CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) awarded outstanding partners in Cagayan de Oro for their efforts in promoting the advocacy of the BSP particularly the Project BRO. The awarding ceremony was held on November 22, during the Cagayan de Oro leg of the Financial Empowerment Sessions of the Financial Consumer Protection Department (FCPD) of the BSP. ILIGAN CITY — Six business establishments, which partnered with government in advancing consumer welfare, were conferred Bagwis Awards — four silver and two bronze, all from Iligan City and Lanao del Norte (LDN). The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Region 10, has given the awardees due recognition during the awarding ceremony in Mallberry Suites in Cagayan de Oro, recently, with each awardee receiving a plaque showing a wing with stretched feathers, depicting readiness to fly in competitive market and provide a higher quality service. In recognition of business establishments welfare in Iligan City and in Lanao del Norte, DTI handed over the Bagwis Awards to the following six business establishments under the auspices of DTI Lanao del Norte/Iligan City Provincial
Office, along with 20 firms from the other cities and municipalities of Region 10. The silver awardees were Crown Paper & Stationeries Supply, with business on office and school supplies; and S-Bros Grocers Corporation, on general merchandise business. All are from Iligan City. CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The new Baloi-Kauswagan-Aurora 230KV line project of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is seen to strengthen delivery of power throughout Western Mindanao. Emmanuel D. Abellanosa, head of Mindanao Operations and Maintenance of NGCP said that load in Mindanao is increasing since demand is also increasing. We have new coal power plants in Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte. Specifically, the GN power plant in Lanao del Norte, once up and running will be connected through this line, he said. Right now, transmission lines are at 138KV built in the 70s. According to Abel-
lanosa, NGCP horizon is five years and above, that is why this 230KV line will meet even the future power requirement of the island. However, NGCP also discussed right of way (ROW) issues of its transmission lines. During NGCP’s project presentation on 17 November in its regional office in Iligan City together with Iligan City based media and CDO Energy Press Corps, Abellanosa said that some of the blackouts are caused by right of way issues such as intentionally planting of trees or houses underneath the transmission lines. implement LeadCom. LeadCom—which targets the youth from Kauswagan and Linamon, Lanao del Norte is a 10-month leadership program. Charter amendments needed to boost investment flexibility and income -- SSS The Social Security System (SSS) is pushing for changes in its charter, which was enacted nearly two decades ago, that would provide the pension fund greater investment flexibility to bolster its generation of needed revenues for granting higher benefits for members. Social Security Commission’s (SSC) Chairman Dean Amado D. Valdez said that SSS investment capabilities based on the provisions under the Social Security Act of 1997 are limited amid current market trends. “Aside from expanding our investment portfolio, we seek the amendment of the conservative provisions of the SSS charter particularly on the investing capacities of the Commission,” he said. The SSS charter limits the powers of the Commission to invest its reserve fund. At present, SSS could only invest in private securi-

More than that, a teacher is a living book that inculcates children values that is more important than any lesson in school. Teacher must be a kind person who is composed with attitude that she is trying to equip her students with. In short, she should be a role model to her students. As what a famous maxim says, “You cannot
give what you don’t have.” Similar to this, a teacher cannot expect children to behave the way she wanted them to do, if she do not exercise as such. Another thing that a teacher could train students with is on the proper way in expressing ideas; for this is one venue where a person’s characteristic is tested. From Punta Gorda, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, the apprehended vessel was escorted by FLEQRT members to Kimaya, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental Fish Port for custody and safekeeping. Documentary preparations were done for filing of appropriate charges.

Divina Salve A. Labitad, bank officer of the BSPFCPD, said Project BRO (BSP Reaches Out) is a savings campaign for kids and teens to promote the habit of saving early. Labitad noted that those who began saving during their childhood will display better attitudes towards savings than those who did not. Project BRO was developed for Grade 1 to 10 students from both public and private schools across the country to teach kids about money matters early in life. It was launched by BSP in July 2015 and has reached 40 schools and more than 70,000 students. In Cagayan de Oro City, Project BRO team has visited East City Central School, Cagayan de Oro National High School, Xavier University Grade School and High School to guide and motivate Cagayanon kids and teens develop good financial habit. One successful payment scheme NGCP implemented was the Kaliwaan Scheme Payment Batch 1. The objective for this scheme payment was to pay the ROW claimants along Baloi-Agus 2 138KV transmission line for the May 9 elections this year. Since Baloi-Agus2 was isolated, after the Kaliwaan payment scheme, this transmission line was energized and synchronized to the Grid on 3 May this year. Since its success, NGCP will hold batch 2 of Kaliwaan scheme payment. However, Abellanosa clarified that this is only a short term answer to this problem. NGCP is hoping and seeking help to push for the lobby of the Anti-Disturbance Power Bill which is now in Congress. This law if approved will criminalize acts such as intentionally planting of trees or building houses under transmission lines. This will mean that anyone who will do this act shall be penalized or put in prison. This new 230 KV Line is a first in Mindanao according to Luisito Cruz, Engineer, Mindanao projects Division of NGCP. This will serve as Mindanao backbone once grid from Visayas will be connected to Mindanao. If there is low supply in Mindanao, power from Visayas can be tapped and vice versa. (JMOR/PIA10)
