Filipinos told to support Vigan ‘Wonder Cities’ bid: DENR chief Environment Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje has called on Filipinos across the globe to support the bid of the historic city of Vigan in Ilocos Sur to become one of the world’s new seven wonder cities. He said Vigan needs the same overwhelming support that made Palawan’s Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature in 2012.
Paje, who served as the national campaign manager for the PPUR, said Vigan also deserves the full backing of Filipinos all over the world. “Vigan is worthy of all accolades and recognition as a Wonder City,” Paje pointed out. “It has been wonderfully preserved as one of the few Hispanic towns in the country, with structures intact due to best practices in management, governance, stakeholder involvement, and awareness
on cultural heritage.” Vigan City is a favorite tourist destination in Northern Philippines, famed for its unique colonial architecture lined by cobblestone streets and visited for its distinct cuisine. It is the only Philippine town or city on the list of heritage sites declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization The heritage city of Vigan attract foreign and local tourists alike because of the way how history is cooperated (UNESCO). As a caring mother, nature provides all the things we need from her abundant resources. Embedded in her belly, are gold and other precious stones. Her enormous mountains abound with flora and fauna. In her deep seas lives the different species of marine life with all their amazing beauties. She is a great mother to all of us, no doubt about that. But as her children, we, the human beings, exploited and abused her, leaving her
dry and barren - totally bereft of the beauty she was once possessed. Did you hear it? She is now calling for help. And we hear it! But then, did we listen to her? Did we pay attention to her plead? Did we? Of course some did, but most of us didn’t hear her plead. A beseecher whose beseeches fall only to deaf ears and dumb hearts. Are you one of those who listen to her? Or one of those who ignore her? We are the youth, the future of our motherland. Climate change is already here and we cannot change the fact that we could no longer get rid of it. But I guess we can still adapt to it. How? By helping Mother
