Nadya backs PWDs Philhealth coverage AFTER several months of waiting, persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city may now become members of Philhealth. This, after the city council committee on social services, chaired

by Council Nadia EmanoElipe, has finally moved to enrol the PWDs with said government health insurance agency. In her radio program, Council Nadia said “the city is now working on the

process to include PWDs, as beneficiaries of program.” It can be recalled that during the general assembly of the PWDs held months ago, the group expressed desire to avail of Philhealth benefits to

lessen their hospital bills, especially during emergency cases. She assured, “this is one of the priorities of the Emano administration. (arjay s. felicilda with report from JBD)

T HE B u r e a u o f M a d r a s a h Education (BME) under the Department of Education in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DepEdARMM) launched a new program on spiritual development and moral transformation. The program dubbed Da’wah and Transformation was developed to support the moral recovery thrust of the current ARMM leadership as a critical aspect of sustaining the reforms. ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman said this latest program will provide leadership in spiritual development and moral transformation of the ARMM bureaucracy as well as translate the precepts of peace building among Muslims in the

region. DepEd-ARMM Regional Secretary Atty. Jamar Kulayan said that among the more than 400 Arabic teachers employed by DepEd-ARMM are prominent Ulama who can be tapped to lead in spiritual development and moral transformation. Under the program, BME is considering Spiritual Development and Renewal through Ihtikaf (Group Retreat), Ikram (Service), Ijtima’ (Annual Congregation); media-based advocacy (radio Da’wah); and Islamic values integration across the K to 12 curriculum with Arabic teachers serving as mentors to subject teachers, said Madrasah Education Undersecretary Prof. Alzad Sattar.

LaNorte hosts Girl Scout Encampment By Elaine O. Ratunil TUBOD, Lanao del Norte - The Lanao del Norte Girl Scout Council played host to the 23rd Regional Girl Scout Encampment for Western Mindanao at the sprawling Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex, Barangay Sagadan, Tubod on February 1 to 5, this year. Close to 2,300 girl scouts participated in event, with 900 campers from Lanao del Norte district. It was the most attended encampment in the region, since 2009. Among the activities were obstacle games, wallet accessory making, emergency preparedness, basic

swimming and beauty care. The five-day activity was aimed at empowering the campers by discovering and enhancing their scouting skills, fostering camaraderie and enabling them to appreciate and enjoy the outdoor life. “We are very thankful to the Lanao del Norte GSP council for hosting this event and for the selfless contribution of the provincial government in making the encampment truly successful,” GSP Regional Executive Director Tita Alvarez said. SOME 42,000 undernourished pupils stand to benefit from the Department of Education’s School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP), which aims to boost their health and help them do well in school. DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro said the feeding program gives nutritious meals to pupils suffering from severe malnutrition for 100 to 120 feeding days. “Our specific target(s) here are children who come to school on an empty stomach which results to absenteeism or poor school performance. THE Department of Education and the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) have agreed to formulate and implement programs to mainstream arts and culture in the Philippine basic education system. The memorandum of agreement signed by the two agencies is in line with the proposed upgrading of the curriculum under the K to 12 Basic Education Program that seeks to enhance the special education program for the arts. “This means that we are recognizing the arts as one of the innate talents of Filipinos and can be a source of steady livelihood for our people when properly nurtured in the schools” said Education Secretary Armin A. Luistro, in a statement. As stipulated in the agreement, DepEd and the NCCA

will collaborate to conduct cultural education programs that also include teacher training on the aspect of art and culture and the development of training modules and instructional materials. The NCCA is mandated to ensure the widest dissemination of artistic and cultural treasures across the Filipino society here and abroad. It will work closely with DepEd to develop an intensified arts and culture education program in public and private schools and ensure the continuous training of cultural workers and administrators. “Part of our mandate at DepEd is to make schools the most important venue for the teaching and learning of culture and the arts and further enhance our love of country and pride in our rich heritage,” added Luistro.

Successful million volunteer RUN 2 CDO The RED CROSS MILLION VOLUNTEER RUN 2 hosted by Philippine Red Cross Misamis OrientalCagayan de Oro Chapter was held last Sunday, February 10, 2013 with over 10,000 volunteer runners. The race which started and ended at the RED CROSS CHAPTER inside the Provincial Capitol Compound, Cagayan de Oro City had participants from all walks of life including students, workers, businessmen, executives, and community leaders. BUKIDNON - Multiple celebrations were held on Valentines Day at the Pag-IBIG Fund Malaybalay Extension Office (MEO). Aside from the civil mass wedding in the cities of Malaybalay and Valencia, Bukidnon, the agency also had the blessing of its new MEO at Paz Building, Carbajal St., Malaybalay City. The MEO operates and serves a total of 62,313 members from all over the province alone, complemented with eight 8 personnel, headed by Division Chief Elizabeth Amarille. Member-borrowers applying for the Short-Term Loan (Calamity and Multi-Purpose) and Housing Loans (Retail and Developers Account) and member-savers applying for their Provident Benefit Claims may now submit their documentary requirements at the aforementioned office. Queries on the member’s savings and loans can also be verified at the MEO. Other services at the MEO include the receipt of payments for members’ savings and/or loans and check disbursements on the members’ Provident Claims and loans. On same day, Pag-IBIG Fund Cagayan de Oro Branch’s Department Manager Ferdinand F. Saniel signed the Memorandum of Agreement with Maramag Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative’s (MACO MPC) Chair Calixto D.S. Daquiado. Under said MOA, some 1,000 members of MACO are expected to register as active members of Pag-IBIG Fund. MACO MPC began its operations since 1990.
