El Salvador City shines in Asenso Mindanao debut

D N Te l e r a d y o’s ne west magazine show Asenso Mindanao streamed its pilot episode last Saturday with El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental as its very first featured local government unit (LGU).

According to Asenso Mindanao segment producer Ernesto Ayudan Sr., the program was initiated to make LGUs all over the island reachable to its constituents.

Police in El Salvador City conduct weekly anti-drug ops

EL Salvador City, Misamis Oriental--Aside from helping local health workers in the containment of Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the local police here still managed to conduct a weekly anti-drug operations.

Police Major Patrick Baja Dalamgin, chief of El Salvador City Police Office, said the local police despite their busy schedule managed to arrest a certain Maria Antonia Baybason, 36.

Dalamgin said Baybayon was arrested on September 1 for qualified theft with recommended bailbond of P20,000.

He said his men also arrested a certain Rogelio Ocampo Abadejos, a DIlisted personality.

Aside from Covid-19 free, all the 15 barangays of the city of El Salvador are declared drug-free.

NGO leads clean up drive in CdO river

CAGAYAN de Oro — A multi-sectoral group has bonded together to the call of clearing unwanted debris and garbage wastes along the banks of Cagayan de Oro River.

The group composed of well-meaning members of the Knights of Columbus Council 14370, Holy Cross de Nazarene, residents

of Balongis and Balulang, and River Star Aggregates owned and operated by Dr. Dondon Salingay, DM rolled up their sleeves together and collected more than 46 kilos of assorted wastes like plastics, cellophane, diapers, floor mats, cloth, candy wrappers among others.

Their joint community volunteer work of cleaning

up the river bank was in line with the global celebration of the International Clean Up Day done every third Sunday of September every year.

The surge of local transmission has been a cause of concern for the public health sector, Gonzales admitted. He explained there are two ways to approach this problem: pre-emptive and curative. Pre-emptive is about the information

campaign and risk communication while curative is the preparedness of hospitals and health facilities.

In terms of hospitals, Gonzales said they have expanded additional beds specific for COVID-19 at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), as the COVID referral hospital. Meanwhile, aside from NMMC all level 2 and 3 hospitals public and private hospitals are able to handle COVID patients, he added.

“Based on our regulatory guidelines, private hospitals need at least 10 percent of their bed capacity intended for No Balance Billing including COVID. Aside from that, we encourage them to increase even up to 30 percent of their current bed capacity,” he said.

Not all COVID infected have to be admitted to the hospital, Gonzales shared, only those admitted are with severe or critical cases particularly needing breathing tubes.

T H E intro duction of Learning Action C ell (LAC) is through DepEd Order 35, s. 2016 to provide an avenue for a professional learning community to happen, and to share strategies and techniques to improve practices in teaching across all learning areas.

For those who have been serving the Department of Education for a number of years, this is not new since even 2003, there already existed professional learning communities. However, the policy released in 2016 provided clear and thorough explanations on the conduct of LAC. In national, regional and divisional level trainings, specifically the trainings of the Early Language Literacy and Numeracy (ELLN) in all batches where I had a chance to participate, the conduct of LAC was discussed explicitly, and was presented through a demonstration teaching. In other words, for the many participants with more or less 50 teachers from every division per batch who witnessed how LAC is conducted, there is no question why

implementation would fail.

How does LAC differ from In-Service Trainings (INSET)? One LAC could be composed of five (5) to 15 members in order to have opportunities for sharing and discussions.

All members will have a chance to share the application of the learned strategies during the previous LAC meetings. Another good thing with few participants is the effective interaction between the LAC leader and members which leads to better learning and understanding of the topic introduced that day. LAC groups maybe by key stage, by grade level, or by learning area.

On the other hand, INSET has more in terms of participants, is longer in terms of duration like one day or two, with diverse participants and that happens anytime of the school year. Hence, no follow up is made for INSET, but the topic or topics in INSET can be thoroughly discussed in LAC for indepth and comprehensive understanding.

The school head will be able to determine if there is an application of what is learned during LAC session and the kind of technical assistance to be provided to the teacher.

It is only through better understanding of what and how to implement DepEd mandates that we can talk so much about. Happy LAC day.

