REPENT Repentance means a change of heart and mind, resulting to a change in action. Unang-una, mali ang nag-talik kayo ng hindi pa kayo kasal. Sex outside of marriage is unwise. That is the reason why God discourage us to do it because He consider it as sin. Even if this practice is accepted in our present society, kahit ito na ang uso; live in muna bago kasal at kahit ito ang pakiramdam mong tama, still, this is wrong in the eyes of God. If you’re relationship started on the wrong foot then you can be sure that you’ll make a series of wrong choices and mistakes along the way. This will lead you to experience bad consequences.

To save yourself from this endless cycle of wrong moves, repent, and make a u-turn!

welve new weavers graduated last week as the Department of Tourism (DOT) through the effort of Hudyaka trained them during a one-week intensive course as part of the group’s advocacy to promote Mindanao silk and other indigenous materials originating from the island.

This, as Hudyaka 2014 opened last Sunday evening at Centrio to much applause from the audience, fashion enthusiasts and everyone concerned in promoting Mindanao while models strut featuring the couture and end-products of six designers who band together to use Mindanao-sourced fabric in their wares.

The rest of the products will be on continuing display at Centrio activity center until November 8.

Guest of honor Brian Tenorio, worldrenowned social entrepreneurcum-designer, lauded Hudyaka’s efforts in grouping together to pro-

mote the use of native materials for their quality products which are exported mostly to Europe.

“I am inspired by what you are doing. Alam nyo ba, when I was in New York, I showcased a walis-tingting that is made of inverted Christmas balls. And the Americans were awestruck.

It means that our creativity as Filipinos is much appreciated anywhere in the world. Their value will be quadrupled,” Tenorio said.

Led by the indefatigable designer Martha Rodriguez of Vesti, Hudyaka is also composed of Ann Seblante, Chris Gomez, Joco Commendador, Jun Artajo, Nicole Cabanlet and Shiela Damalaerio.

Cabanlet of CDOHandmade.com is showcasing her series of Earthborn travel journals and notebooks that are 100 percent handmade, tree-free and acid-free. All her products are natural paper materials sourced from Higaonon abaca farm-

ers in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. Earthborn observes a strict code of conduct which includes fair economic practices, quality assurance and environmental consciousness. Earthborn is a finalist of the renowned I Am A Changemaker award of the British Council that provides grants to budding social entrepreneurs.

Gomez of Chromez Home Furnishings presents a series of designs that are more on the juxtaposition of light and space as he makes modern floor lamps using recycled paper into a papier mache on a level that is CDO-inspired.

Modern, functional and sophisticated, Chromez is definitely a work of genius as accent pieces to be transported into your lovely homes. Gomez creates each piece with his own hands. His products have already reached Singapore and Germany.

Comendador of Joco Shoes provides an array of footwear designs, ranging from towering platform shoes to sculptural wearable ones.

He is currently focusing on avant-garde perky, colorful and experimental styles. Comendador

is part of the Manila FAME Red Box featured artists last March.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez of Vesti has been fascinated with handwoven indigenous fabrics from Mindanao. She built Vesti to showcase the different facets of these handwoven indigenous fabrics from different tribes and communities in Mindanao and turned them into stylish bags.

She is also one of the Manila FAME Red Box featured artists last March.

Artajo resonates a very literal yet sophisticated interpretation of Mindanao identity. He is one of the most sought after Manila wear designers in Manila FAME. Hailing from Davao City, he joins the Hudyaka designers on putting her trademark prints on Mindanao silk.

And then, Dimalerio’s Shiela Bags is known to be a fusion of classic and timeless chic. With her recent accomplishment to be part of the Manila FAME Red Box last March, she awed the audience with her intricate details and wood manipulation towards bamboo clutches in different strokes of color, finishing and beading.
