CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Councilor Alam Lim on Monday declined to say if he would accept a a designation as anti-illegal gambling czar of Cagayan de Oro City.

“I will study it,” Lim, who was recommended by Councilor Roger Abaday to lead a campaign by the

City Council against antiillegal gambling, said.

He said this should be the decision of the city mayor because the city council’s work is only in aid of legislation.

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte -- The Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) of Iligan in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) steps up its supervision of groceries and hardware products through a random price and supply monitoring of commodities at the city’s main stores and markets.

The LPCC price and supply monitoring activity aims to ensure consumers’ welfare and lessen reasonable increases of prices and regulate the supply of basic

commodities in public markets and groceries, as well as construction materials.

Led by DTI staff, two teams were deployed to check on prices on basic and prime commodities under Senior Trade and Industr y Development Specialist (STIDS) Elvira G. Redublado, while the other team under Mark Jhon Montepalcon looked into prices of construction materials such as cement, steel bars, GI sheets and plywood.

The monitoring was made following the bad weather condition which

consisted of Low Pressure Area (LPA) that brought heavy rains for days in the province. It eventually damaged the bridge connecting the two towns in Lanao del Norte particularly Larapan Bridge in Barangay Napo, Linamon. The damage hampered the transportation and delivery of goods from Lanao del Norte and Zambonga areas, which are Iligan’s major sources of rice and fish.

According to Redublado, there is no notable increase in the prices of basic commodities in the city.

Jesus shows us His right ways for our own happiness, not to be strict and take all the fun out of life. Jesus came to forgive us and show us the successful, satisfying life He created us for. So if you’ve not been living for Jesus Christ, you can do the smart thing today: just admit that your way of living is wrong, and ask Jesus to take full charge of your life. It’s only when we start living our Maker’s way that we can start enjoying His good life—the way it’s made to work.

(This is the latest update from the author , who is a former Davao congressman and who worked in Malacanang for former presidents Fidel Ramos and Gloria Arroyo.

His wife, Beth had gone to VILLA MEDICA in Edenkoben, Germany for fresh cell therapy (FCT). He had been writing about FCT and this is his latest update. He himself also underwent FCT treatment for its regenerative value.)

then was just to keep it at that level and prevent it from further deteriorating having been told that sick kidneys do not regenerate or do not reverse. We were told that if the GFR would go further down to 15 mL/min, she had to undergo kidney transplant or dialysis -- a procedure she does not want to consider or even think about.. So we took our chance in trying an unorthodox alternative anti-aging treatment that did not assure us of treatment but hoped that when

the fresh stem cell kicks in and helps regenerate organs, her kidney situation would also improve.

From all indications, It’s definitely working. What more, her recurring migraine attacks that started even during her young college days, just disappeared immediately after her first injections. LEGALIZE MARIJUANA? The use of marijuana has been rumored to be legalized soon. When this happens, people of all ages can just buy the item in grocery or even drug stores. Perhaps it will be peddled by small boys and girls in movie houses, cockpits, beaches or in places where there are crowds. Nobody has yet the reasons for its legalization but I surmised it is due to the failure of the government to curb, control or stop its clandestine operation and spread to the general public.

Another reason is America is legalizing it and being the great imitator, the Philippines is bound to legalize it too. This is a weird decision and whoever initiated it, must have reached the dead end about providing society safely against the effects of the dreadful marijuana.

Well, it is the case of “if you cannot lick them, join them” and I hope the legalization of marijuana will not be followed by other illegal things like legalizing prostitution, adultery, and

The general public just do not realize this because they think all the while that such stupidity in the election process is appropriate within the standard of law.

To be honest about it, we have a lot of citizens living in the countryside and even in urban areas who are ignorant and uneducated.

The people should be aware that marijuana is not like the ordinary tobacco insofar as its use is concerned.

It has stronger effects in the

smokers unlike the cigarettes we buy in stores. To many users, once tested it is always wanted. Addiction is final. Its cost is another worry since marijuana has less supply and therefore, will command a bigger and heavier cost in procuring it. It is the simple law on supply and demand. The moment you are addicted to marijuana, it is forever and to get away from it, is almost impossible. Many cigarette smokers have stopped doing the habit very easily but not marijuana. Another thing is once a person is under the influence of marijuana, he is like an extra drunk and reckless.

And to think that the Philippines is heavy with

vices like drinking alcohol, gambling, womanizing, and others, more of these kinds could create problems in the home and society. In the first place, there are so many people who have no jobs and this means some of us have to resort to begging or stealing to buy marijuana. At least in the illegal marijuana, less people venture to its use and parents would caution their children against its procurement. It would certainly be different when the matter is sold in public indiscriminately and legally.

In short, we are encouraging people to use marijuana in all weather by removing its obstacles.

The government should have thought first of providing jobs for its people before legalizing the illegal that would eventually add to the burden of poverty.

Needless to say, unemployment in the country goes up each year while very few job openings take place.