DA supports 4ID-PA’s vegetable gardening via distribution of veggie seeds

AGAYAN DE ORO CITY – In its continuous campaign to ensure food sustainability, Department of Agriculture (DA) came up with the Plant, Plant, Plant Program (Agri 4Ps) also known as “Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Laban sa COVID-19” which aims to increase the country’s food adequacy level during this ongoing health emergency situation triggered by COVID-19.

The Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) through Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga handed over 2 packs of okra and 2 packs of eggplant seeds to TD Jones E. Betantos,

Intelligence Admin NCO of Headquarters and Headquarters Service Battalion, 4ID, PA stationed at Camp Edilberto Evangelista, this city on September 4.

TD Betantos said, they are supporting DA’s Agri 4Ps program through their Commanding Officer Noli P Kanashiro, LTC, INF (GSC), PA. “Our head of office has instructed the entire Philippine Army to support DA’s Plant, Plant, Plant Program through urban gardening insids our camp,” said Betanos.

He added, their team will benefit the seeds provided by DA that will provide them with food especially with the ongoing pandemic.

He further shared, each section inside their camp has devel-

oped a backyard vegetable garden, wherein they are required to submit activity reports including photo documentation on the plants’ development.

participated in by the different units and offices of the Command with an area of more or less 3,000 square meters to be planted with vegetables to ensure sufficient food

for frontliners in this trying times.

Transformative Cooperatives for Peace

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision,” this famous quote of Helen Keller, American author, political activist and lecturer is the truism of the life story of the 1st Lt. Jerome J. Jacuba PA who has lost sight during combat operations against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BI8FF) at Datu Salibo, Maguindanao on March 2, 2016. He lost his sight but he has seen the reality of the unseen that the way to end rebellion is not through guns or bullets but through COOPERATIVISM. While 1st Lt. Jacuba was recuperating in the VLuna Hospital, no less than the Commander-In-Chief, President Rodrigo Duterte visited him and embraced him with tears in his eyes.

Indeed, what greater love there is than a young brave soldier willing to give up his life so that others may live! Yes, he had lost his eyesight, but he can see and is now serving notice to one and all to stop the second longest war in the world – the Mindanao War. The 31-yr.old Jerome now oozes with a strong will and determination to bring peace in Mindanao thru

Last year, I toured him around Mindanao to touch base with Chieftains of the Indigenous People and in Marawi where he met former MILF combatants Here are some amazing stories on how peace is now unfolding in the land of the brave and the free.

In Camp Bilal, Kora-kora, Munai, Lanao del Norte, the 15,000 MILF combatants of the Northwestern Mindanao Front under Kumander Bravo (now Hon. Member of the Parliament Addullah Macapaar) with some 5 division commanders and hundreds of front commanders have recently organized themselves into some 150 cooperatives. They are now shouting, “MGA PAGARI AKON, SAMASAMA TANU SA KOOPERATIBA, ISA LANG ANG ARMAS NATIN NGAYON – KOOPERATIBA NA!” Kumander Bravo narrated to me how brave they faced some 100,000 AFP combatants when then President Joseph Estrada launched an all-out-war against them. While they

were only 15,000, but they controlled the “terrain,” the reason why they remained unconquered,.

They may have not yet surrendered, only decided to cease fire. Through their cooperatives, they are now passionately advancing cooperativism to fight the number one enemy of the country – poverty and social injustice. Kumander Bravo told me during my recent visit to Camp Bilal that despite the fact that they are living amidst the bounty of nature with thousands of hectares of coconut plantation but these are just bought at P5 per kilo.

That’s the paradox! While coconut is a billion dollar industry but the farmers are the poorest of the poor. To liberate them from poverty, the Cooperative Development Authority has submitted a budgetary proposal to establish Coconut Center in Munai, Lanao del Norte that includes establishment of Coco Processing Plants, i.e., coco sugar, coco quire, coco vinegar and coco oil.

PAPER MESS? Computers and phones have become the go-to notetaking method for many.

But your brain benefits from an old-fashioned pen and paper, says Hetty Roessingh, a professor of education at the University of Calgary.

Are you old-fashioned?

