PHP52.2 billion in the first nine months driven by the sustained growth of its key business units – rental operations and real estate sales. “SM Prime sustained its overall performance as it benefited from the continued growth of the economy. The synergy and contribution of our business units are reflected in our strong results. We expect SM Prime’s success to continue over the medium-term as economic growth spread to the rest of the Philippines, which should bode well with our expansion in other key cities and provinces,” SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim said.

Do not be proud that you are better The Gospel of Jesus Christ (November8, 2016-Tuesday) Luke 18:9-14”And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and was praying
this to himself: `God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. `I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ “But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, `God, be merciful to me, the sinner!
The Tax collector was a traitor and public sinner in the time of Jesus. They were condemned by the people of Israel for serving the Roman Empire. But for Jesus, they need to be loved and understood because they were just victims of the times. Let us imitate Jesus in his response to the notorious sinners in his surroundings. Take note, sinner is crying for
help. They need somebody to help him escape from his situation in life. Do not mocked and judged them because it only adds wounds in their lives. Pray to God for their forgiveness and enlightenment. Do not be proud that you are better than them because God opposed those who are full of pride. 1 Peter 5:5”You younger men, likewise, be subject to
The Importance of Teaching Comtemporary Philippine Arts to Senior High School Students under RA 10533 otherwise known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (DepEd Order No. 43 s. 2013) wherein it states that “The curriculum shall be contextualized and global; and The curriculum shall be flexible enough to enable and allow schools to localize, indigenize, and enhance the same based on their respective educational and social contexts.“ In addition to that, the DepEd mission states that “To protect and promote the right of every Filipino to quality, equitable, culture based and complete education. . .” Thus, Philippine education is culture based and instructions and materials therefore should
be localized and contextualized. Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions is the core subject title. This subject covers various contemporary art practices of the region where the school is located. Most of our youth today adore the international artists. They don’t even have any idea about the Filipino artists nor the famous artwork originated in their own locality. Thus, having this subject to our senior high school students is timely and relevant. Basically, the subject’s content standard is more on students’ appreciation and understanding of the significant roles of the artists from the regions. Aside from knowing the
roles of the artists from their region, students will also have the opportunity to discover the available materials and resources found in their own locality. They are required to present a form of integrated contemporary art based on the region of their choice. It could be literary, music composition, theatrical performance or choreography. Aside from this, senior high school students are also required to design a production using available materials in their own locality. For with this subject, our youth will not only appreciate arts but will also understand the culture (local) better and proud as well that they belong to such region.
Prime will have a combined GFA of almost 9 million sqm. SM Prime’s residential group, led by SM Development Corporation (SMDC), contributed 32% to consolidated revenues and grew by 10% to PHP18.7 billion from PHP16.9 billion in the same period under review. Operating income, likewise grew by 10% to PHP5.1 billion from PHP4.6 billion. The growth was largely due to the sales take-up on ready for occupancy (RFO) units from projects such as Princeton Residences, M Place Residences, Mezza II Residences and Jazz Residences in the cities of Quezon and Makati. Consolidated costs of real estate increased by 8% to PHP9.6 billion from PHP9.0 billion resulting to improved gross profit margins of 48% from 46% for the residential group; while net income margin stood at 23% from 22% in the same period last year. SMDC’s reservation sales jumped by 22% growth in sales value to PHP35.5 billion in the first nine months of the year from PHP29.1 billion last year. This is equivalent to a 20% increase in unit sales to 12,579 units from 10,520 units. The strong sales take-up is attributed to projects that are within and near the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, namely S Residences, Shore 2 Residences and Coast Residences. To date, SM Prime has launched three new projects
and expanded its existing developments equivalent to 6,000 units in the cities of Las Pinas, Pasay and Taguig. SM Prime is set to launch new and expanded housing projects in the cities of Quezon, Pasay, and Tagaytay. The launch also includes economic housing projects in the provinces of Bulacan. The Commercial Properties Group, which accounted for 3% of consolidated revenues, posted a growth of 44% in revenues to PHP1.9 billion from PHP1.3 billion year-on-year. This led to rising operating income of PHP1.4 billion from PHP700 million, which in turn enhanced the operating income margin to 75% from 56%. The growth came from the new rental revenues of FiveE-com Center. SM Prime’s Commercial Properties Group presently has six office buildings mostly at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City with an estimated GFA of 371,000 sqm. The company will add more office spaces in the coming years as ThreeE-Com and FourE-Com Centers are currently under construction. The Hotels and Convention Centers revenues are up by 23% to PHP2.1 billion from PHP1.7 billion on the first nine months of the year. Operating income grew by 6% to PHP330.0 million from PHP312.0 million. Revenues are buoyed by the improvement in average room and occupancy rates. The opening of Park Inn in
Clark, last December, and Conrad Manila in Pasay City, last June, also boosted the overall performance of the hotel group. SM Prime remains committed to its role as a catalyst for economic growth, delivering innovative and sustainable lifestyle cities, thereby enriching the quality of life of millions of people.

