PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur -- Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza has called on residents in the remote strife-torn village of La Purisima to put an end to the series of killings involving feuding tribal leaders. “I’m tired of listening to the news about the killings here in your village,” Plaza said in his speech before indigent villagers of La Purisima villagers who were treated from the medical, dental and feeding mission initiated by the provincial government. The governor has expressed concern over the recent killing of Juan Perez,

an aging Manobo tribal leader, early this month which sparked mass evacuation among lumad villagers in the sub village of Gacub. Perez is the uncle of Gilbert Perez, the village chieftain of La Purisima who was killed by still unknown assailants early last year but many believed the spate of

killings could be borne out of unresolved land conflict among Manobo tribal leaders. Ironically, the feuding tribal leaders belong to the same family blood ties. Plaza was emphatic about his appeal to end the violence that have wracked the village that he dared village See wants, page A11
