Incumbent brgy officials to serve until 2017 polls THE term of office of incumbent barangay officials will be extended under R.A. 10923 or An Act Postponing the October 2016 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Based on Section 3 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A. 10923 released by the Commission on Elections on November 8, 2016 through Comelec Resolution No. 10168, incumbent barangay officials will remain in office on a hold-over capacity until their successors are duly elected and qualified, unless sooner removed or suspended for cause. The term of office of barangay and SK officials who will be elected during the October 2017 elections will begin at noon of November 30, 2017.

The bill postponing the polls to October 23, 2017 was signed into law on October 15, 2016. Subsequent Residents fill up voters’ registration forms at the Commission on Elections office on Wednesday, November 9.

Executive Order No. 2, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on July 23, is a response to the call for transparency and full public disclosure of information.??

Under the EO, citizens’ right to file requests to access information will start one hundred twenty (120) days after the its publication.??

The FOI is a government mechanism which allows Filipino citizens to request any information about the government transactions and operations, provided that it shall not put into jeopardy privacy and matters of national security.??

MAKATI CITY - The awards ceremony for recent Journalism Awards for Sustainable Construction (JASCOR) tendered by Holcim Philippines and Philippine Press Institute (PPI) ended with a big bang of success. The event was made more glittering and exciting with the dynamic musical renditions of Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and his singers.

Philippine Daily Inquirer for the national newspaper category, and five community papers: Baguio Chronicle, Mindanao Observer, Sun. Star Cebu, and The Freeman, were adjudged earlier as finalists.

The October 22 awarding ceremony showed the winners as Yolanda Sotelo of Philippine Daily Inquirer Climate for her article Change Revives ‘Natural Building’ of Houses; and Lina Sagaral Reyes, with reports from ReyGarcia in her article, A Brave New School Without Walls, for the community newspaper category. The two winners each received a cash prize of P50,000 and a trophy.

The other finalists receive a consolation prize of P10,000 each.

JASCOR is the first and only one of its kind in the Philippines.

The awards ceremony was held November 10, 2016 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, this City.

For this year’s awards, JASCOR’s boards of screeners and judges evaluated stories published from August 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016.

The Inquirer received the Merit Award for Sustainable Construction Reporting and a cash prize of P75,000 for having the most number of finalists this year, sweeping the national newspaper category.

About JASCOR The Holcim PhilippinesPhilippine Press Institute (PPI) Journalism Awards for Sustainable Construction aims to recognize stories from the print

media that help the public better understand, appreciate and support sustainable construction as defined by the LafargeHolcim Foundation.

The LafargeHolcim Foundation defines sustainable construction as “building in a way that is socially, economically, environmentally, functionally and aesthetically balanced to meet today’s needs and to conserve resources for future generations.”

The contest aims to recognize stories that excellently discuss how the construction industry is contributing or may better contribute towards achieving inclusive growth and sustainability. Stories may discuss current policies, projects and initiatives that cover the construction sector and its impact on communities.
