Bisan man gani ang ubang mangdakupay… lupaypay og lihok kay “under the influence of liquor”. Kinahanglan gayod nga kadtong mamatud-ang nagmotorsiklo o nagdrive sa ubang mga sakyanan “under the influence of liquour”, sikupon ug paga-
prisohon.
Baffling lack of info on Laguindingan (First of two parts) There’s a baffling lack of information from the government agencies charged with the upcoming opening of the Laguindingan Airport on April 30, 2013. Take this statement from Candice Iyog, Vice President for Marketing and Distribution of Cebu Pacific Air, the airline operating the most number of flights from the Lumbia Airport: “CEB has not received official notice on the transfer date to Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) from CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines). CEB may have to reschedule and/or cancel some flights because LIA is not night capable and will be limited to sunrisesunset operations, unlike the Lumbia Airport today. “ Forty days from the planned opening and there’s no official notice to the domestic carriers of the impending transfer? What gives? This doesn’t sound like the transparency promised by the “Tuwid
Hammer and Anvil Mike Baños na Daan” of PNoy as well as the “Kayo ang Boss ko” consultative governance repeatedly promised in his previous State of the Nation’s (SONA) addresses. True, consultation was done by the CAAP in two public hearings but this was only for the proposed terminal fees and not the more substantive issues like passenger safety and convenience. What next, LTO consultation on the taxi fares? When the Oro Chamber tried to initiate a dialogue with PNoy during his latest visit, they were rebuffed, and the petition personally handed to him by Oro Chamber President Efren Uy immediately given to an aide without so much as a by-your – leave. So far, everyone
(except the airlines, it seems) has been made to believe Laguindingan is definitely starting operations on April 30, 2013. The idle talk that Misamis Oriental Gov. Oscar Moreno has been pressuring Malacañang to immediately open Laguindingan is pure hogwash from his political opponents. Par que? To take away the glory that is rightfully Donkoy Emano’s who ostensibly pushed for the airport when he was still governor of the province? As a former employee of the Cagayan de OroIligan Corridor Project Management Office (CICSDP) I can truthfully say it was former President Gloria Arroyo’s insistence the project be implemented
which made the difference between making that airport a reality and not a pipe dream, regardless of the 25 years it took to make the blueprints come true. Furthermore, it was then Atty. Oscar Moreno, corporate legal counsel of Ayala Corporation which donated a major portion of Laguindingan’s 400 hectares, who had more a hand in its coming to fruition than the former unlamented governor who was kicked out of his office. As to the rumors that Oca wants to open it to take credit for it in time for the May elections, let not anyone forget that it was this same person as chairman of the Laguindingan Airport Development Project (LADP) Special Management Committee who insisted the Air Navigation Systems and Support Facilities (ANSSFs) undergo a rigid bidding and awards process to ensure the safety of the air commuters riding in and out of the airport.
Mr. Nice Guy Think a minute… Bram Stoker was a successful theatre manager in England during Queen Victoria’s time. Everybody who knew him said he was the most easy-going, kindest man they knew. Bram’s wife, Florence, was a beautiful woman who had been courted by wealthy men of high social status, including the famous Oscar Wilde. But she chose to marry this exceptionally kind gentleman, Bram Stoker. The Stokers were seen at all the highsociety parties and important events. Later, when their child was born people said their marriage and family was perfect. Bram Stoker continued to be known as Mr. Nice Guy. He often gave money to his
friends without even asking for anything in return. Bram and his wife had many famous friends like Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, and the President of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt. No one ever suspected that this nice, kind man actually lived a double life. They didn’t know that at night after work and all his proper, social appearances, Bram Stoker became someone else. In fact, he was also a writer. You see, he wrote the famous story, Dracula, based on his own real life at night, and all the evil things he did with prostitutes. Bram Stoker, this nice man by day and immoral monster by night, eventually died from the sexually transmitted disease of syphilis.
You know, Jesus Christ said that there are many nice, religious people who live double lives. They do all the good, right things on the outside for people to see, but inside they’re proud and live their own way for their own immoral pleasures. But even if we fool people, we can never fool God. Jesus said every human being needs His gift of forgiveness, because we’ve all done many things wrong. Jesus also said that we all, including nice, religious people, need His power to change our proud, wrong hearts and character. That’s why God the Son had to become a human being: being: to die and pay the penalty for all our wrongs. It
was the only way we could be forgiven by our perfect Maker and start a new life living His way. So won’t you ask Jesus to forgive you and help you start changing today? Jesus will give you real satisfaction and peace, and the power to live His right way both in public and in private, night and day every day. Just Think a Minute!

