CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -The results of the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN) show that Region X hits 4,689,302 as of August 1, 2015, an increase by 391,979 compared to the 4.30 million population in 2010. Among the five provinces comprising the region, Bukidnon recorded the biggest population with 1.42 million followed by Misamis Oriental, excluding Cagayan de Oro City, with 889,000.

STEM workshop for DepEd teachers set ILIGAN CITY -- The College of Education (CED) of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) has been given authority to hold a workshop for in-service Department of Education teachers (DepEd-10) at the college’s amphitheater on October 11-13, 2016. The three-day workshop is for free, and will see CED faculty leading discussions and conduct activities regarding interdisciplinary contextualization for STEM education. IPC teams up with PIA to keep students ‘off the streets and off to school’

IPC (IP Converge Data Services, Inc.), a pioneer in local cloud and data center services, is pleased to announce that it is now a partner of the Philippine International Aid (PIA), a U.S.-based charity that has been providing health and educational assistance to underprivileged youth. One of the PIA’s core initiatives is the “Off the Streets-Off to School” scholarship, a program that helps parents and teachers to keep kids in school. Administered in partnership with the PhilAsia Assistance Foundation, the Off the Streets–Off to School program provides scholarships annually to more than 1,000 children in Metro Manila. Together with their partners, PIA helps students go through elementary and college. The student’s academic progress is monitored throughout the academic year and they are also encouraged to correspond with their respective benefactors. An all-volunteer organization, PIA was established in 1986 to provide assistance to disadvantaged youth in the Philippines and the United States. Their core programs provide educational assistance to more children in the Philippines than any other U.S.-based charity. In 2013, aid was provided to more than 2,400 students. Heading the organization is Mona Lisa Yuchengco, the founder and publisher of PositivelyFilipino.com, an online magazine on the

DTI chief to Ayala Group: help us mentor MSMEs Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez encouraged executives of the Ayala Group of Companies to help the government in elevating the competencies of Filipino micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) during the Ayala Sustainability Summit on 11 October 2016 in Makati. In the dialogue session between the trade chief and the Ayala business group, Sec. Lopez emphasized the need for continuous innovation and entrepreneurial skills and mindset for MSMEs to prosper. The sharing of leadership skills and best practices from the private sector are critical components in enhancing the ability of MSMEs to thrive in a globally-competitive business environment, according to the trade chief. Business sector groups were invited to extend additional support in mentoring and passing on the business know-how to Filipino MSMEs, alongside existing government efforts including establishing Negosyo Centers and conducting training and seminars across the country through SME Roving Academy. The Kapatid Mentor Me is a business advisory program with private sector partners like the Go Negosyo, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and

Industry, the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Philippine Franchise Association, the Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc. and other groups. Sec. Lopez also called on the business group to adopt an inclusive business model, where MSMEs are integrated in the value chain. “The Go Lokal! brand is part of DTI’s MSME push, improving market access by mainstreaming MSME products in major malls,” he said, adding that DTI already started partnering with some of the country’s mall owners. Before we differentiate Teaching as a profession from a job, let us know first “what is teaching?” Teaching is defined as the specialized application of knowledge, skills and attributes designed to provide unique service to meet the educational needs of the individual and of society. The direct interaction between the teacher and the student is the most important element in teaching and learning. Teaching is not only done by teachers to nurture people but also the parents who were the first teachers to nurture their kids and home is their first school. Now it’s time to define the terms, Profession and a Job. Profession is something a little more than a job; it is a career for someone that wants to be part of society, who becomes competent in their chosen sector through training; maintains their skills through continuing professional development and commits to behaving

ethically, to protect the interests of the public. On the other hand, Job is an activity, often regular and often performed in exchange for payment. Even though profession and a job are both being trained and paid by the employer or client, they both have difference. Teaching as a Job simply means that working as a teacher is done for the sake of earning money or for a living which is driven by the needs and poverty. While teaching as a Profession means that it is a career driven by passion or loving what you are doing whether you are paid or not.
