Maguindanao unveils peace monument

OFFICIALS of Barangay 17 in Cagayan de Oro City are now in full preparations for the holding of their annual fiesta in Jue this year. Barangay Chairman Jerico Goldmar P. Ebabacol said: “We are now preparing for the one-week annual fiesta.” Ebabacol said the fiesta celebration dubbed as “2nd Hudyaka Festival of Barangay 17” will start from June 21 and will culminate on June 27. Aside from Fireworks Display, he said the barangay government of 17 will honor worthy individuals and zone
officials who helped the barangay attained more progress and development during the Gabi ng Parangal on June 27. Ebabacol also said that barangay officials who were elected for three consecutive terms will also be given proper recognition during the Gabi ng Parangal. “It is our way of thanking them for dedicating their lives to public service,” Ebabacol told Mindanao Daily News in an interview. He said three-termer barangay officials will receive BOODLE FIGHT. BULUAN, Maguindanao-While most city and municipal halls or plazas have the statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Maguindanao province opted not to put a hero or a certain personality for its monument. Instead, it has a big white dove perched on a globe spreading its wings – called the Mindanao Peace Monument – as the people’s way of expressing their quest for a lasting peace in the region. It was donated by the advocacy group Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) led by South Korea peace activist Man Hee Lee, and the Schincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple. The unveiling of the monument was one of the highlights during Monday’s Peace Summit. Lee’s group has been one with the Mindanao BishopsUlama Conference, in his group’s attempt to help various religious groups come to an understanding as far as peace is concerned.
