HAVE you ever regarded the beati tudes, as proclaimed by Christ, (cfr. Lk 6,20-26) a confusing doctrine, if not a crazy idea, impossible to be lived, and an exaggeration? Don’t worry so much about it. We can be sure that Christ would understand if we have that reac tion. But we should also try to understand why Christ came out with those doctrines. The beatitudes are actually Christ’s way of telling us how to be realistic about our life here on earth, marked with all kinds of negative things which can actually be converted into our pathways to heaven, to our eternal joy and the fullness of life. The secret is to follow the example of Christ. We can only understand and live the beatitudes if we have the very spirit of Christ. We have to realize that the beatitudes actually expand our understanding of what would comprise as our true happiness by including those situations which we normally regard as unsavory and therefore to be avoided as much as possible and hated. We know that these situations are hardly unavoidable. In fact, they are inescapable, what with all the growing differences and conflicts we are having among ourselves nowadays. If we have to be realistic about our life here, we better take the beatitudes seri ously.Blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are they who mourn, blessed are the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness or justice, those who are merciful, the clean of heart, the peacemak ers, the persecuted, those who are insulted…There can hardly be any worse predicament than all these!YetChrist reassures us that it would just be fine, and in fact he promises us a great reward, if not now then certainly in the life hereafter. And he is not bluffing because he himself underwent all those disasters and yet he conquered everything with his resurrection. In short, he has proven the veracity of this teach ing with his own experience. We need to study well the content and spirit behind the beatitudes by looking closely at the example of Christ. There we will have the reassurance that all the suffering and sacrifices that we have to go through, and the effort that we have to make in this life would be all worth it. And to be sure, we can live those beatitudes, because Christ himself would give us all the necessary graces. We just have to train ourselves in the appropriate attitudes, skills and virtues. The beatitudes are meant to extricate us from our own prison, our own world which is the an tithesis of what true love is. They are meant to expand our heart to save it from being trapped by our own worldly and bodily desires. They are meant to teach us how to give ourselves to God and to everybody else, irrespective of how they are, which is what true loveLoveis. is always a matter of total self-giving, be it in good times or bad times, in favorable conditions or not. Love has a universal scope. It is supposed to be given without measure, without counting the cost nor expecting any reward. It can be very discriminating without ever being discriminatory. In short, the beatitudes detach us from our own selves so that we can truly identify ourselves with Christ who is the very pattern of our humanity and the savior of our sin-damaged humanity. They are actually a way to our libera tion from our own self-inflicted bondage to merely earthly and bodily urges. They purify us from any stain caused by our worldly attachments.

