‘Simon’ appointed as acting BOC-10 head By MARK FRANCISCO Correspondent

JOHN Simon, the concurrent port collector of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in the Mindanao Container Terminal, has been appointed as the new officer-in-charge of the BOC Collection District 10 which oversees all collection ports in Northern Mindanao. Simon’s added assignment was issued by BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guererro and dated September 13, 2019. “This Order shall take

effect immediately and shall last until revoked,” read a portion of the one-page directive. Simon, sometimes described as a maverick bureaucrat inside the BOC, is known for his no-nonsense campaign to get rid of the misdeclared shipments of trash from South Korea, Australia and Hong Kong that found its way through the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental late last year and early this year. CAGAYAN de Oro City--The province of Misamis Oriental has remained free from African Swine Fever (ASF), provincial veterinarian said on Friday. As a proof, the provincial government of Misamis Oriental grilled on Friday at least 200 kilograms of pork to feed the public for free during the weekly farmers’ market held at the Misamis Oriental Capitol grounds. “Pork barbecue was served to the public and employees to prove that our pigs and pork meats are safe and are free from the African swine fever,” Dr. Benjamin Resma, the provincial veterinarian,

said. On Thursday, Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano issued an executive order banning pigs, pork products and by-products from entering the province, especially those coming from areas with ASF infestation. The executive order also activated a task force that will implement the ban including inspection and coordination with other government agencies to ensure no pigs and pork products from ASF-infected areas can enter Misamis Oriental and nearby provinces.
