Mayor, bodyguards arrest three suspected kidnappers

CAR AWARDS GROUP, INC. (CAGI) COMPLETES SUCCESSFUL FIRST TESTFEST AT FONTANA

The Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) successfully completed the first test day for the search of the 2015 Car of the Year Philippines and Truck of the Year - Philippines.

Held last Saturday, October 10, 2015, the Fontana Convention Center served as the staging area for the qualitative testing, as well as part of the technical testing. A total of 15 vehicles joined the first day of trials, and were driven by CAGI jurors around a predetermined route, inside the Clark Freeport Zone.

The list of vehicles processed included five pickups contesting in the Truck of the Year Philippines (TOTY-PH), namely, four variants of the all-new Strada from Mitsubishi and a Tata Xenon XT 4x2. As for the Car of the Year Philippines (COTY-PH), Toyota’s entries were

the Alphard and the new Avanza. Honda entered the 1.8 EL CVT and 1.8 E CVT variants of the HR-V compact crossover, the Mobilio 1.5 V CVT and 1.5 RS Navi CVT variants, and the Odyssey EX-V Navi luxury MPV. Volvo brought the updated S60 D4 and

Political education by politicians SO far, people in a country have been publicly exposed to the various attitudes of the politicians. Nobody can learn about politics, except the university students who intentionally study in the social and political department. Theoretically, these lucky students can internalize the political theories and the concept as well. In practice, they can just learn from the real arena in their environment.

Unlike the university students, the people in general cannot get the knowledge about theories of politics.

They have just learned politics from the model of the real politicians in their country. At least, the people can discuss a hot topic in their environment. They can talk about their ideal leader whose attitude expressing the political attitude.

Again, people in general are indirectly taught by their environment with their political leaders’ attitudes.

When compared to university students, people in general can only learn about politics through their natures. They do not know why a certain politician has a certain strategy in the political endeavor. Especially for the real participants or disciples of a certain political party, they have also internalized the politics in practice. In this condition, the attitude of the political leaders can affect their knowledge about the concept of politics.

The danger of the above condition is the fanatics.

All the fanatics of a bad attitude demonstrated by their ideal politicians may lead to the people in general into a bad attitude for the whole nation. For example, when a politician in a certain political party has become their ideal one, he can be a model. When demonstrating a bad model, their people as the fanatics can also behave the same. That is the indirect political education of the politicians.

The more the politicians in political party deviate from the norms, the more the people are dragged into jeopardy. Whatever ways are taken for getting the success will color the mind of the people. In this case, the people have been dragged into bad manner as exhibited by their “ideal” political leader. There are no ethics. There are no good norms. There is no goodvalue-compromise. Money politics will be the worst in the nation. In this context, the nation will never improve their existence as human beings created by the Creator of the universe.

They are just the slave to the property. They are the slaves to money.

Now that the nation needs democracy, it is imperative that they know the danger of the factors degrading their condition. There are fourteen factors, but only three factors ranking in the top three. They are money

politics, infrastructures, and less-respected leadership.

The first is money politics.

This disgusting strategy in politics in any country has driven the nation into an endless nation problem.

The leaders of any region and especially in a country who are born through this bad tactic will never exhibit satisfactory performance.

They are like a robot controlled by the money giver.

The leaders like this cannot be expected to provide their nation with prosperity. The only way they can do is merely calculating the effect of the policies made.

When the policies are not beneficial for their cronies, they will not realize those policies. Unfortunately, most of this type of leader has dominated the nations everywhere.

The second is infrastructure. Any country with insufficient infrastructure tends to spend a lot of budget. They cannot operate all the policies appropriately due to being lack of infrastructures. One of the ex-

amples is a logistic problem.

When a country has wide territory, it needs smooth transportation. All logistics provide better efficiency when they are prepared and well-developed. Unfortunately, most, especially the developing countries, they are lack of the logistics. It is common when travelling in such countries, problems with transportation exists everywhere in its territory.

The third is less respectful leaders. When the leaders have no respects from the people, they will never be successful in doing their jobs. Most of the leaders who have lost their respect from their people cannot do anything except having the decisions without thorough execution. As a result, they do nothing and leave all the unfinished jobs with the next generation.

It is ridiculous to have a country which remains to be in this kind of condition.

It is time for the people to have their minds changed.

It is time for the nation to have their position in high bargaining position, not merely to be the objects of money politics. All these expectations need the real political education exhibited by their political leaders in practice by showing the best model attitude.

these incidences will even go further as the May voting gets nearer and nearer every day. Elections in the Philippines have always been like this ever since the birth of democracy in our country and some people, so ignorant of the process, even think one has to use their muscles to topple their political opponents.

anyway and the people involved in heated politics become friends after the process. It is a tradition of sort like celebrating a fiesta when, after the joy and happiness, things get back to normal.

