Taiwan eyes stronger relations with PH

DAVAO C it y - - Tai w an wanted to forge stronger cooperation with the Philippines in various fields under incoming President Rodrigo Duterte, a Taiwanese envoy said Tuesday. “I believe in Duterte leadership (that) your new administration will further continue to enhance and expand our cooperative and friendly relationship,” Gary Song-Huann Lin, who met with Duterte last Monday at the Malacañang of the South, told reporters on Tuesday in Davao. He said the Philippines and Taiwan are “longtime friends” but he is hoping to strengthen their relationship in agriculture, aquaculture, education and other areas. CAGAYAN de Oro City-International communities have sent a message of appreciation to education officials in Northern Mindanao for the implementation of the “K to 12” program in the region. Dr. Allan Farnazo, DepEd Regional Director, issued the statement Wednesday amid criticism by various sectors about the government’s K to 12 program allegedly being an added burden to the poor. Farnazo said that students and teachers from Australia, South Korea,

Japan, and elsewhere in Europe sent congratulatory messages to officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) for implementing the K to 12 program in the region. “ T h e i nt e r n at i on a l community is thankful for the Philippine government’s compliance with international standard of education,” Farnazo said. Fresh fighting erupts anew in Mis. Oriental By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor

MISAMIS Oriental -- Fresh fighting between the government troopers and the communist New People’s Army (NPA) erupted Thursday morning in the mountain village of Talisayan, east of Misamis Oriental. A radio report monitored from here said that the firefight is still on-going Thursday morning in the hinterlands of Macopa, a mountain village of Talisayan, a coastal town 98 kilometers northeast of Cagayan De Oro City.

There was still no report of casualties in the Talisayan encounter, but the army’s 58 th Infantry Battalion confirmed that the government troopers who were on patrol encountered a group of about 10 armed men in the area Thursday morning. Lt. Janielle Diaz, the spokesperson of the 58IB, said that the security and clearing operations are still ongoing in Talisayan. The skirmishes occurred as a group of evacuees from the war torn villages of Kamansi and Banglay in the town of Lagonglong,
