Former Rebels finish Mushroom Culture Training in Misor CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental -- 40 Former Rebels (FR) successfully finished the Mushroom Culture Training here on September 14, 2019.

The livelihood training was conducted by 58ib in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Glenalbee Mushrooms Farm incorporated.

The said training is one of the benefits that FRs can avail under the reintegration program. Further, the skill they acquired through this livelihood training will help them to start their own small-scale business for extra income to eradicate them from poverty.

BARMM local chief execs signifies commitment on moral governance

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur -- The local chief executives from the different provinces and municipalities of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) signified their support for moral governance.

The signing of the pledge of commitment towards moral governance capped the 3-day orientation and enhancement training on local legislation conducted by the Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILGBARMM) in Cotabato City.

Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim emphasized that there should be assurance that policies created are guided by the principles of moral governance.

But lashing out and hurting the other person just makes things worse and is the most damaging way to deal with our differences—including the lasting pain and problems through which we put our kids. We would have much happier lives if instead we simply admitted our faults and did what is needed in our marriage, parenting, and other relationships.

The first ingredient of successful relationships is communication. With no communication, you have no relationship. At the end of our life, some of our biggest regrets will be all the things we did not say to the ones we love. We so

often misunderstand and misread people. That is why we need to kindly tell each other how we truly feel and not pretend everything is fine. The sooner we open up and honestly talk about our real feelings, the sooner we will be happier and healthier.

A second ingredient we need for strong, happy relationships is acceptance.

Can you honestly say to people: “I accept you just as you are. You can make your own choices and mistakes, say what you really feel, and I will never reject you. I will always accept you even if I do not approve of the wrong things you do or say.” Do you have that kind of honest, unconditional love for others?

Dominguez raises need for SSS to hike income

MANILA -- Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III has underscored the need for state-run Social Security System (SSS) to “dramatically increase income” to lengthen its fund life and efficiently cater to its members.

In a speech read by Finance Assistant Secretary Antonio Lambino II during SSS’ 62nd anniversary celebration Thursday, Dominguez said authorities “need to institute better financial management and market engagement.”

“With the rapid expansion of our domestic economy and improved business outlook, the SSS should be able to improve its earnings from investments,” he said.

Last year, the pension fund that caters to workers from the private sector registered a 5.4-percent increase in revenues to PHP212.55

Dabawenyos may report suspected ASF cases to welfare desk

DAVAO CITY -- With the utmost threat of African swine fever (ASF), authorities here urged Dabawenyos to utilize the Animal Welfare Desk in various police precincts to report cases in connection to the disease.

Noel Provido, Department of Agriculture- Region 11 (DA-11) Regional Agri-Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS) chief, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Sunday that all concerns pertaining to ASF can now be reported especially cases of sick and dead pigs.

The first in the Philippines, the animal welfare desk was established in each police precinct in the city in July last year.

“It will address issues of animal violence in the city and eliminate the trade of dog meat, but this time, it would also cater reported cases in relevance to ASF,” Provido said.

He made the appeal in the wake of dozens of pigs found floating in Marikina River and a creek in Quezon City.

“It was utterly irresponsible on the part of the backyard raisers as they did not only violate current laws, but their misdoing also spread the disease pathogens much faster,” Dar said.

Dar said sick animals deserve proper care and adequate treatment. Should they eventually die, he said, there are strict protocols on how they should be disposed of.

IT is good that our legislators have already approved our budget for education this 2020 at the committee level and it is now being calendared at the Senate plenary.

The P551.72 billionproposed budget was increased by DepEd by 3.79 percent from 2019’s P531.57 billion. Also in the pipeline were the budgets for the Philippine High School for the Arts, National Council for Children’s Television, National Book Development Board, National Museum and Early Childhood Care and Development Council.

It was learned that DepEd also created a new office – the Office on Innovation and Futures Thinking for Education.

Futures thinking offsets

the short-term thinking in the public and private educational sectors. It looks beyond immediate constraints. It helps stakeholders remember that existing attitudes and frameworks, which often seem immutable and insurmountable in the short term, are ripe for change in the long term.

Thinking creates an environment for deeply informed decision making with a sustainable balance between short and long term policy goals, smoothing the transition toward a positive future.

FROM the start, bilingual education has always been the norm in the Philippines. Our Araling Panlipunan is in Filipino while the rest of the subjects in Basic Education are in English. Bilingual education is not unique to the Philippines though. Even in countries where English is the mother tongue such as the United States, they still use bilingual education.

From New York to Utah, US schools have seen a steady rise in bilingual education.

Dual language immersion programs first appeared in the US in the 1960s to serve the Spanish-speaking students in Florida. Since then, the demand surrounding these programs have been wide-

spread and they now address the needs of more than five million students who are English-language learners in the country’s public school system.

Bilingual education involves teaching academic content in two languages, in a native and secondary language, with varying amounts of each language used in accordance with the program model. In July 2009, DepEd moved toward mother-tongue based learning initially by issuing an order which allowed two alternative three-year bridging plans.

Depending on the bridging plan adopted, Filipino and English languages are to be phased in as the language of instruction beginning in the third and fourth grades.

Sadly, there are still people, some our own friends and families who would rather have us suffer in silence because they did. We have suffered in silence for ages. After all, we are the ones who endured pesky name callings while walking our streets.

So, just because someone else was hurt and living below dignity line doesn’t mean we should not allow others (us) to live their (our) lives fully within the extent of the law and within the sensible parameters set by a community. In fact anyone found living without dignity should fuel us to fight for their human dignity to be guaranteed.
