BUSECO chooses Hedcor’s renewable energy

Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative Inc. (BUSECO) chose AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor to supply 5 megawatts to its franchise area in 2017.

BUSECO and Hedcor signed an energy supply agreement on Nov. 10 at the Mallberry Suites in Cagayan de Oro City. BUSECO Gen-

eral Manager Deiter Hoff Arellano represented the electric cooperative while Rolando Pacquiao, Hedcor VP for Operations in Mindanao, represented the power generation company.

Modern nanays step up drive on breastfeeding

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Aimed to teach mothers and pregnant women on establishing good milk supply, breastfeeding positions and getting babies to latch on, the Modern Nanays of Mindanao (MNM) conducts a breastfeeding class and breast milk drive through the Nanay Meet Up on November 14.

Mothers are urged to frequently breastfeed their babies especially during growth spurts in order to establish milk supply. Babies should also be properly latched and positioned to maximize the benefits of breastfeeding both by the baby and the mother.

Nadine Casiño, founder of the MNM, also discourages the use of pacifiers and bottles.

Hedcor is set to finish its 68.8MW Manolo Fortich hydropower project by the second quarter of 2017, which will provide additional power to the Mindanao grid. The US$280.4million project will be the latest addition to Aboitiz Power Corporation’s growing portfolio of renewable energy in the country under the Cleanergy brand.

BUSECO is the sixth electric cooperative to pick Hedcor’s renewable energy in Mindanao. Hedcor was also the power generator of choice of Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperatives 1 and 2, Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, Misamis Occidental I Electric Cooperative and Siargao Electric Cooperative.

How to make healthy eating automatic

PRACTICE listening to natural hunger and satiety cues. Weight gain happens when mindless eating consistently numbs us to the signals of fullness that are supposed to limit meal size. Heeding these signals can be challenging though but I believe

it is worth it. In a modern food environment where portion sizes, social norms and availability of food, we tend to overeat. The trick is to modify your environment – and your thinking – so that it becomes easier to stop eating when you’re full.

Finishing every morsel of foods on your plate even if you’re full doesn’t fix the problem of food waste. Food is just as wasted if it’s eaten by someone who’s not hungry as if it’s thrown away.

Keeping second helpings in the kitchen rather than on the table will help too.

The point of this isn’t to forbid second helpings but to avoid mindlessly eating

more than you really want.

Using smaller plates and smaller glasses for serving food and drink will help too.

Put leftovers in the freezer when meals are over. Freezing can make you stop and think about whether you’re really hungry. Well there are lots more ways on how to make healthy eating automatic. Just keep an open mind.

Monetary Board Keeps Monetary Policy Settings Unchanged At its meeting today, the Monetary Board decided to maintain the interest rate on the BSP’s overnight reverse repurchase (RRP) facility at 3.0 percent. The corresponding interest rates on the overnight lending and deposit facilities were also kept steady. The reserve requirement ratios were likewise left unchanged.

The Monetary Board’s decision is based on its assessment that inflation continues to be manageable, with a gradual return to the inflation target range expected over the policy horizon. While latest forecasts indicate that average inflation is likely to settle slightly below the lower edge of the 3.0 percent ± 1.0 percentage point target range in 2016, it is projected to rise

toward the mid¬point of the target range in 2017 and 2018. The overall balance of risks surrounding the inflation outlook remains tilted to the upside owing largely to the pending petitions for adjustments in electricity rates along with the proposed tax policy reform program.

Slower global economic activity continues to be a key downside risk. Meanwhile, inflation expectations remain broadly consistent with the inflation target over the policy horizon.

At the same time, the Monetary Board also observed that prospects for global economic growth remain modest and uneven since the previous meeting.

Moreover, monetary policies in major advanced economies

continue to be asynchronous and the prospects uncertain.

On the other hand, domestic economic activity is seen to remain firm, supported by solid private household consumption and investment, buoyant business and consumer sentiment, and adequate credit and domestic liquidity. Higher fiscal spending is also expected to further boost domestic demand in the near term.

On balance, the assessment of recent new information continues to support keeping monetary policy settings unchanged. Going forward, the BSP will continue to monitor emerging price and output conditions to ensure price and financial stability conducive to sustained economic growth.