Students from elementary to secondary take the subject Arts along with Physical Education, Music and Health. For a decade, students study Arts—in all forms. Now, senior high school has a core subject—Comtemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions. What is the relevance of this subject to the senior high school students? How does this art differ from the arts taken by the students in the previous years? Two of the important features of the K to 12 curriculum are the contextualization and localization. These features are mandated by DepEd

Philippine overall mall revenues increased by 9% to PHP32.1 billion from PHP29.4 billion. Rentals posted an 11% growth to PHP26.9 billion from PHP 24.2 billion. This was driven by a 7% growth in samemall-sales, as well as new retail spaces of 1 million square meters (sqm) in gross floor area (GFA) that were added in the past two years. Cinema and event ticket sales are at PHP3.44 billion, slightly higher from last year’s performance of PHP3.4 billion. Revenues generated from amusements and merchandise sales posted the same amount of PHP1.8 billon from same period last year. Philippine destinations last year. For those who prefer to travel using the nautical highway, Smart Wifi was also installed in the sea ports of Batangas City and Calapan in Mindoro, which recorded a combined passenger traffic of close to 11 million, according to 2015 data from the Philippine Ports Authority. Given the reliance of today’s travelers on mobile apps for information and services to make their trips enjoyable and productive, this state-of-the-art communications infrastructure will help boost the country’s
tourism industry. A backhaul capacity of up to 1 gigabit per second allows up to 3,000 concurrent users of Smart Wifi to have a seamless digital experience in checking their social media accounts, email, or keeping connected to home and office while traveling. “We have deployed carrier-grade Smart Wifi as part of our commitment to have more Filipinos experience super-speed internet on a larger scale. This will enable the public to optimize use of their smartphones and other devices, and at the same time, help us monetize data services in line with the company’s shift from a traditional telco player to a digital services provider,” said Eric R. Alberto, EVP for PLDT/Smart, and president and CEO, ePLDT. “The rollout of Smart Wifi is a key component of Smart’s three-year network improvement program to boost data connectivity throughout the country. This complements our mobile internet service that we are boosting through the deployment of enhanced LTE and 3G coverage nationwide,” said Kat LunaAbelarde, FVP and Wireless Consumer Operations Head See wifi, page B6

Vitarich Philippines - Mindanao’s Most Outstanding Agri-business Leader Founded in 1950 by the Sarmiento brothers - Feliciano, Lorenzo and Pablo - Vitarich underwent phenomenal expansion until it grew to become one of the Philippines' leading integrators. Today, we operate a number of production facilities throughout the country, including feed mills, hatcheries and dressing plants. Vitarich Corp-Mindanao is now constructing a new poultry feed mill plant in Panacan. “We are growing by 10 to 15 percent here, we can say that our expansion now is focused in Mindanao, especially for poultry and aquatic products as we can see business is growing. We have our biggest population of chicken growing here in Mindanao,” Stephanie Nicole Sarmiento-Garcia, Vitarich treasurer and chief finance officer, said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao at the sidelines of the groundbreaking ceremony of its new poultry feed mill in Panacan last June 8. The expansion included the new Halal-certified poultry feed mill plant in Panacan and the aqua mill plant in Bunawan. These expansions, Garcia said is entirely to support and meet the demand of the growing economy, population and buyers in Mindanao particularly Davao City. “There are actually a lot of people to feed here in Mindanao, we just have to align ourselves to the way the diversity of Mindanao is. We see a bright future not only with Davao but the whole of Mindanao,” she said. One of the company’s big project now is its P250-million poultry feed mill within the four-hectare compound of Vitarich in Panacan. The facility, once constructed is seen as the pioneer poultry feed mill with Halal certification and standards. The feed mill is targeted to be operational by the third quarter of 2017. “We cannot just supply chicken to the market, we have to take into consideration that we have to supply it within the standards of our Muslim brothers and sisters, that is why we build this specialized feed mill,” Garcia said. The new poultry feed mill plant has a capacity of 10 tons per hour. The project is in collaboration with Davao South Feedmill Corp. “This is to enable Vitarich Mindanao operations have the additional capacity particularly in the production of broiler feeds,” Edilberto Manuel, Feedmill manager for Visayas-Mindanao operations, for his part, said. She also said that it is the demand for chicken and even fish that also prompted them to expand more as everybody eats chicken, fish regardless of what religious inclinations. Apart from the Halal-certified poultry feed mill, Vitarich is also set to launch its newest aqua mill in Bunawan this July.
Vision Mission
The Sarmiento brothers Feliciano, Lorenzo and Pablo
Garcia shared that big factor of its aggressive expansion here in Mindanao is the hopes given by the incoming administration to be led by President-elect Rodrigo Duterte as he promised a lot for the agriculture sector in the country. “With his promises on supporting agribusiness, we are more encouraged to invest, before we do not want to invest so much because of the risk of smuggling, lack of government support, but with the incoming president, our worries are taken off already,” she said. She added that the best way to grow the agribusiness industry is to invest in hard assets as not much agribusiness firms in the stock market, as the nature of the business id risky. But she was quick to add that investors now will move to a different direction as light is seen on sight in businesses which are centered on agri-produce.
