CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - More than 50 companies in Northern Mindanao and the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) intend to partner with the government’s new vocational training program. The Technical Education, Skills and Development Authority (TESDA), here, said that the companies had expressed support to the “Barangay Kasanayan Para sa Kabuhayan” (Village Skills Training for Liveli-

hood). The village level skills training for livelihood was TESDA program under the Tech-Voc Educational Institutions (TVEIs) in partnership with companies and educational institutions. The academia, however, expressed concern since it would entail an addition 13 percent cost on the part of the school that would bring the TVEI program to the village level. “Not so fast on the

planned barangay-based vocational training,” Dr. Irene L. Floro, chair of the influential association of TVEIs in Mindanao, said. During a consultation with the business sector last week, Floro admitted that some TVEIs lack the equipment they need to be at par with the demands of the industry both here and abroad. In response, the TESDA presented 13 program See support, page B2