5 News RDC-X sees Panguil Bay Bridge ready by 2016 CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Officials of the Regional Development Council of Northern Mindanao (RDCX) and major stakeholders of the Panguil Bay Bridge (PBB) Project met with Secretary Rogelio L. Singson of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on January 30, 2014 at the DPWH Central Office to facilitate funding and early implementation of the Panguil Bay Bridge (PBB) Project.

Secretary Singson expressed full support for the implementation of the PBB project within the term of the Aquino Administration in consonance with the government’s efforts on enhancing agriculture and tourism development in the region.

Latest developments include the completion of the new business case study with grant assistance from the Government of Korea. The civil works and approaches are proposed to be implemented through a combination of Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Government

of the Philippines (GOP) funding that shall include the acquisition of the road right-of-way.

With ODA funding, the DPWH can avail of foreign technology in constructing and designing bridges in relatively deep bays.

Once completed, it was suggested that the operation and maintenance of the bridge shall be managed by a private sector which shall collect toll fees from the users through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.

Approval of the PBB project by the NEDA-Investment Coordination Committee is targeted within the first half of 2014 so that the loan can be obtained by mid-2014, detailed engineering to start in the fourth quarter this year, and bridge construction to commence within 2015.

Costing P5.193 billion, this 3.6 kilometer two-lane bridge will connect the municipality of Tubod, Lanao del Norte and Tangub City in Misamis Occidental and reduce travel time between the two places to only about seven minutes.

Panguil Bay Bridge is

one of the priority projects in Northern Mindanao considered as one of the major strategic interventions particularly in providing access, logistics and infrastructure services toward the attainment of inclusive growth. Once completed, it will provide uninterrupted access from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities to Tangub, Oroquieta and Ozamiz cities and the rest of Zamboanga Peninsula. It will also enhance agricultural development and industrialization along the Cagayan-Iligan Corridor and the TubodTangub-Ozamiz-Oroquieta growth areas.

The BOSS is a simplified new business registration process held every January by the local government units (LGUs) to make it easy for businessmen in securing or renewing their business permits as the agencies required in the documents such as Department of Trade and Industry, Bureau of Fire Protection, City Health Office and Sanitary Inspection, among others, are in one convenient location.

DTI provincial director Ermedio J. Abang said they were able to expand BOSS services in the province’s five LGUs. “In partnership with the LGUs and various national government agencies, DTI was represented by Gina Lynn Tulang at the Malaybalay City BOSS and Eriberto Taban-ud Jr. in Valencia City and the municipalities of Manolo Fortich, Maramag, and Don Carlos,” he said.

The DTI checked on the business name registrations and helped those who applied for new business names and those who simply renewed expired ones, he added.

3883), requiring business establishments to register their business names at the DTI subject to certain exceptions, which is aimed at protecting consumers against erring entrepreneurs.

“With simpler permitting system, businessmen will be better able to access financing and other support for their operations as proofs of registration are usual requirement of banks and other financing institutions. The sooner these are acquired, the better for the businessmen,” Abang said.

Advanced teaching strategy to a successful learning process

The purpose of teaching is to mold ideas and understanding in the minds of an individual. Thus, it is important for an educator to determine the kind of teaching methods he should be using inside the classroom. In this way, his delivery of lessons would be interesting and further successful.

There are various methods introduced by several scholars in the matter and manner of teaching.

Two ideas that would be discussed below are just few.

The traditional one is through lecturing. It is an established and considered as good method. In this method, a teacher should not only depend and read the lessons on the book, but also interact with the students through calling each names to answer or to read lines.

In other words, student participation is required along the teacher’s discussion. In articles online, it is stated that that there are good

Sapad Town in Lanao del Norte inaugurates new municipal hall CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY --The municipality of Sapad in Lanao del Norte completed on January 28, this year its two Storey Municipal Hall and Furniture Projects.

The project, amounted to P27,983,025.89, is funded by the Mindanao Development Fund Office (MDFO), Department of Finance, through the Mindanao Basic Urban Sector Services Program (MBUSSP) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 10, said Atty.

Rene K. Burdeos, DILG-10 Regional Director.

One of the significant activities during the ceremony was the cutting of ribbon by Vice Governor Ma. Christina N. Atay and Mayor Paruk U. Asis followed by blessing of the building by the Sapad Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Sandy Mallorca.

Meanwhile, MBUSSP is a six-year sector development project of DILG which intends to provide institutional

capacity-building program and to pursue urban infrastructure investment support to participating Local Government Units (LGUs) in Mindanao. This project also provides technical assistance and advisory in services to participating LGUs for essential urban infrastructure services, Atty. Burdeos said.

According to Burdeos, the MDFO created the Municipal Development Fund Project (MDFP) through Resolution No. 05-05-25-2006.

Further, this new financing window is in response to the increasing demand of LGUs for better financing terms for the implementation of their priority development projects.

Utilizing the Municipal Development Fund-Second Generation Fund (MDFSGF), this new lending facility offers comparative interest rates for LGU investment projects, said Burdeos. (Ana Celeste W. Felisilda/DILG/ PIA10)