PHIL-CHINA WATCH

Roy Cimagala

The Malaysian newspaper Malay siakini headline this last August 31, 2022: “Citing US ‘provocation’ Dr M calls on Asean to pivot towards China.” It is a power ful call that should reverberate not only across Asean but also throughout the world. It is a courageous statement from the usually reticent Asean and Asian countries too polite to tell the Americans and Western Powers that Asean wants peace and not provocations.Ihopethat this call of Maha thir may shake up some US policy makers, legislators and military high brass that their strategy of tension around on Taiwan and militarization of the South China Sea is backfiring on them and alienating Asean nations, although I won’t bet that the West can ever change its battle fatigue colors and camouflage approach to all issues of international im port. The West’s colonialist and imperialist hegemony mindset can’t shed its arrogance. By saying what he said through the Financial Times, a Western global publication, Mahathir really intended to shake up the West as well as Asean and Asian capitals and populations to the threat of war the Americans are now seriously posing to the region. His additional message is to stop the American provoca tions by now clearly siding with China on the One China policy and openly tell the Americans that: “We will not be with you in the provocations for war!” We should shout it out even more emphatically in the language of street protests, “Yankee Go Home!” In Filipino we could add ”Tama na, Sobra Na, Alis Na” (Enough, Too much, Get Out”, and its really about time that all the peoples of Asean be drilled in this slogan because the US of A is really not only threatening but actually already building up to the next war in Asian to destroy Asian’s Rise and restore Western hegemony over the region. In a war planning exercise by the US think tank Center of National Security (CNS) reported first in Philippine media by Dr. Dan Steinbock of the Difference Group, the US under the BidenBlinken foreign policy guidance is shifting away from priority on the Ukraine War towards Asia. We have been following the debate in US Deep State circles who have now apparently achieved consensus to refocus its war-making from Ukraine to the Taiwan Straits to destabilize the region. The US goal in Ukraine was to not only maim Russian society and economy but also do the same to its EU allies, particularly Germany and France which could bolt from the US alliance NATO if they strengthened beyond a point. But weak leaders also ensconced by the Americans in Germany (particularly the Greens) and France could not resist the US-NATO impositions and really implement the Minsk Agreement with Russia and stop the NATO expansion. The EU is in a declining trend with UK now slipping to sixth place behind India in the world economic rankings, and German industry desperately trying to stay ahead of the US economic obstructionism by investing heavily in China to ensure its continuing viability while its home in Europe is being destroyed by US machinations that invited Russian retaliation in weaponizing now its gas and energy fuel exports to the EU. In the CNS war planning for war in the Taiwan Straits the expected response of China to a Taiwan war would be nuclear retaliation consisting of major missile targeting including nukes of six sites in Japan, a major hit on Hawaii, several targets in Guam, and a major hit in Northern Luzon, while the US forces with strike three major targets in China across Taiwan. China is not shown to strike at Taiwan, leaving it safe, implying that China would not hurt its brother on that island. BBM in Indonesia, Singapore: HeedingPBBMMahathir?isonstate visits to Indonesia and Singapore from Sept. 4 to 7, will the Mahathir call to Asean be discussed? I see no reason why that can’t be raised as the Taiwan Straits ten sions and its impact of Asean will certainly be a serious common concern of the three state leaders in their two separate meetings. We should note that the main common ground for Asean talks on the Taiwan provocations of the US is the Philippines, can they support the Philippines in taking a Mahathir stance? No other Asean state will be directly affected by a conflict in the Taiwan Straits, it’s the Philip pines, and only the Philippines that will be hit by the retaliatory response of China to aggres sion around Taiwan. Governor Manuel Mamba of the Philip pines’ Cagayan northern province already raised his fears about the US-AFP Balikatan exercises held early 2022 with live-fire drills around his province and its waters -- and its impact on the economy of the region. We all should heed his concern. CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—The month-long celebration of the “Higalaay” Festival here delighted some local business owners as they bounced back from the pandemic woes, with more people going out this year. Pretty Gin Tenio and her partner founded Dale’s Taqueria food stall in 2020 when the pandemic started, but it was only this year that they expanded to two stalls and earned almost double— from PHP350,000 in August 2021, to PHP600,000 before the end of this month. “Last year, there were limited customers, so we have more deliveries (than walk-in buyers). This year, food traffic is huge, many would go to dine-in,” Tenio said.In 2021, the Inter-Agency Task Force placed the city under the enhanced com munity quarantine, further restricting public move ment, because of the spike of active cases at 3,300 in August. With the opening of classes this month, Tenio said sales slightly improved “but was not that bad” since it was still better compared to lastLurpeeyear.Gulle noticed the same trend in her apparel shop, Lurshoppe, as most of her clients were parents who needed to spend the budget for children going back to Gulleschool.said sales went back on track beginning on the 26th, coinciding with the major events of Higalaay last week. “It’s better now because children can go out with their parents, and people visit malls as a whole fam ily,” she Withsaid.this, her initial gross sales for August 2022 were around PHP350,000, as compared to the PHP250,000 tally for the same period last year. paperwork. Goal has to be broken down into specific goals. In return, these goals should be defined with activities and tasks, each one has its own timeline. One effective tip that I can share to my fel low teachers is to do the paperwork. It is simple as that. This maybe tedious, chal lenging and hard in terms of consistency but planning is like planning to succeed. The paperwork is to plan and make check list, and check those items out every single day.“Planning is bring ing the future into the present.”