I am. Check out my office, and you might be shocked when you see my mess of papers all over the place.

Phone notes, new ideas for columns, conference notes, details from online meetings and so on and so on .

How about you my dear reader: do you pick up any old notebook and pen when you need them, or do you have a thing for Moleskines or Montblancs?

Let me quote Professor Roessingh again: "Whether or not you’re picky, know that tools for the hands are tools for the brain. Handwritten notes are a powerful tool for encrypting embodied cognition and in turn supporting the brain’s capacity for retrieval of information. And secondly, when you take notes by hand, your hands create a robust external memory storage: your notebook".

Roessingh really speaks to me from the soul.

Taking notes by hand is a win-win, and belongs in every student’s cognitive tool kit. Learning how to take notes by hand effectively, and how to ingrain note-taking as a key learning and study tool, can begin as early as grades 3 or 4, but it’s never too late to begin.

Yes Professor, I strongly agree, and I am no more ashamed about my messy office.

Of course, we live in a digital age where daily functioning involves digital communication. Automaticity in keyboarding is an important skill too, and the tools and applications for digital communication will continue to evolve and have their place. But keyboarding does not provide the tactile feedback to the brain that contact between pencil or pen and paper does — the key to creating the neurocircuitry in the hand-brain complex.

I am not sure if our laptops might seem faster and more efficient, but there are good reasons for having a paper-bound notebook and pen — any kind you prefer — at the ready. Or lots of notes somewhere placed at the office. And only I know where the notes are stuck.

Researchers have found that note-taking associated with keyboarding involves taking notes verbatim in a way that does not involve processing information, and so have called this “nongenerative” note-taking. By contrast, taking notes by hand involves cognitive engagement in summarising, paraphrasing, organising, concept and vocabulary mapping — in short, manipulating and transforming information that leads to deeper understanding.

Experts say taking notes by hand engages your brain in different ways, makes you interact with the material in different ways, and overall, deepens understanding.

An interesting quotation comes from Leonardo da Vinci, who wrote: “…the more minutely you describe, the more you will confuse the mind of the reader and the more you will remove him from knowledge of the thing described. PCOO rejects EU Parliament call to drop charges vs. Ressa

ANILA – A Palace official on Sunday rejected the call of European lawmakers for Philippine government to drop all charges against Rappler chief executive Maria Ressa, standing by the legitimacy of the criminal charges against her.

“We remain firm in our position on Ms. Maria Ressa and her unfounded allegations against President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his administration,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement.

Andanar made this remark after the European Parliament on Thursday (Sept. 17) approved a resolution urging the Philippine government to drop “politically motivated” charges against Ressa and former researcher Reynaldo Santos Jr. expressing alarm over the “deteriorating level of press freedom” in the country.

Taking care of our mental health in this time of pandemic

For many of us, work is a major part of our lives. It is where we spend much of our time, where we get our income and often where we make our friends.

Having a fulfilling job can be good for one’s mental health and general well-being. We all have times when we feel down, stressed or frightened. Most of the time those feelings pass, but sometimes they develop into a mental health problem like anxiety or depression, which can impact on our daily lives.

For some people, mental health problems become complex, and

require support and treatment for life. Factors like poverty, genetics, childhood trauma, discrimination, or ongoing physical illness make it more likely that we will develop mental health problems, but mental health problems can happen to anybody.

At work, we might notice that we are more tired than usual.

We might make uncharacteristic mistakes, find it hard to motivate ourselves, our timekeeping might slip, or we may be short tempered. We might look or feel very tired or drained. We might find we isolate ourselves, avoid

colleagues or appear distracted.

We might procrastinate more – or grind to a halt altogether. Or we might speed up or become chaotic, intruding into others’ conversations and work, and taking on more work than we can manage.

Awareness of mental health is increasing, but we still face a world where people with mental health problems face discrimination, and can face challenges getting the help they need. Many people who experience distress try to keep their feelings hidden because they are afraid of other

people’s responses.

Fear of discrimination and feelings of shame are among the top reasons people give for not telling their colleagues about their mental health problems.

When we create workplace cultures where people can be themselves, it is easier for people to speak about mental health concerns without fear, and easier for them to reach out for help when they need it. Even so, the decision to disclose distress at work is not one people take lightly. It is vital that workplaces become environments where people feel

safe to be themselves.

