Bus operators urged to adopt ‘counter terrorism’ measures By MARK FRANCISCO of Mindanao Daily News

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday has issued a memorandum to all bus operators and drivers plying within Northern Mindanao to implement measures to counter terrorism Su lt an Ma n d a n g a n Darimbang, LTFRB regional director, said that the LTFRB formulated the measure as part of the strict security policy to secure the commuting public. Under the Memo Order, the bus operators should put a sticker to baggages with corresponding number while the other half is kept by bus personnel for record purposes. On disembarking, the passenger would then surrender the other half of the bus personnel. Along this line, the

LTFRB 10 has also designated loading areas, even for non-air conditioned buses so passengers could not simply embarked anywhere. This is to prevent a repeat of the December 2014 bombing of a nonair-conditioned bus near the Central Mindanao University (CMU) gate in Musuan, Bukidnon. The agency has designated a total of 38 loading and disembarking areas for the Cagayan de Oro-Davao route, 27 for the Cagayan de Oro-Kadingilan route, 18 for the Cagayan de Oro-Balingoan route, 48 for the Cagayan de OroTacurong route and 35 for the Cagayan de OroBanisilan route. Before this policy has been formulated, air conditioned buses plying these routes already have predetermined disembarking areas.