We expect more political disasters as the great day approaches and I would ask our hospitals, clinics and people involved in medi-

cal health to be prepared all the time. I just cannot understand why we have such behavior by making politics a time for hatred and quarrel. Some politicians aggravate the situation by their speeches full of attacks and inviting big fights.

Naturally, the followers or supporters, particularly the less educated come forward to ward off verbal attacks.

Political campaigns in the national level are quiet and calm, but some people in the provinces of Luzon are reportedly getting heated. This is true in Cebu and other provinces in the Visayas which have been the venues of trouble due to politics.

I hope peace officers have already pinpointed the areas most likely trouble erupts.

Undoubtedly, Mindanao usually is first in political feuds and with people keep-

ing arms in their homes, would mean a big problem if things are not controlled.

I hope the Comelec has plans with the police to take things normal and avoid unnecessary trouble.

I just cannot understand why Filipinos are taking it seriously the activities in choosing leaders. I mean we don’t have to fight it out or shed blood just to elect a president, senators and a hundred others.

We should learn from our past when a lot of people were killed because of political intrigues and the likes.

We must avoid the repeat of history and practice friendship in the midst of differences in political turmoil.

We must preserve the honor and integrity by all means as we exercise freedom of suffrage and let this be a loud voice for a change.

OZAMIZ City--Mayor Reynaldo O. Parojinog Sr. and his bodyguards, backed by the police, arrested three men allegedly involved in the series of kidnapping and carnapping in Northern Mindanao inside a pension here on Saturday (October 17, 2016) morning.

Parojinog identified the suspects as George Edmilao, Jamaodey Maunga, and Victor Tabada, all residents of Barangay Bulua in Cagayan de Oro City.

Jeralde, managed to escape by jumping from the window of the second floor of the pension house where he and the suspects stayed.

The mayor said Jeralde reported the incident to he Barangay Police Action Team (BPAT) on duty at the Barangay Hall of Banadero.

After he was informed about the incident, Parojinog, his bodyguards backed

by policemen responded to the area and subsequently arrested the suspects inside the pension house.

The driver told Parojinog that the suspects hired the

van he was driving from Cagayan de Oro City to Iligan City at around 1 p.m. on Friday (October 16).

They arrived in Iligan City at 3 in the afternoon.

“They told me that we will be going to Iligan City because a buyer is waiting there,” said Jeralde.

Later, he said the suspects told him to bring them to Marawi City, some 66 kilometers south-west of Cagayan de Oro City, but

the buyer has no enough money to buy the car, a Toyota Grandia.

From Marawi City, he said the suspects decided to go to Ozamiz City, where they stay for an overnight at a Pension House in Barangay Banadero.

The suspects, who are still handcuffed behind the back, are being interrogated by Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. shortly after they were arrested in a Pension House in Barangay Banadero in the morning of October 17. Oro dad calls for adoption of measures vs effects of El Niño COUNCILOR Zaldy Ocon, chair of the City Council committee on environment and natural resources, is urging the public to adopt the suggested precautionary measures issued by the DILG in its Memorandum Circular No.2015-118.

The memorandum was issued to all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors, DILG regional direc-

tors, the regional governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the Bureau of Fire Protection chief and all other concerned to take all precautionary measures in their respective areas of responsibilities to address the continuing El Niño conditions in the country.

DILG Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento based her

advisory on the report of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) that moderate El Niño conditions will continue to persist across the equatorial Pacific Ocean and may intensify towards the last quarter of 2015 and may last until early 2016.

In view of this, Councilor Ocon is encouraging house-

holds to use the water supply wisely by using brooms instead of water hose in cleaning sidewalks and driveways, fixing leaky faucets, using of pail or bucket instead of water hose in cleaning cars, using recycled or leftover water for houseplants and watering gardens during the coolest part of the day, among others.

Muslim religious leaders called for agri development RESEARCHERS from the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) in Midsayap in North Cotabato are tapping Muslim religious leaders in disseminating rice information and technologies and integrating the Islamic faith in agricultural development.

Six Muslim religious leaders from the pilot test site in Barangay Bugawas, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao were trained for two weeks on the Palaycheck system and other rice farming technologies to serve the community and capacitate their fellow farmers after

the training.

“Community organizing skills of Muslim religious leaders are commendable.

They have a good track record and are influential in their respective communities. Hence, the chance is high that locals will follow the technologies they will

advocate,” said Dr. Sailila E. Abdula, PhilRice Midsayap acting branch director.