Especially now in this time of pandemic, where most of feel anxious and fearful of what is going to happen on us and to the world we live in. That is why, as teachers, we must check and re-check our mental health all the time and let us not forget ourselves on any process whether we get too busy with printing and sorting out our modules and to any other preparations we are undertaking right now. Always remember that your health, your mental health is important and that you are important.

European Chamber calls for retention of EU GSP+ for PH

ANILA – Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged the continued cooperation and bayanihan among cooperatives in the country as he recognized their role in development and nation-building.

“Cooperatives have become an important force in countryside development and nation-building. Not only have they contributed to the development of the sectors they represent but they have also encouraged the empowerment of their respective stakeholders and communities,” Go said during his speech at a Virtual Forum with Cooperative Leaders on Thursday.

“Mahalaga talaga ang mga kooperatiba dahil tinutulungan nito ang ating mga kababayan sa pamamagitan ng mga kaalaman at serbisyong teknikal at pinansyal na ibinabahagi nito... Magtulungan at magbayanihan po tayo para mas makarating ang ayuda at serbisyo ng gobyerno sa mas maraming Pilipino,” he added.

The senator enjoined the cooperatives to continue helping the country in any way they can.

We are willing to assist you to ensure that your donations will reach those who need help the most,” said Go. Due to the economic impacts of the pandemic, Go assured the cooperatives that the government will continue providing assistance to small businesses and vulnerable sectors through the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or Bayanihan 2.

Through the Bayanihan 2, Go also said that there will be a standby fund that will provide low-interest loans for workers and businesses affected by the pandemic coursed through various government financial institutions. He added that even cooperatives may avail such loans.

“Sa Bayanihan 2 Act, may allocation din for loans na kung saan maaaring ku-

muha ang mga kooperatiba para matulungan ang inyong mga beneficiaries (there is also an allocation for loans where cooperatives avail of to help their beneficiaries),” Go said.

“You may avail of these forms of assistance to strengthen your lending and loaning services in your communities,” he added.

Go also reiterated his call to cooperatives to utilize their Community Development Fund in order to contribute to the government’s efforts to fight the coronavirus disease and help their respective community members mitigate the socio-economic impact of the crisis.

“As I have mentioned before, I encourage the cooperatives to utilize the Community Development Fund to aid in our efforts to fight the pandemic,” Go said.

“This will also help your respective community members mitigate the impacts of the crisis on your stakeholders,” he added.

Meanwhile, Go expressed his full support for the endeavors of the country’s cooperatives through legislation.

“I will support, through legislation, the reforms that the Cooperative Development Authority would like to introduce in growing cooperatives, for us to attain sustainable growth,” Go said.

Reiterating good manners and right conduct among learners

Today, we see the decline of moral values around us. As a result of which we are facing problems like corruption, unemployment, violence, terrorism and hatred. At a time when the world is facing the destructive results of violence and hatred and people in general and youth in particular are fast turning to violence as a solution to all their problems, attempts are being made worldwide to inculcate the philosophy of non-violence, peace, truth and brotherhood which Mahatma Gandhi preached, in the minds of youth and thus channelize their hidden energy towards national integration and nation building.

Personally, I think the moral value among students has been declining and I agree with that. I’ve seen a lot of similar misbehavior over the years, especially with regard to cheating, bullying, escaping class and showing disrespect. Hearing foul language around the school is a relatively new problem, but I think it is mainly just coming from a handful of students.

What is disappointing is that almost every year the school has had as one of its two or three major concerns the idea of helping students

develop stronger good and moral values.

That is why it is very important to strengthen and intensify values education among learners of today at school. Although, it mainly and fundamentally starts at home, we should reaffirm it at school. Values education in another word can be describe as character education or moral education. It is an education where learners learn value from educators and implement them in future to lead a better life, the life of humanity where religion has no importance, the thing that value most is your character.

Values education starts from home and it continues throughout the life, but value education in schools plays a major part in a man’s life so it should be taught in each and every school to add values to the children for their better tomorrow.

