AS the country looks forward to re-opening its economy amidst the pandemic, the prospects in Mindanao are looking increasingly bright. “Mindanao business is not yet back 100 percent but a lot of businesses in the manufacturing sector have continued operating and in fact, have increased their capacity from 50 percent during the ECQ to 75 percent today as can be seen our peak load in power consumption rising back to 1,200-1,300 megawatts (MW), just a bit lower than pre-Covid levels,” said Ma. OVER 320 drums of hydrochloric acid has been turned-over by the Bureau of Customs Port of Cagayan de Oro to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 10 (PDEA 10) on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Mindanao Container Terminal Sub-port, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. The hydrochloric acid is a precursor chemical for the manufacture of methamphetamine hydrochloride or ‘shabu’.

NEDA-X showcases Northern Mindanao COVID-19 Regional Recovery Program THE National Economic and Development Authority-Regional Office X (NEDA-X) presented the highlights of the Northern Mindanao COVID-19 Regional Recovery Program (RRP) during the Mindanao Chamber Management Forum held 07 September 2020 via video conference. Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, NEDA-X Regional Director and RDRRMC-X for Rehabilitation and Recovery Vice Chair, showcased the RRP along with the Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2017 – 2022 Midterm Update and its imperatives, the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP²) Program, and the Innovative Platform for Programs/Projects/Activities’ Location Assessment (IPA-LAMDAG) as part of the session on public and private engagement in the development and monitoring of regional recovery and resiliency. NEDA-X, the sole NEDA Regional Office invited as one of the speakers, led

SSS pension loan releases reach P5B mark

THE Social Security System (SSS) hits its P5 billion mark in pension loan releases benefitting 138,917 pensioners from September 2018 to July 31, 2020. The National Capital Region (NCR) topped the highest amount of disbursement with P1.75 billion, followed by Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao area with P1.57 billion, P1.01 billion, and P724.12 million, respectively. In terms of the number of borrowers, Western Visayas 1 took the lead with 17,660 borrowers, followed by Northern NCR with 17,037 borrowers, and Southern Luzon 1 with 14,872 borrowers. “We appreciate that this special loan program has served its purpose of providing retiree pensioners with their immediate financial needs especially in this time of health and economic crisis,” SSS President and CEO Aurora C. Ignacio said. The Pension Loan Program was launched in 2018 to provide a secure, lowinterest, and convenient loan program to its retireepensioners. Enhancements were made in 2019 increasing the maximum loanable amount to 12 times their basic monthly pension plus the additional P1,000 benefit, but not exceeding P200,000. The age limit was also extended to 85 years old at the end of the month of the loan term wherein they are given four options to choose their loanable amount, equivalent to 3, 6, 9, and 12 times of their basic monthly pension including the P1,000 benefit given by SSS in 2017. Qualified borrowers are retiree-pensioners who are 85 years old and below at the end of the chosen loan term and have already started receiving their monthly pension for at least a month. However, pensioners with deductions from their monthly pension due to outstanding loan balances or benefit overpayments, as well as with existing advance pensions under the SSS Calamity Assistance Program are not qualified under the program. “Cognizant to the influx of PLP applications, we prioritize the health and safety of our pensioners in visiting our SSS branches since they are more susceptible to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). As part of this precautionary measure, we strongly advise our PLP applicants to set an appointment first with the nearest SSS branch,” Ignacio concluded. Look at our Malls, about 90% of products being sold are imported and everything sold passes at least five marketing layers. Don’t you know that a pill of Lipitor that is being sold in our pharmacies at P50 is just bought in New Delhi, India at thirty-five centavos P0.35); that a bag of fertilizer (Ammonium Sulfate) sold in Mindanao at P1,500 is just bought in Ukraine at P50? This is the reason why a famous owner of these malls is one of the richest oligarchs

in the world. The time has come to have a shift in the contemporaneous marketing paradigm that has consigned our country to be a marketing site of products of global corporations, burying the Philippines to so much consumerism through the gospel of advertisements by the mainstream media. Buy this, buy that so that you will be happy; drink Coke because it adds life; smoke Marlborro to be macho. These are some of the outpourings of non-stop fake information to brainwash the people. Face mask as national mandate

