SHDA holds 1st Housing Expo in Oro

After a rigid and thorough screening process, Honda Philippines has named its first ‘Supremo Hero’ awardee in the person of 55-year-old Rogelio Parungao, a tricycle driver from Marikina City. Marikina City is one of the flood-prone areas in Metro Manila, especially during typhoons and weather disturbances. Rogelio is one to rush to people in need of assistance, especially those trapped by rampaging floods, bringng them safely to evacuation centers. Yet, what made Rogelio more deserving of the honor is when he acted as a real-life hero by bringing suspects of a recent crime to the authorities, risking his

own life in the process. Rogelio is married to 42-year-old Elsie, and father to two children – 10-year-old Luis Angelo, and 8-year-old

Charmaine. He has been driving a tricycle for the last 23 years.

Audi launches the all-new Q7, a premium family SUV Audi Philippines reasserts its presence in the full-size premium SUV segment with the much-awaited arrival of the second-generation Q7 – its all-new, awardwinning family SUV. Hole in the heart THINK a minute. You may have heard of Jimi Hendrix. He has been called the greatest guitar player of rock n’ roll. One night, Jimi Hendrix was performing for a huge crowd of thousands at a sold-out concert. Suddenly, right in the middle of the concert, he stopped playing. The thousands of people in the audience waited in silence, wondering what Hendrix was going to do. Finally, the silence was broken when Hendrix spoke through the loud speakers. He said: “If any of you out there knows how I can get peace of mind, please meet me backstage after the concert.” The big crowd sat in silence, completely surprised and shocked! Sadly, not one person in that crowd of thousands came backstage after the concert. And Hendrix never found the peace of mind he was so desperate for. The next day, Jimi Hendrix was found dead, from an overdose of drugs. What a tragic story. You know that our Creator made every one of us to share and enjoy life with Him. In fact, we all something like a hole in our heart and life, like a missing piece of a puzzle. And until we find that missing part to fill our life, you and I can never have real, lasting peace and satisfaction, because we’re not complete. We can try to fill this emptiness with things like money, power and respect, physical pleasures alcohol, drugs or sex outside marriage. We can even try to fill it with religion. But none of these things can give you real peace and satisfaction that lasts a lifetime. They may feel good for a short time, but later we’re back to feeling empty, restless and unsatisfied. This is because only Jesus Christ your Maker can completely fill the emptiness in your heart and life. So why not ask Him to forgive you for living your own way? It’s only then that you will finally be complete, and enjoy real peace and satisfaction that lasts a lifetime. Just Think a Minute.

He said he also exposed anomalies in the National Irrigation Administration involving multimillion irrigation projects which led the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to file criminal charges against some Caraga NIA officials. Fortun said that he was able to allocate P2.28 billion for infrastructure projects in Butuan City and Las Nieves town in 2015 and P1 billion in 2014 all of which were implemented aside from allocations for school buildings and scholarships which benefited 1,800 students and TESDA scholars in his district. He pointed out that never did he claim the projects to be his own stressing that the money spent for them belonged to the people and therefore, the people had the rightful claim ownership of the projects. He said that as congressman, his only role in the projects was to propose their inclusion in the budget as member of the House Appropriations Committee. Probe starts on release of alerted cyanide containers By CHENG ORDOÑEZ Associate Editor and GERRY LEE GORIT Correspondent

Cagayan de Oro and MCT, told Mindanao Daily News (MDN) that, initially, the probe team have issued subpoena to the manager of the Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT). “They (investigators) will be requesting some data and information; (they) will be asking for circumstances/ explanation on why the said alerted containers were released despite receipt of the said order,” Enciso said. “The investigation will run for a week to cover everything,” according to Enciso. Enciso laughed off on reports that he has denied

his earlier statement published by Mindanao Daily News, saying the reports are not true and are merely the handiworks of unscrupulous individuals out to discredit him and Mindanao Daily News. He said the truth will come out in the investigation. On October 26, 2015, Enciso requested for the issuance of an alert order for the seven containers of sodium cyanide after receiving derogatory information that the shipment, which arrived MCT on October 23, 2015, was devalued and with no pertinent documents from the Environment Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), here. Immediately on the same day, Atty. Alameda issued the alert order intended for the shipment under the