The school is a model of the world so the goal of values-based education in school is to nourish the learners with moral values, virtues based on which their actions will reflect their behaviour.

So, by educating the children with value education, you are creating a better world for tomorrow to live in.

Mayor Isko Moreno backs DENR’s Manila Bay beach nourishment project M

ANILA – The city government of Manila expressed its full support to the national government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in its implementation of the Manila Bay beach nourishment project that includes the overlaying of “white sand” in the area.

Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso, in a press conference on Friday, said cleaning Manila Bay will entail a lot of costs, which is why the city government appreciates all the efforts of the DENR in cleaning the area.

“Natutuwa kami dahil (we are very happy because) they went beyond, to really

make more vibrant Manila, we support DENR,” Domagoso said.

Reacting to claims of some groups that the crushed dolomite boulders being overlayed along the Manila Bay beach is dangerous to the environment, Domagoso said that it is not for him to say the same and that he trusts that the DENR knows better on the issue.

There’s a dazzling array of laptops for sale these days, each with a list of specs that, to the average user, probably don’t mean an awful lot. There is no point in spending large amounts of money on a laptop that you don’t really need. To make sure you get the right device, there are some questions that you need to ask your-

First of all, what will you use the laptop for?

Someone who is using a laptop for word processing and the odd online class every week has vastly different needs than someone who will be using a laptop for computer aided design, heavy editing work or other power intensive uses.

Managing your time well can help you improve in your career. Organizing each day helps you to complete work on time, stay engaged during important meetings and give you space to be creative and proactive in your tasks. Having strong time-management skills can ultimately lead to accomplishing key goals and advancing in your position.

Staying organized can help you maintain a clear picture of what you need to complete and when. Being well-organized might mean maintaining an up-to-date calendar, being able to locate certain documents easily, having a tidy environment and taking detailed, diligent notes. Assessing each of your responsibilities for priority is key in being a good time manager. There are many ways to prioritize what you need to accomplish. You might decide to complete fast, simple items followed by longer, more involved ones. Alterna-

tively, you might prioritize your tasks starting with the most time-sensitive, or a combination of both.

Setting goals is the first step to becoming a good time manager. Goalsetting allows you to clearly understand your end goal and what exactly you need to prioritize to accomplish it.

Setting both short and long-term goals can lead to success in your career. Moreover, developing strong communication skills can allow you to make your plans and goals clear to people you work with. It also allows you to delegate, which lets you focus on completing the most important, relevant tasks that align with your goals.

A fundamental part of time management is planning. Being efficient in planning out your day, meetings and how you will accomplish things will help you stick to your schedule.

Being a good time manager means only completing work that will help you and your organization accomplish goals.

While this skill is most often done by managers, you can also practice delegating tasks if you are managing a project. While it can often be difficult to say “no” when someone asks you to do something at work, it is important to practice having boundaries to manage your time well and ultimately accomplish your goals.

Most of all, a friendly reminder to my fellow public servants that when practicing good time management, you should also be attentive to your mental health. Handling stress in a positive way can help you stay motivated and perform well when going through your schedule. You might do this by including small breaks throughout your day, or by rewarding yourself in small ways as you accomplish tasks.

Similar to time management, employees need the skill of being able to plan strategically. This means prioritizing your tasks in order of importance or planning out processes for the entire office to follow. Planning skills also come into play when arranging employee and executive calendars when unexpected cancellations or changes arise.

Strategic planning is important to an organization because it provides a sense of direction and outlines measurable goals. Strategic planning is a tool that is useful for guiding day-today decisions and also for evaluating progress and changing approaches when moving forward. In order to make the most of strategic planning, your company should give careful thought to the strategic objectives it outlines, and then back up these goals with realistic, thoroughly researched, quantifiable benchmarks for evaluat-

ing results.

People working in strategic planning need to be able to analyze and evaluate the organization's goals and plans. Only through an analytical eye can strategic planners decide what steps an organization needs to take.

A large part of a strategic planner’s job is communicating the organization's plan to the team. They have to explain (by both speaking and writing) the steps employees need to take to achieve organization's goals. Strategic planners also need to be active listeners. They have to listen to the needs of the employees before devising a plan of action. They also need to listen to the concerns and ideas of their peers and subordinates.

