THE House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) has ruled to proceed with the opening of ballots

used in the 2016 elections for the first legislative district of Cagayan de Oro City as contested by losing congressional candidate Lourdes Candy Darimbang.

In a three-page decision dated August 17, the HRET quashed the appeal of respondent Rep. Rolando Uy praying to reconsider the tribunal’s earlier May

25 decision ordering the custody of ballot boxes from the 24 barangays in the first district containing around 13,000 challenged votes. See okays, page 11
