Phase out of old PUVs start soon

AGAYAN de Oro City--Starting end of October this year, old passenger jitneys, taxis, vans and buses used for public transport in Northern Mindanao would be phased out, the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Thursday.
LTFRB Regional Director Mandangan Darimbang said that the franchises of public utility vehicles that are more than 15 years old would no longer be renewed as the LFTRB started to phase out the old taxis, buses, and vans. start | page 11

NorMin’s economy up by 7.4% By Mike Baños
NORTHERN Mindanao’s economy registered a 7.4 percent growth in 2012, higher that the 5.8 percent growth recorded during the previous year, the National Statistical Coordination Board said on Thursday. Northern Mindanao even ranked eighth in terms economic growth in 2012 among the 17 regions in the country, Officer-incharge Brenda Lynn Castro said. “The regional economic growth spurred in 2012 as industry and services posted higher growths as compared to the previous year,” Castro added. She said that the services sector of Northern Mindanao accounted for the biggest share of the region’s economy at 41.8 percent share. Castro said that Northern Mindanao grew at a faster pace in 2012 by 9.0 percent compared to its 4.6 percent growth in 2011. In a press briefing, Castro also said that the industry sector helped a lot in the economic performance in the regional economies. “The industry sectors accounting 33.4 percent of the region’s economy, expanded by 9.2 percent in 2012 from 6.7 percent in 2011,” said Castro.