More so, strategic planning involves frequent decision making. Strategic planners must select a course of action to help the organization achieve its goals without constant doubts and

overthought. They need to be able to examine all of the information available to them and then confidently make a thoughtful decision.

More importantly, set target dates for reaching your goals. When you have identified simple actions that are progressive steps to achievement of the total goal, estimate how long it will take to accomplish each step.

You know how fast you and your team members work, how urgent the need is to complete the job, and what else those involved will be doing at the same time. Set a target date for each step, and you can determine when the work will be completed and the goal finally reached.

Thus, as a member of any organization, it is very significant that we shall plan strategically at all times so that any action or undertaking will then merit success as it has been planned consciously and logically.

DHSUD, TFBM chief welcomes more queries from CA members to settle issues

Del Rosario on Sunday said he welcomes more queries from lawmakers during the resumption of deliberations for his ad interim appointment next week as an opportunity to clarify issues and address the disinformation being peddled by some interest groups.

Secretary Del Rosario said he views the second round of Commission on Appointments deliberation as an opportunity to “finally clear the air” on several issues, particularly regarding his role as chairman of the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) and the progress of the rehabilitation.

“I thank our lawmakers

for giving me this opportunity to finally clear the air and focus on our pressing mandate of providing decent and affordable shelters and developing resilient and sustainable communities for the underprivileged and low-income Filipinos,” he also said.

Secretary Del Rosario added “with regards to Marawi, I reiterate that we will finish the rehabilitation of public infrastructures within the term of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

This is in compliance with the specific instruction of the President who said ‘I will see to it that Marawi will rise as a prosperous city again.’”

The TFBM chairman maintained that the massive rehabilitation of war-torn Marawi City is on track, citing the ongoing full-blast reconstruction works on at least 10 infrastructure

projects within the most affected area. Apart from this, social interventions like the provision of livelihood and financial assistance to the affected residents are continuing.

On the other hand, Secretary Del Rosario stressed that under the Duterte administration, government housing agencies have topped previous administrations’ annual production of housing units –building an average of more than 200,000 yearly from 2016 to 2019.

As teachers stand and serve as the second parents to our pupils, to our young learners, it is of much significance and importance as well that we should love and care and understand them as our own child, as our own family. And the most, it is one of the delivered thrust to the pupils that we should understand them, in that way, they will feel they are loved and given attention to.

However, it is not as easy as one, two and three as these learners have different upbringings, different orientations, different behaviors and attitudes and they came from different families; in short, these learners are unique and they embody different values and characters. A student’s individual learner characteristics will determine the way they respond to both formal and informal learning environments. By understanding learning styles, you can develop techniques and tools which cover the various learning styles of your students.

We all experience the world in unique ways, and with that comes variation in the ways we learn best. Understanding these different types of learning styles can drastically impact the way we teachers handle our learners, set up group projects and adapt individual learning. Without understanding and acknowledging these different ways of learning, teachers might end up with a handful of students lagging

behind their classmates—in part because their unique learning style hasn’t been activated.

Part of your responsibility as an educator is to adjust your lessons to the unique group of students you are working with at any given time. The best teachers can cater to each student’s strengths, ensuring they are truly grasping the information.

But, as the Department of Education’s vision of protecting and promoting the right of every Filipino learner and as it is a learner-centered

institution, as teachers, it can be of greatest trust that we should understand them, aside from providing them the quality education, we should as well make them achieve their fullest potentials.

Yes, it may not be easy but it is possible, it is fulfilling, it is rewarding. To see our pupils achieve their dreams and aspirations in life is of unfathomable happiness for us teachers. May all the pupils and learners achieve their dreams and may you all be better members of the society.

All types of communication are vital for this type of professional: oral communication for meetings and phone calls, writing capability for correspondence that needs to be sent internally and externally, and strong listening skills to follow instructions.

It's important for any administrative professional that they can communicate with various parties, such as clients, suppliers, colleagues and senior management which makes welldeveloped communication skills an absolute must-have competency. Commitment is a major part of workplace communication skills.

It simply measures one’s dedication and the degree to which one communicates surety in the argument. It convinces the prospects kindly. A well-committed

message will leave a greater impact and increase your morale.