CAGAYAN de Oro City-The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Misamis Oriental has initiated a tree-growing activity in the village of Malasag here dubbed as “Arboretum for Generations.”

Edgardo S. Callanta, head of PENRO in Misamis Oriental, said that the program was in partnership with E. Pelaez Ranch Inc. (EPRI), which provided a 10-hectare area to be planted with endangered indigenous species of trees that have to be protected.

Eduardo F. Pelaez, EPRI president, said arboretum was a place where trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants were cultivated for conservation, scientific and educational purposes.

“We expect to attain the project with the active participation of stakeholders in both the private and public sector through the public-private partnership,” Pelaez said.

Dr. Ceasar Nuevo, professional forester at EPRI, said that “Arboretum” was important in conservation efforts to save endangered trees and wildlife that depended on these trees.

He said that vegetation was vital to address climate change/global warming.

“More than just planting trees, the project seeks to pursue the sustainable source

of quality indigenous tree species identified/classified as endangered and can be protected and propagated to preserve biological diversity and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change,” said Nuevo.

He also said the arboretum wanted to collect more from all over Mindanao.

A total of 115 seedlings planted in the launching with indigenous trees such as almon, white lauan, manggasinoro, mayapis, red lauan, bagtikan, sakat, kalumpit, molave, bani, narra, kalukoi, nangka-nangka and dao came from Bukidnon, Zamboanga and Gingoog city, said Callanta.

Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez, of Cagayan De Oro City, said that in October, the Philippines submitted the country’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) to the United Nations (UN), pledging to cut by 70 percent its carbon emissions by the year 2030.

He said that the document represented the country’s contribution to the global effort to combat and prepare for climate change.

Rodriguez also said that the Philippines had also committed to adaptation measures to help prepare its citizens for impacts of climate change such as typhoons and drought.

DOH announces package services in PHLPost holds nat’l ‘Garantisadong Pambata’ round two letter writing day

CAGAYAN de Oro City-The Department of Health (DOH) region 10 through ‘Talakayan sa PIA’ press conference on 12 October 2015 announced that they have package services for zero to 59 months old in all health centers in region 10 as part of the ‘Garantisadong Pambata’ program round 2 in October.

Telesfora Madelo, nutritionist-dietician of DOH region 10 said that the package include free vitamin A to infants from 6 months to 11 months old and preschoolers from 12 to 59 months old; meanwhile ferosulfate drops will be given to low birth weight and low hemoglobin infants and supplement tablets to pregnant women who are high risk.

Based on DOH Administrative Order 119 s. 2003 on 2 December 2003 issued by the Secretary of Health,

priority targets for micronutrient supplementation include universal vitamin A supplementation to infants and children 6-71 months.

Vitamin A supplementation shall be given to children at risk, particularly those with measles, persistent diarrhea, severe pneumonia and malnutrition to help re-establish body reserves of Vitamin A and protect against further infections and complications.

Also, postpartum women shall be given vitamin A capsule within one month after delivery to increase vitamin A concentration of her breastmilk as well as Vitamin A status of their breastfed children.

Further, DOH will also provide dental aide or oral hygiene in daycare centers, operation ‘timbang’ (weighing of scale) for children and health education to barangay nutrition scholars.

In terms of optimal health of infants, Gilda C. Ajoc, nurse of DOH region 10 said that breastmilk is still best for babies.

Although findings from DOH show that only 60-70% of mothers in Cagayan de Oro City practice breastfeeding, they are still hoping that mothers will re-assess and go back to the natural way of feeding their infants.

Aside from the complete and natural vitamins and minerals, mothers can save lots of money by breastfeed-

ing, said Ajoc.

It is important for a child to attain education. It is because through doing so, he will be prepared for the challenges that he will be facing in the future.

Education will open a person’s mind wider. Dealing people of different levels of thinking is very challenging. It requires thorough understanding and organization of ideas to prevent or if not, manage conflict.

Being educated let a person fit from simple to critical situations. Even more, he can give accurate reasons and explanations behind his statements.

Education makes a better person. Positives and negatives normally reside in a per-

son’s character. However, it highly depend on the person on what of these two sides he will use. Being educated contributes much on this decision-making. Through it, a person could be able to envision the outcomes of his attitude and further take control over his behaviours.

He will then know how to improve his positive sides and decline his negatives.

Every situation that resulted to success or mess is a product of his actions, which on the other hand, his thinking made him to do so. It is always good to be prepared especially for situations that come as surprise, and attaining education is the best preparation.

