.
WITH the imposition of a price freeze, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Camiguin enforcement team intensifies price monitoring and enforcement of Fair Trade Laws (FTLS) among business establishments. This is to ensure that the goods covered are sold at prevailing prices and checked on the price and supply situation of goods in various areas in the province. In view of Proclamation No. 55 issued on September 4, 2016 declaring a state of national emergency on account of lawless violence, the DTI Provincial Office has imposed a 60-day Price Freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities. Pursuant to Section 6
of Republic Act No. 7581, The Price Act, as amended, prices of basic necessities are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices or place under automatic price control. DTI Camiguin Provincial Director Joselito S. Enot urged all business establishments to abide to the law and cooperate to avoid penalties. Violators of the price freeze will be summoned by DTI and those found selling above the prevailing prices could face fines of up to P1 million or imprisonment for a maximum of 10 years. (Zita M. RDRRMC activates ‘Oplan Ghostbuster’
CAGAYAN de Oro City - In anticipation of the occurrence of emergency/s, the Northern Mindanao Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) will activate its ‘Oplan Ghostbuster’ and undertake measures to ensure the safety of the public during the All
Saints/Souls Days, especially in high density areas—highways, terminals, ports and cemeteries from October 28 to November 3. Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Director Ana C. Cañeda said during the 6th RDRRMC Technical Working Group (TWG) Meeting, its goal is to bust
all scenarios that can compromise the safety during the observance. This, as the council noted families use these holidays to bond and reconnect with relatives. With this, a great deal of people will be compelled to go home to their respective hometowns.
During the start of the observance the challenge is monitoring the smooth operations of bus terminal and ports as passenger will surge. Hence, Cañeda urges passengers to follow the security protocols implemented during the observance. See oplan, page B7
