Normin log processers shackled by DENR policy By MARK FRANCISCO Staffmember

THE 67-strong Northern Mindanao Tree Planters and Wood Industry Federation, Inc. is calling on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to relax a provision of its Executive Order No. 23 restricting the log processers from getting their raw products within their accredited suppliers. “We are bound by law to abide by the order requiring us to present a five-year log supply contract from our sources. But most tree plantations here in Region 10 are small farm hold-

ings which cannot meet the minimum five-year volume requirement as stipulated in EO 23,” Northern Mindanao Tree Planters and Wood Industry Federation, Inc. president Prudencio T. Plaza Jr. said. In a dialogue with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 10 regional executive director Ruth M. Tawantawan last Monday, Mr. Plaza admitted that most of the logs they are sourcing from are of inferior quality as a result. The Northern Mindanao Tree Planters and Wood See log, page A11

The Pilipino Movement for Transformational Leadership (PMTL) is the convergence of many simultaneous consultative processes that came together to consult and guide Christian voters of various denominations in choosing the right lead-

The movement aims to muster a “Christian Vote” bloc of at least 10 million votes nationwide, according to Bishop Ruben Abante, secretary general of Bible Believers League for Morality and Democracy (Biblemode) and Bishop of Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church. PMTL’S Goals “We have come together as Christian faithful seeking to establish God’s reign in our beloved country by electing into office Godcentered and competent

servant leaders who are committed to the welfare and empowerment of the Filipino people,” said Atty. Alex Lacson, lead convenor and official spokesperson of the PMTL during the Sept. 15 launch at Club Filipino. “Ultimately, it is about giving people the power to make a discerned choice in electing leaders who truly have the interests of their countrymen as their reason for seeking public office,” Lacson added. “So we will give them a process, and a guide to make this a reality,” Lacson said. The People’s Primary A selection process called

the People’s Primary will be undertaken by the PMTL convenors. Through this process, prospective aspirants for the position of President, Vice President and Senator will be endorsed by their member organizations to the PMTL convenors, who will short-list the candidates based on the GABAYKRISTO. Hire security guards By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor

CAGAYAN de Oro City--A local official here urged businessmen to hire private security guards in compliance with the Ordinance of the city government. City Councilor Edna Dahino, chair of the city council committee on trade and commerce, said that City Ordinance No. 128412014 mandates all high-risk business establishments to hire or engage the services of duly license security guards. “While everybody’s excited and preparing about

celebrating the Christmas season, all money couriers, those that cater to remittances, money changer shops, and others should consider the security of their businesses,” Dahino said. Dahino said that everybody must be on guard because in a condition where people are living in squalid poverty, the lure of money is so strong. “It is our duty to keep the would-be-criminals at bay not because of being tempted to commit a crime, See hire, page A11