Surprised rebels, flee By Lt. Col. Eugenio Julio C. Osias IV
CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City---Troops from the 58th Infantry “Dimalulupig” Battalion have encountered 15 rebels believed to be members of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 4A at Sitio Kabayawa, Barangay Poblacion, Carmen, Agusan del Norte, afternoon of March 15, this year. Apparently surprised, the rebels abandoned their belongings and fled after the 20-minute firefight. At the place of encounter, the troops recovered 20 pairs of Battle Dress Uniform (BDU); one improvised explosive device, with a detonating cord, blasting cap and triggering device; ICOM charger; motorcycle without plate number; 100 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition; six backpacks containing propaganda materials; other subversive documents; 19 lunchboxes; and a terrain model laid on the ground. The rebels were believed to be planning wide-scale atrocity based on information gathered in the encounter site and recovered materials. The government troops are still in pursuit operation to catch up with the rebels. No soldiers were hurt during this encounter. Lt. Col. George Banzon, commanding
officer of 58IB said, “we owe the success of this military operation to the locals in the area who have promptly reported to us the rebel presence in the area.” He added, “this incident immediate gain is the recovery of valuable materials, but aside from this we are also able to pre-empt the conduct of these rebels of another crime against the people. Winning peace in our area will be easy with the people in our side.” With the recent encounter in Carmen, Agusan del Norte, military officials believe that the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division are now gaining significant developments when it comes to solving the insurgency problem in our area of responsibility. “We thank the populace for the success of this operation that led to the preemption of any evil plan that these NPA criminals are crafting against the government and our fellow kababayans. The people’s timely report of information of rebels’ presence that gave our troops great advantage that caught the enemy by surprise,” they continued while encouraging other Filipinos to follow the lead of the residents in Brgy. Kabayawa and cooperate with us and help us in our mission of rounding-up these criminals in the soonest possible time.”
Jefi M. Hona of the Department of Education (DepEd) region 10 said during the Orientation of Studies on the Effect of Iodized Salt in Processed Foods by FNRI, DOST and UNICEF that DepEd through the funding and assistance from UNICEF has also implemented Iodized Salt advocacy through asking their students to bring whatever salt they are using at home to the classroom. Teachers will then use test kits to determine whether the salt they bring have iodine. This way, they gauge how many actually use the iodized salt in the school. (PIA 10)

The Sun shines bright in the Queen City of South “Dahil dito sa Cebu, di ka IN kapag di ka naka-Sun.”
Tried, tested and proven true – Sun Cellular, indeed, is the most dependable communication partner in the Queen City of South. Spa owner Pinky Matias happily shares how satisfied she is to be part of the growing Sun community. A subscriber for five years now, Pinky proudly says that all her therapists are also using Sun Cellular. “This (Sun) is our way of communication at work. Kasi una sa lahat, talagang nakakatipid!” Aside from value for money, she also shares that with Sun, it’s easy. “I always ask my staff pagnagmi-meeting kami, kamusta… and masaya sila, using Sun. Kaya dito sa Cebu, Sun Cellular talaga
ang number one. Kasi we are contented sa services na binibigay sa ‘min ng network. “When we learned about Sun (a few years back), we shifted right away. And we’re happy!” Pinky says that they enjoy the services of Sun especially the Give-a-Load wherein they can share credits to one another. “And this doesn’t cost much. For me, example, I can give P25 or P10 to my therapist (who are Sun Prepaid subscribers) and this can already sustain our one day of communication,” she adds. Pinky is a postpaid subscriber since the beginning. She availed Sun Group Plan 999 with her husband and colleague that already
comes with three free phones and three individual lines – packed with unlimited Sun calls & texts and free internetwork text messaging. She says that they are enjoying the postpaid line that allows them to call their fellow Sun contacts without worrying about communication costs and call duration. In Cebu and anywhere in the country, Pinky trusts only Sun Cellular when operating her business. Wherever she is, she can monitor her sales and therapists through her Sun-powered mobile phone. “That’s how useful it is for my business.” And because of the affordable rates, she shares she sees no reason why one wouldn’t choose Sun for a telecom
network. “Dahil dito sa Cebu,” she proudly shares, “talagang ‘di ka ‘in’ kapag di ka naka-Sun.” Indeed, the network shines the brightest in the Queen City of South! In fact, just late last year, Sun Cellular announced that it continues to be number one in market share in Cebu according to a retail audit study conducted by an independent firm, Infospring Research Agency. High RP mobile penetration rate augurs well for mobile advertising
With 9 out of 10 Filipinos owning a mobile phone, mobile advertising becomes a vital marketing medium which companies can take advantage of for their business to grow and succeed. This was pointed out by Glenn Estrella, Globe Telecom head of digital media during the Mobile
Advertising Roadshow organized by the Entertainment Gateway Group (EGG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globe. Estrella first took the centerstage with his discussion on the importance and relevance of mobile marketing. He cited significant figures that indicate the effectiveness
of mobile advertising as a vital marketing medium. According to him, as of December 2012, 45% of the total mobile phone industry sales has been achieved for smartphones. Of the 94 million Philippine population, 19 million or 20% browse the Internet on their mobile phones, majority of them
are first timers. On top of that, approximately two billion SMS are exchanged daily. “These significant numbers clearly manifest that mobile advertising is going to be an important marketing instrument for companies to succeed,” Estrella said as he enumerated several reasons
why mobile marketing is the way to go for any business entity. For one, Estrella said that mobile advertising is instant. Market studies reveal that the average response time for SMS is 90 seconds as compared to 90 minutes for email. Its opt-in advantage should be taken into con-
sideration as well. Since mobile advertising boasts of a targeted reach, he said that EGG clients could already have a massive captive market given the over 30 million strong subscribers base of Globe. What is more compelling about mobile rp /P2