Communication drives workplace success. Although the detriments of poorly communicating with others may not be apparent in the short term, it has a crippling effect on the workplace in the long-term.

Succeeding in your career requires good communication skills. You need to know what you want and how you are going to attain it. Being an excellent communicator can help propel your career.

The purpose of your message should be clear so that the reader doesn’t head up scratching his/ her head to understand what you mean. Be clear of what format do you want to say it in. Be clear about your goal or purpose. Your readers shouldn’t have to make assumptions regarding what you’re trying to say.

For example, the sentences should be short, prefer the active voice and state it in separate bulleted points.

Moreover, respecting what others have to say and acknowledging them is an important aspect of communication. Being respectful can be as simple as paying attention to what they have to say, using the person’s name, and not being distracted. By respecting others, the other person will feel appreciated, which will lead to a more honest and productive conversation. The choice of words matters when you are communicating at work. Your words shouldn’t leave your co-workers confused. You need to communicate your message in the least possible words, have the consistency of tone, voice, and content so that you can save time.

There is no room for repetition. Try to use short sentences and short words.

In Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, the Chieftain of the 10,000 Manobo Tribe by the name of Datu Arnold Acebedo who was known before as Kumander Datu Subang, former commander of the NPA did surrender, established the Greening School in Sibagat and is now frontlining cooperativism to protect the environment and to liberate the Manobo from the quagmire of poverty.

In Lingig, Surigao del Sur, the Indigenous People have organized themselves into the Manobo Cemulawanon Tribal Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Rajah Rabungsoan with thousands of members, 300 of whom were former members of the NPA. In a meeting with the Chairman, Datu Al Ban-

In situations where you disagree with what someone else has to say, whether it be with an employer, a co-worker, or a friend, it is important to sympathize with their point of view rather than simply try to get your message across.

Respect the opinion of others and never resort to demeaning those who do not agree with you. Being open-minded is such an important value to uphold in any working environment.

Being open-minded typically makes you more adaptable to a unique work environment and job. Employers usually want to hire someone they can mold into the type of em-

ployee who fits well in their organizational culture.

Open-minded employees are usually better equipped to cope with jobs and coworkers who are different than what they are used to.

This is especially important in the early 21st century, as workplaces become more diverse. Showing acceptance of different cultures, genders, races, ethnicity and ages makes it easier for the hiring manager to take a chance on you.

in order to think critically and rationally.

If you are not open to other ideas and perspectives, it is difficult to see all of the factors that contribute to problems or come up with effective solutions.

In an increasingly polarized world, being able to step outside your comfort zone and consider other perspectives and ideas is important.

An attitude of openmindedness is also strongly correlated to workplace flexibility. That's why as an employee, being openminded is a skill that one should foster for a smooth and better working relationship with your colleagues.

Handling and managing stress at the workplace

Schools and teachers are usually very good at thinking about the well-being of their pupils. We consider ourselves to have a duty of care to our pupils. We do not usually think about our own wellbeing – until it is too late and we are sick. People who take on caring roles are often not good at looking after themselves.

It is vital that we manage our own well-being, as we cannot manage pupils and learning if we cannot manage ourselves. Children come in every day to school and more or less do the same thing, sometimes having slightly better

or worse days. What makes the difference is the reaction of the adults around them. Taking time to manage your stress is essential in order to teach effectively and to help learners with their stress around learning.

Teachers are very hard workers, always trying to do things better.

When we are given tasks, we always try our best, we always try harder.

That is what teachers do. If our learners do not understand, we spend longer planning our lessons.

If we cannot finish our to-do list, we stay up longer to get through it. Sometimes we spend a lot of

time trying harder in the wrong direction. We find things which blatantly do not work, such as staying up late into the night to plan a lesson, which we are then too tired to teach properly, and then we do more of what does not work.

More so, we always want to stay strong. Teachers hate to let people down, which often means we go into work when we are sick, we don’t admit we are struggling with a class, we push our personal and family problems to the back of our mind. Again, this can be useful, we need to be reliable.

However, when we insist on always

being strong, we ignore our needs and the pressures build up inside us. That is why so many teachers get sick in the holidays. We need to know when to stop. When our body demands rest, let us rest and pause for a while.