CAGAYAN de Oro City--In celebration of the World Post Day, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Komisyon Ng Wikang Filipino initiated a nationwide event to promote postal awareness among students dubbed, ‘National Letter Writing Day’ on October 9, 2015.

Held in an establishment in Cagayan de Oro City, more than 200 high school students from randomly-picked schools within the city have participated.

Meanwhile, the same letter writing activity was held simultaneously in different schools within Central Mindanao Postal Area in coordination with their respective postmasters in the area.

younger generation to patronize letter-writing as an alternative way to communicate especially now that little by little is being forgotten.

There’s no reason to stereotype yourself. Doing math is like going to the gym - it’s a workout for your brain and it makes you smarter. − Danica McKellar Mathematics is a subject that involves abstract study of topics such as quantity, structure, space, and change.

Cheerless to say, not everyone love Mathematics. It is because to truly understand such subject, one should apply critical thinking and analysis.

In an article published online, Peter Alfeld of University of Utah introduced ideas on how to improve mathematical skills.

Understanding mathematics does not mean to memorize recipes, formulas, definitions, or theorems.

Clearly, there must be some starting point for explaining concepts in terms of simpler concepts. Basically, elementary school math is the usual starting point. It is sufficiently rich and intuitive.

From these, questions will

arise, encouraging students to think deeper and search its roots.

The best tip in enhancing mathematical learning is to acquire mathematical understanding. According to Alfeld, Always strive for understanding as opposed to memorization. If this means you have to go back, do it.

Reading books is also another way to enhance your learning abilities in mathematics. Perhaps, you already learned so much, but always leave space for new explorations. Math, like many subjects, also evolves.

There are possible new theories and mathematical laws that would be introduced and it is important for you to know about it too.

Math is so hard to be befriended to some but anyone could befriend it through fully understanding its subparts. Thus, a good studying habit must be practiced. It just take right amount of understanding and discipline in order to be successful in this challenging subject.

Several appropriated amount in the 2016 budget will still go to the payment of some parts of the debt left by the former administra-

“We are just being consistent with our set of priorities as outlined at the very start of our terms a few years back,” Emano added.

It is expected the SP will act on the budget with dispatch through its finance committee headed by Kag. Jabi Bernaldez, a newlyminted Padayon Pilipino member, the party of the Governor.

The governor’s calendar last week has been full but he always took some hours daily to meet with his financial managers in order to get the budget done on time.

Vice Governor Joey Pelaez commended the punctual submission of the executive budget to SP by the governor.

“This is part of the intriguing personality of the Governor. His being a tickler for details is making our job easier. Time frames set by law are not for nothing. I take off my hat to Governor Bambi,” said Pelaez.

By adhering to the schedule, the Vice Governor added, Gov. Emano shows his great respect for the law as well as for the SP members who also have their own schedule to meet.

The touching church scene was when the faithful surprisingly gave the aspirants a long and thunderous applause after being blessed by Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos.

In their messages before some 3,000 cheering supporters at the Almont Resort Hotel and Convention Center here, Fortun and Lagnada made loud and clear their calls for “reform in the system of local governance, decisive leadership, and action instead of indifference to confront serious and urgent concerns involving illegal drugs, illegal mining and environment.”

Fortun slammed the city administration led by Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. for lack of serious effort in rehabilitating the Taguibo Wateshed which supplies potable water to at least 200,000 population. Amante and some of this city’s officials, he said, have not raised a hand in implementing the Butuan City Watershed Code, a local ordinance he principally authored as vice-mayor before assuming his post as congressman in 2013. The local law provides for the protection, reforestation and rehabilitation of this city’s watersheds to sustain water supply for residents.

Instead of attending to the critical condition of Taguibo Watershed, Fortun blasted the Amante administration for its effort in legitimizing illegal mining in Barangay Maibu here and contributing to extraction of our natural wealth and resources that is irreplenishable and destructive to the environment.

“We want a decisive leadership with a political will.

We want a leadership that listens, responds and acts to the people’s concerns whoever gets hurt,” the lawmaker said.

While he did not elaborate, Fortun was referring to the controversy in the Liga ng mga Punong Barangay here in which majority of its members had passed a resolution asking for the resignation of its president and incumbent City Councilor Nestor Amora for loss of trust and confidence, a matter which Mayor Amante

has not taken action.

According to Fortun, he, as congressman, has delivered some P2.28 billion and P1 billion worth of infrastructure projects to his district in 2015 and 2014, respectively, which are currently implemented apart from millions of pesos worth of classroom and school buildings, support to 1,800 students and hundreds of TESDA scholars under his education program since 2013.