name of “Acestar International Service Corporation”, as consignee, with Bill of Lading (BL) No. APLU014021866, which arrived from Japan via Sima Sapphite V024. However, Enciso found out that despite the alert order put on the shipment, the seven containers had been released from the MCT. BOC officials at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) vehemently denied having to do with the release of seven containers of sodium cyanide, which is the subject of the alert order, saying the release of the seven containers were in order. The explanation came after Atty. Alameda issued a memorandum to the concerned officials “to submit an explanation on the release of the shipment of seven containers sodium cyanide

As regard the question on why the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in Caraga issued the environmental clearance instead of the Northern Mindanao office, the officials said it was proper, because Greenstone Resources Corporation is operating in Surigao, and the EMB that should release the certification must be from there, because they have to check whether Greenstone has the capability to store the chemicals safely and properly. Enciso said other members of the probe team are expected to arrive this week to help carry on the investigation upon orders from Customs Deputy Commissioner Jessie Dellosa.

BFAR to press charges against ship owner for dumping waste THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will file a case against the owner of the unnamed ship for dumping highly toxic chemicals to the sea that killed more than a ton of marine products in Babatngon, Leyte. Citing initial investigation, BFAR Regional Director Juan

Albaladejo blamed the ballast waste released by the unnamed vessel on Monday as the main cause of the fish kill. “Our team has been gathering all data in preparation for the formal filing of case against the ship operator for violating Republic Act 10654,” Albaladejo said in a mobile phone interview.

The fish kill has stopped Tuesday afternoon, but until now BFAR is still clueless on the name of the vessel that dumped the waste on Monday. BFAR is coordinating with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) to identify the vessel. Among all government agencies, only EMB has the ac-

MY PHILOSOPHY IN TEACHING READING By Sigundo N. Datoy, Jr.

When I was in fourth year high school I was asked by my teacher what course am I going to pursue after graduation. My answer was I want to be a teacher. I want to teach my pupils someday on how to spell, to love figures, to write and the most important one is on how to read. My teacher told “hope you can be the best reader in the future”. This statement fascinated and challenged me to become one. Since I love my work, I am always motivated to teach. Considering my pupils as my own children, I

gave them the glamour, the expression of loving them, to let them feel that they belong in the classroom where they are in. In the grade I world, teaching reading is not easy especially at the start. But then my mind is already conditioned that these pupils I have should know how to read at the end of July or August. I think it positively, spend a lot of time and even gave them remedial reading teaching. I felt successful and contented at the end of the day if two or three pupils are improving their reading ability. Aside from that I always

This era is time that modern technologies such as computers and internet exist. These have become the source of people’s entertainment and means of attaining knowledge, but it is a fact that still, books is still alive and used. During the earlier years of child’s life, parents are providing lots of different stimuli. Books are considered as number one educational tool, and as young as few months old, little ones could get fascinated in the colours and textures of a book. Fact be told, the role of books is vital along the start of child development. There are several circumstances that children might chew a book, throw or play with it, but this is the first step to becoming a successful reader. In an article published in an online site, it is said that a book provides a child

with valuable vocabulary, starting from simple basic words all the way to making sentences and expanding their ‘word bank.’ Children’s imagination is stimulated and they can understand better the world they living in. Social skills are also developed through story books and children are learning about relationships and emotions. The routine of reading a book with your child, at bedtime or at any other time, is emotionally nourishing and creates a long lasting bond. In addition, a parent can give examples of everyday life to the child that relates to the story. In this way, the child can recognize different situations as it grows up, and be better prepared to deal with or understand them. CEPALCO officials explained that the power allocated for distribution to electricity subscribers here was less than the daily allocation of 150 megawatts. The NGCP, a private company is tasked to ‘transmit power’ and electricity to various power distributors in Mindanao, has denied any knowledge of allocated power to the local power distributors. Beth Ladaga, of the NGCP’s Corporate Affairs in Mindanao, said that the NGCP is not privy to the amount of power allocated to the local power distributors. “The NGCP only transmits the power allocated to the power distributors in Mindanao.
