UTUAN City - In line with the Mindanao-wide campaign dubbed as “TreeVolution: Greening MindaNOW,” the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) together with its partner agencies in the government and private sector aims to plant 4,636,000 trees in multiple locations covering a total of 9,200 hectares in just one hour.

“This will also serve as a campaign to improve environmental awareness among all Mindanawons,” expressed MinDA Sec. Luwalhati Antonino in her written statement sent to Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga.

AG AYA N d e O ro City - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region 10 turned over the first communitymanaged potable water supply sanitation and hygiene (CPWASH) project in barangay Maliwanag of Maliwanag, Cabasagan, Tinubalan and Mananao agrarian reform community (MACATIN-AO ARC) in Baroy, Lanao del Norte.

The facilities included two iron removal filters (IRF), one biogas digester, two rain water collectors with one IRF inside and four bio-sand filters were turned over to the

Maliwanag Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

The total project cost amounted to P160, 000 which covers the construction of water and sanitation facilities as well as trainings for selected members and para-engineers.

About 210 households in the barangay benefited from this project, of which 132 households are agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).

During the turnover ceremony, Baroy municipal mayor Rosa Olaffson expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the DAR for choosing barangay Mali-

wanag as the pilot site of the project.

Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer (CARPO) for Provincial Program Beneficiaries Development Division (PBDD) Alex Lomondot urged the members to properly maintain the facilities so it will continue to provide them with safe and clean drinking water. He said this could be the beginning of more projects to come.

CPWASH was conceptualized by the DAR to install low-cost water supply technology and sanitation systems that primarily address the requirements of safe, clean

A TEACHER’S TRIUMPH

It is amazing to know that teachers are the most fully loaded in terms of responsibilities and concerns. A truckload of responsibility is given to a teacher once she enters the door of her classroom. From a mere ordinary person, a teacher could transform into a lot of personalities. She could be an artist, a clown, an adviser, a friend, a mother and even a nanny at times.

But teachers are basically humans, endowed with emotions and weaknesses.

When I was young and a bit foolish, I did have a different thinking with regards to teachers. For me then, teachers were someone related to super heroes, that they were untouchables. They were high and mighty, somehow they

did have a some kind of a magic power that they could just give commands, and all the children under their care would immediately without question follow it.

Teachers then for me were one of the luckiest creatures on earth.

My perception of a teacher changes when I become one. I have realized teachers are not indeed high and mighty. Teachers are the simplest persons in the world, whose joy is seeing their children learn. The ultimate joy and fulfillment of a teacher is seeing the children under their care learn progress and develop. Every time I can see and hear a child reads a word with correct pronunciation and can construct simple sentences, I felt I’m

at the seventh heaven, an unexplainable feeling is felt. Simple changes are enough for a teacher to be overwhelmed.

I am a teacher and I am proud to be one. I am a bearer of light and hope.

In my hand lies a great responsibility. So great that at times, it weakens my passion and commitment to teach. I admit there were times I got tired because of a lot of concerns, but then I got to recharge and revive the passion and commitment for the sake of all the children under my care. I cannot afford to just sit around the corner and do nothing. I have an important role to play; and that is to teach with too much passion and keep the fire burning at all times.

ARAWI City, Lanao del Sur - The DeM partment of Health in the

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOHARMM) have gathered government and private health workers engaged in maternal and child health care in the region to evaluate two of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) targets of the ARMM government.

MDGs are eight international development

goals set by the United Nations to be attained in 2015 following a summit of UN member states in 2000. It includes the reduction of child mortality and improvement of maternal health.

Out of the 46,648 public schools in the country, only 140 (0.3%) schools have failed to submit data for SY 2014-2015, which demonstrates a very high participation and submission rate by the

schools. The concerned divisions have already been instructed to complete the remaining school information immediately.

This system is envisioned to allow the Department to better track its learners in both formal and non-formal instruction so that more appropriate interventions can be formulated in the provision of quality education for all Filipino learners. As an example, students who transfer from one school to another can be monitored and better assisted by using data from the LIS.

The use of automation and technology has helped the Department update information on enrollment for planning, budgeting and resource allocation among others. Luistro added that, “What used to take ten months to collect, consolidate and validate has now been reduced to three months. This is a result of the use of technology and the power of our people.”

As of June 6, 2014, the Department is looking at a total of more than 20 million student enrollees for public schools. (DepEd)