Our minds tend to dwell on the negatives of the day - the classes we had problems with, the colleagues who do not agree with us.

Decide to train yourself to see the positives. At the end of each day, write down 6 highlights of the day. A highlight can be quite a small thing. Get into the habit of noticing what is working and do

more of that. Positive self-talk is vital. What would you say to your best friend if they were having a bad day? Would you tell them they were a useless, outdated teacher who couldn’t cope? Probably not.

And yet we often say these things to ourselves. Decide to talk to yourself as you would talk to your best friend.

Let us not let stress rule our lives, Let us fight for it and come out positive and healthy as ever.

Remember, there are also our loved ones who are longing for us and who are praying for our well-being every time.

Lignes boasted the fact that within the next five years or so, 19 regional offices of government line agencies will transfer their headquarters to El Salvador City to decongest the nearby regional capital of Cagayan de Oro. Lignes is also planning to put up a five-kilometer boulevard along the city’s coast that would run from barangays Molugan to Sinoloc.

El Salvador City is likewise taking care of its eco-tourism attraction, the 200-year-old macao tree.

To protect the natural landmark, the Lignes administration is currently planning to relocate squatting residents within the tree’s protective zone and plant more fauna around it.

The only way to keep the economy open is to keep workers healthy. To maintain that, he explained there is a need to expand testing to all sectors. Frontliners are not just in government but employees in the malls, bank, hotels, restaurants, among others. They need to be tested regularly to be

sure these industries are safe.

“We can’t do that right now because our capacity is not enough,” he explained.

One of the first things in any disease is to have a diagnosis. If an individual doesn’t have a diagnosis, he or she doesn’t have treatment. That is why the laboratory is very important, he shared.

Gonzales also urged those who have been exposed to COVID-19 positive or have had a travel history to high COVID-19 local transmission areas to speak honestly about their condition to the health workers.

“We should not b e ashamed of having COVID 19 because it is not our fault.

We do all the preventive measures, but there is still a chance that we can get the virus,” he said. Health workers don’t blame the patient.

“Just like with other diseases, HIV, TB with high stigma, we don’t blame the patient why he or she has the disease,” he said.

Exhibiting positive discipline in everyday teaching

As teachers stand as second parents to the learners at school, teachers have this parental supervisory among her or his students, thus, like parents, teachers also want nothing but the best for the students.

Positive discipline is an approach to teaching that helps children succeed, gives them the information they need to learn, and supports their development.

It respects children’s right to healthy development, protection from violence, and active participation in their learning.

Effective discipline is

positive and constructive.

According to the Primer for Teachers in Positive Discipline in Everyday Teaching, it basically involves setting goals for learning, and finding constructive solutions to challenging situations. With this, schools should respect children’s developmental levels, their rights to dignity, and their right to participate fully in their learning.

Moreover, the Positive Discipline in Everyday Teaching approach is based on sound pedagogical principles and practices as it is:

1) Holistic- it applies not only to student’s behavior but to all aspects of their learning and social interactions, 2) Strength-based- it identifies and builds on the student’s strengths, 3) Constructive- it is aimed at strengthening student’s self-esteem and self-confidence, 4) Inclusive- it recognizes and respects the diversity of all students, 5) Pro-active- it identifies the roots of behavioral and learning difficulties and implements strategies to promote success and avoid conflict, and 5) Participatory- it engages students in

the learning process and in the school community.

Positive discipline is about long-term solutions that develop learners’ own self-discipline and their life-long learning. It is about clear and consistent communication, and consistent reinforcement of your expectations, rules and limits. Positive discipline is about teaching nonviolence, empathy, selfrespect, human rights, and respect for others. Thus, teachers are very much encouraged to foster and better off impose positive discipline in their everyday

teaching.

Moreover, positive discipline must be inculcated in a way that the teachers can foster it well to the pupils. Teachers also must possess and better positive discipline among fellow teachers. Positive discipline greatly concludes respect and a harmonious relationship with others. As much as we advocate for positive discipline among pupils, all functionaries in the school must be equipped with it also as the academic success and the success of the pupils constitutes a unified effort.