THE time has come for Congress to pass a bill making the wearing of face masks as national mandate. These days of the pandemic, the wearing of masks is the new norm, chic and trendy you can’t simply do without. No doubt ab out it, masks has become man’s ‘best friend’ next only to mobile phones. It has gained a ‘vogue’ status as the newest outfit never imagined to become an instant hit, beating the latest fashion in town. Practically all levels of economic strata, you maybe rich or poor, the wearing of masks has become mandatory, and there are no

exemptions whatsoever. The wearing of masks is such a simple and easy way to demonstrate respect to yourself and more to others. Those who refuse to wear masks are those who are not willing to lift one finger to help others. And this could be translated to their political ideology, apathetic, Ignorance, arrogance, and defiance all wrapped up in one ugly package. The newest chapter of quarantine directive has just been out and as expected, a large portion of the country is still on restrictions — Iligan and Bacolod cities now the hotbed of pandemic, other areas had remained GCQ and MGCQ. Social anxiety SOCIAL anxiety is the single most common psychological problem according to innumerable survey results worldwide. The magnificent, gorgeous, and excellent isolation, resulting from being nervous when meeting people is really the opposite. The state of being isolated reminds me of being in a hospital with an infectious disease. Especially nowadays in times of Covid-19 ... . Does the project of giving a speech or going to a social gathering give you the willies? Relax, there are always ways and solutions to help you by teaching you “never to be nervous again”. I have always been the most silent pupil in elementary and high school. I was ashamed even to talk to or

with my teachers. Several not really satisfactory (?) school records have been the result. But, I wanted to become a journalist. I am still one. And, I taught at a state university for more than 12 years. During college times and while writing the first articles I learned from my first boss, a daily news publisher, to avoid being nervous while meeting people. I was always prepared. Preparation for any communicating situation is a must. I have been invited to many parties and gatherings. I always asked for the guest list. DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC) has approved investments in the property and manufacturing sectors worth more than PHP2.1 billion, its chief, April Dayap, said Tuesday. Dayap identified the investments as the Acacia Hotel with a PHP1.8-billion capitalization, Green Solutions Agri-Business manu-

facturing with a PHP340million capitalization, and the Sta. Clara socialized housing project that is valued at PHP55 million. She said the three major investments have already met this year’s investment target of PHP2 billion. Dayap said the local government initially made a robust investment forecast this year but the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic forced a decline

in growth targets as early as the second quarter. Still, she said, the local government remains optimistic about this year’s investment prospects given the interest shown by foreign and domestic investors in this city’s economic viability. MANILA – The city government of Manila expressed its full support to the national government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in its implementation of the Manila Bay beach nourishment project that includes the overlaying of “white sand” in the area. Valencia City. “Farm Tourism is a big market in Europe and Taiwan while in the Philippines started in Laguna that has already potential income of PHP1 million per month,” Unchuan said. She also said farm tourism activities were already gearing up since last year but stopped when the coronavirus disease pandemic hit the country and the rest of the world in March this year. However, Unchuan said the industry slowly picked up and returned in July this year. Aside from promotion, Unchuan said DOT-10 provides product development, technical assistance, and training to the 18 farm tourism sites with the help of other national government agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DoST). TeaM Energy pushes education initiatives amid COVID pandemic TeaM Energy Foundation (TEFI) is pursuing efforts to help public schools in its host communities prepare for the start of the new school year this coming October, while grappling with the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic. In coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and different local government units in Quezon and Pangasinan, TEFI donated various learning and hygiene materials that will help teachers and students adjust to the new normal once classes begin, in support of the DepEd’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan. “We realize the impor-

tance of sustaining the learning process for students in a safe and effective manner, while addressing the challenges brought about by this global pandemic,” said Greggy Romualdez, Head of External Affairs, TeaM Energy. TEFI donated 650 reams of bond paper and more than 200 ink cartridges to DepEd Quezon Division. These materials will be used to print learning modules for the teachers and students in Quezon. Additionally, TEFI also partnered with DepEd Quezon to facilitate the airing of learning programs over Quezon local radio. Even when face to face classes are suspended this

school year, TEFI still managed to participate in this year’s Brigada Eskwela by donating essential learning tools, as well as hygiene and disinfection packages to schools in Quezon and Pangasinan. More than 300 boxes of surgical masks, 240 gallons of isopropyl alcohol and 60 gallons of bleaching solution were provided to various schools in both provinces through the program. Aside from its yearly participation in Brigada Eskwela, TEFI has also built a total of 20 fully-furnished classrooms in Quezon and Pangasinan since 2014, in partnership with the DepEd

