3 firms cancel conferences in CDO CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The “City of Golden Friendship” is now feeling the crunch as three companies have cancelled plans to hold conferences here in the wake of the July 26 bombing at the LimKetKai Rosario Arcade that killed eight persons and injured 48 others. Anxious officials from the Department of Tourism in Region 10 are closely monitoring whether more groups or corporations are cancelling plans to hold their conferences or conventions in the coming days. August is the fiesta month of Cagayan de Oro in honor of St. Augustine’s feast day on August 28. A number of activities have been lined up for the entire month. Lagbas’burial is set on August 2 The burial of the late Misamis Oriental Board Member Roldan Lagbas is scheduled today, a Friday, at the Oro Garden Memorial Park in Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City. A mass at 9:00 a.m. would be heard at the Oro Garden before the burial. The casket of the late provincial board member was transported from his hometown in Sugbongcogon, Misamis Oriental to the
Provincial Capitol building at about 10 a.m. Thursday for the final wake. Supporters from various municipal towns in Misamis Oriental flocked to the provincial capitol building Thursday night where a mass was heard in honor of the fallen leader. Provincial Governor Bambi Emano led the necrological rites together with other elected provincial
officials. From the provincial capitol building, Lagbas’ casket would be drawn by a funeral carriage about 8:00 a.m. Friday to his final resting place at Oro Garden Memorial Park where he would be buried beside the graveyard of his father,the late Congressman Danilo Lagbas, of First Congressional District of Misamis Oriental. Who’s the richest in RP? Taipan Henry Sy, remains the Philippines’ richest man for the sixth year in a row, the Forbes magazine reported. In its August issue, the magazine estimated the mall tycoon’s net worth at $12 billion. The Forbes said that the Philippines’ 50 richest were worth a combined total of $65.8 billion, or a quarter of the nation’s gross domestic product (GNP). Forbes also said a “soaring economy” boosted the holdings of the richest in the country. Sy’s net worth increased by $2.9 billion from last year.