The mother of former President Rodrigo Duterte, our lola, Soledad Roa Duterte, was an educator herself who put up a school for Lumad children in Davao City when she was still alive. And, as a child, I could still remember the many times I sat at the table with my mother, Elizabeth, to check the test papers of her students in the Philippine Women’s College in Davao,” she recalled. Petitioner os of legal age, Filipino, and presently residing in Inudaran, Marantao Lanao del Sur where he may be served with notices, orders, and other processes of this Honorable Court; 2. Respondent Civil Registrar of Marantao, Lanao del Sur is the custodian of all records of birth in the Municipality of Marantao. Its office is located within the Marantao Munipal Hall Compound, Marantao, Lanao del Sur where he/she may be served with notices, orders and other court processes; 3. Respondent Civil Registrar General of the Philippine Statis tics Authority (PSA, for brevity) is impleaded as the central custodian of all records of birth in the country and may be served with notices, orders, and other court processes of this Honorable Court at the PSA, NSO Building, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City; 4. Herein petitioner MOHAIMEN LUMAS BATUA was born on July 18, 1993 to parents Belen Pubadora Luma and Maca panton Ote Batua, as correctly reflected in his Cetificate of Live Birth (COLB) under Registry No. 2009-973; 5. In his school age up to the time herein petitioner finished college, he had used only said COLB under Registry No. 2009-973 and adopted the entries as correctly reflected therein; 6. To his dismay, recently when petitioner secured a copy of his COLB from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to comply with the requirements for the Philippine Criminol ogy Board Examination, he was issued a different copy of a COLB under Registry No. 2002-57 which reflects the following erroneous entries, to wit:

There are multiple types of individual differences that a teacher has to take into account when educating their students in order to convey their teach ings effectively. For instance, it can be the varied learning styles that consist of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic systems; it may also be the gap between the students’ academic abilities, or their various perceptions on certain lessons. Considering these, it must be understood that a single mode of instruct ing may not be applicable and effective for all students. Apart from the varied learning styles and individual capabili ties, there are also external fac tors that influence the teachers’ drive for teaching and students’ motivation for learning. An ex ample would be their workloads for the day. For the teachers, dealing with their last class in a school day may be a little more exhausting compared to earlier sessions given that they have already discussed the same lectures repeatedly which may cause deterioration on not only on their energy but also their physical conditions (e.g. having to speak softer due to strained throat, etc.). Similarly, when having their last class for the day, the students might already be overwhelmed with an overload of information accumulated from the previous classes and this can shift their focus towards the idea of want ing to go home as soon as the class ends. Overall, these could affect the learning culture or environment in a classroom, particularly in that last class. All things considered, a teacher must recognize the importance of having a variety of teaching strategies. Making sure that these would arouse the stu dents’ interests for learning and participating, and cater to the different needs of the learners; all the while ensuring that they are sustainable for the teacher to continue to be at their best throughout the day.

7. Petitioner was puzzled because it was the first time that he saw and received a copy of said erroneous COLB. When he complained before the PSA that since his high school graduation- the first time that he was required a COLB he had only used and was always issued by said office the COLB under Registry No. 2009-973 containing correct entries. The more he was surprised when he was informed that the latter COLB has been blocked from the PSA database as it consists a double registration of his birth certificate; 8. When he told his father about the first, though, erroneous birth certificate. It was discovered that petitioner’s biological parent’s having checked the same as they were already staying in Luzon earning a living for their family as early as 2002, the year when said first COLB was registered; 9. To substantiate his allegation and prove his correct middle name LUMA, pertaining to the correct surname of his mother, petitioner attaches herewith the following documents, to wit: College Official Transcript of Records and Diploma issued by the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Elementary and High School Diploma, Certification issued by the National Police Commission, Driver’s License, Police Clearance Identification (ID), Private Security ID, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance, Social Security System Personal Record, Bureau of Internal Revenue Taxpayer’s ID, his Marriage Certificate, Certificate of Live Birth of his children namely Princess Nhisrin, Mujahid, and Abdulwahid; 10. To Further show his mother’s correct middle and last name and his father’s correct middle name, petitioner attaches herewith the respective birth certificates of his mother, siblings Jalil and Jamaica, and the marriage certificate of his parents; 11. The erroneous entries in the COLB with Registry No. 200257 cause confusion as to the identity of Petitioner, thus correction thereof under Rule 108 of the Rules of Court is necessary; 12. The Petitioner is a bona fide resident of Inudaran, Marantao Lanao del Sur since childhood up to this date; 13. The petition is filed without slightest intention to defraud or prejudice the government or any person; its ultimate purpose being to rectify erroneous entries in the public records of the Civil Registry reflective of the petitioner’s true and correct personal information as appearing in all his other official records.