Set a time when you will check COVID-19 updates, and limit how long you spend reading or watching them each day. It is important to spend time doing things you enjoy and find relaxing. Frontline #COVID19 responders and other essential

workers face many challenges while they work to keep us safe and maintain services. We support and thank them for their efforts. The frontline responders working tirelessly to save lives during this pandemic deserve time to rest. Talk to your colleagues or supervisor if you think you may be experiencing burnout. If you feel stressed and overwhelmed, talk to your colleagues or supervisor about your feelings and challenges. Further verification with the Registry of Deeds, Misamis Oriental revealed that the subject Free Patent forwarded by CENRO B500-A was registered due to lack of supporting document to warrant registration. Subsequent follow up at the Registry of Deeds showed that the subject free patent was finally registered on November 26, 2018 under OCT NO. P 24009, Copy is Annex C3 of this complaint. 6. The late registration of Free Patent No. (NRD-X-5) 3236 on November 26, 2018 clearly indicates gross irregularity and fraud in the issuance of subject free patent; 7. Jesus Sia the patentee is not, and was not a resident of Manga, Sugbongcogon, Misamis Oriental, it was impossible for him to comply the conditions required by the Public Land Act, CA141, as amended by PD 152, particularly actual personal cultivation of the applicant of the land applied; pursuant to Sec. 91 of CA141, free patent (NRD-X-5) 3236 issued to Jesus Sia is deemed ipso facto cancelled; 8. The truth being, lot 664 is already a private property of Luis Labial thru actual and continuous possession and improvements for more than 30 years under Article 1137 A of the Civil Code of the Philippines. The survey on November 17, 1983 under Cad 766-D was clearly a table survey because had there been actual field survey, the surveyor should have seen the standing matured coconut trees planted and owned by Luis Labial or his children on the Land; 9. Filipino workers are leaving the country everyday leaving their respective families behind just to find jobs in other countries The outpourings of advertisement have imprisoned our mindset that has horribly put our country in the quagmire of poverty. Today, liberation time has come through cooperativism to break the oppressive marketing system. The cooperatives of the farmers, fisherfolk, Indigenous People and ecological people are now into massive production and value chain approaches. They are now producing, processing and marketing their products to replace foreign products that are just dumped in our malls. In Northern Mindanao, for example, the Northern Mindanao Federation of Dairy Cooperatives is producing and processing the best milk, chocolate and cheese. In Balingasag, the Linabo Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Cooperative is producing Coco-sugar which is finding market abroad as the coco-sugar is of high quality. Organic rice is being produced by our Cooperatives in Banawe. Chocolates are being produced, and processed by Cooperatives in Quezon Province branding the products, “from beans to bar.” These are just some of the amazing stories to share on the products of the thousands of cooperatives nation-wide. It is indeed so amazing that the cooperatives are now pronouncing that buying is like casting a vote. The time has come to buy local, buy essentials, healthy and organically produced food. Let the truth reverberate throughout the land that when you buy local, you support the livelihood of the poor and the vulnerable, thus, providing them income while generating jobs. Don’t you know that because you buy local, the 18,481 cooperatives through-out the country have generated some 580,000 jobs nationwide and liberated the poor and the vulnerable from the quagmire of poverty? To quote Speaker of the House Peter Allan Cayetano when I reported to him such truism: “Talaga Chairman Orlan, noon iiwanan ang pamilya para magtrabo sa ibang bansa, pero ngayon hindi umalis kasi naka-trabaho dahil sa Kooperatiba! NGCP introduces drones, aerial thermal inspections to modernize power transmission operations AS part of its mandate to operate, maintain, and develop the Philippine power grid, NGCP continues to upgrade transmission facilities across the country despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since NGCP took over operations of the transmission network in 2009, the company put in place a strategic modernization program to replace and upgrade outdated facilities and processes it inherited from the government. For its operations, NGCP has equipped three of its helicopters with high definition photo and video cameras with gimbal stabilizers, infrared scanning,

and UV detection equipment to monitor, inspect, and evaluate the condition of transmission lines and equipment, particularly those inaccessible due to terrain and environmental restrictions. With these helicopters, NGCP can assess, immediately identify, and deploy personnel and equipment. This is especially crucial during emergency power restoration activities after typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other natural or man-made calamities. NGCP b egan using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) or drone technology in 2019. With

its high definition photo and video capabilities, transmission line inspections are efficiently completed within a shorter amount of time, in contrast to the previous practice of climbing transmission towers. The company has three drones currently in use and will continue to roll-out the use of drones around the country in the coming years. NGCP is also preparing to introduce a Central Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) to remotely operate its substations. The system will comprise of real-time monitoring software and hardware which will be used for the acquisition,

collection, monitoring, and analysis of power data and equipment condition. By operating the CCMS, NGCP will be able to pilot unmanned substations, effectively improving the operational performance of its facilities and provide greater flexibility for expansion. NGCP substations are also equipped with antiflooding and fire blocking systems.
