Duterte warns erring barkers
DAVAO C it y – – May or Rodrigo R. Duterte has issued a warning to passenger jeepney barkers from extorting drivers. At his weekly “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” television program Sunday, Duterte threatened to stop barkers from their activities if he hears another complaint from a passenger or aggrieved driver. Duterte made the comment after hearing reports that there were barkers demanding fixed amounts from drivers simply for lining up at a mall to look for passengers. See warns, page A11

DOST-12 seeks accreditation of halal laboratory
GENERAL Santos City––In a bid to expand the market of local halal exports, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Region 12 has sought for the accreditation of its halal laboratory with a Turkey-based body. Dr. Zenaida Hadji Raof-Laidan, DOST Region 12 director, said they have filed an application with the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TURKAK) in Ankara, Turkey for the accreditation the agency-run Philippine National Halal Laboratory in Cotabato City. She said the laboratory has so far complied with the accreditation requirements set by TURKAK in terms of its halal testing parameters and services. See halal, page A11
