CAGAYAN de Oro City-Northern Mindanao now ranks fourth in the country’s regional capital with a number of “cybercrimes” involving child cybersex cases in the country, Provincial Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano, of Misamis Oriental, said Tuesday. He said that the police regional command of the cybercrimes unit headed by Chief Inspector Ignacio Gamba has called to his office to report about the “cybercrime” cases in Misamis Oriental and in Northern Mindanao. Aside from child cybersex cases, “sextortion” and identity thief have also been reported in Northern Mindanao, Emano said He said that during the briefing, Gamba also discussed about “identity and private account thief,” which are usually applied through doubtful links and illegal “skimming,” particularly the illegal and unauthorized withdrawal of deposited money through the bank’s automated machines. CAGAYAN de Oro City-Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Central Bank collaged a peddler of “counterfeit” Philippine Currency amounting to P 161,700 during a “buy bust” operation here, the NBI said Tuesday. Lawer Alex Cabornay, the NBI head agent, who led the buy bust operation identified the lone suspect as Charlie L. Quintana, 36, of Ilaya, Carmen, Cagayan De Oro City. He said that a joint operation of the NBI in Northern Mindanao and CB agents from Manila conducted the buy bust operation along Claro M. Recto in Lapasan, this city, Friday afternoon. Cabornay said that an NBI asset posed as a buyer of the counterfeit Philippine currency, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect. Recovered from the suspect was 74 pieces of counterfeit P 1,000 bills totaling P 74,000, 158 pieces of fake P 500 bills, which totaled P 79,000 and 87 pieces of fake P 100 bills amounting to P 8, 700, or a combined total of P 161,700 fake peso bills.
