Ayala debunks allegations made by Laguindingan farmers

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Bislig City mayor Librado Navarro has denied Wednesday he is behind the death of a radio commentator who was gunned down in his city on Tuesday

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur--Slain Bislig City hard-hitting broadcaster Christopher Lozada already saw it coming after he received numerous death threats from his mobile phone, a police report said. CATHOLIC Church officials called on the faithful to remain vigilant despite the government’s declaration that Marawi City is free from terrorists. Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the PhilippinesEpiscopal Commission on the Laity (CBCP-ECL) Chairman Bishop Broderick Pabillo said the fight against the extremists are not only with the Maute group but other groups who out to spread evil. “Yes (the people should remain vigilant). end of terrorism in the country,” he said. Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte announced the liberation of Marawi City following of Hapilon and Maute in clashes with government forces. The city was the battleground of the conflict between government forces and Maute group that started in May. CAGAYAN de Oro City-Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano recently conferred with Cebu Pacific CEO Lance Gokongwei over the weekend and asked him to change the landing spiel of the airline’s flight attendants upon landing at Laguindingan airport.

Another broadcaster was shot dead in Bislig City in Surigao Del Sur Tuesday night. Christopher Lozada, a hard-hitting commentator of the Prime Broadcasting Network, was driving his car on his way home together with his live-in partner when waylaid by unidentified gunmen who were on board on an unidentified van. Lozada was fatally hit while his companion, a certain Honey Faith Tuyco Indog, was rushed to a nearby hospital in the city. At least, she survived. However, an investigation is still going on the possible motive of the Lozada killing. While it is known that the broadcaster was hard-hitting, there could be some other reasons for the killing apart from his being a broadcaster. Nevertheless, the entire media industry, especially the working media in the print and the broadcast, condemned in its toughest possible term the killing of Lozada as an act of cowardice in the highest order. The mastermind of the Lozada killing shows a disturbed mind and spirit. An evil mind that could not withstand the pounding voice of the microphone.

We hope that justice could be served to Lozada and his family. It is also hoped that the death of Lozada would serve as an inspiration that would encourage the broadcast and the print media to pursue the truth and expose the evils of the system. THINK a minute. Guiseppe’s Papa came from a family of fishermen. In fact, for 300 years the men in his family had been fishermen in the country of Sicily. His Papa eventually moved to San Francisco where he continued their fishing business. Eventually they had 9 children. All the boys from the time they could walk helped Papa on his fishing boat. All the sons, except Guiseppe! Guiseppe simply could not go because he got so terribly seasick. His stomach just could not take the motion of the boat, or the strong smell of fish. But even when his dad saw how sick Guiseppe

got on the boat, he did not accept it. He always told his son Guiseppe that he was good-for-nothing. Guiseppe was very hurt by his father always criticizing and putting him down. But he still tried his best to help his family in some way. So as a young boy he went out on the streets and worked every job he could find to bring money back to his father. But instead of his Papa being proud of his hard-working son, he kept telling Guiseppe he was lazy and good-for-nothing. Finally, Guiseppe just gave up on ever pleasing his dad. He got involved in sports and discovered that he was a very talented, natural ath-

lete, especially in baseball. In fact, he became the most successful son in his whole family. That young boy whom his Papa had always called good-for-nothing, became one of the greatest professional baseball players in history. You may have even heard of Guiseppe by his American name, Guiseppe… Joe…DiMaggio. You see, Guiseppe Joe Dimaggio refused to believe all the bad things his dad said about him. He never stopped trying until he finally found his special abilities. So even if your own family has told you that you’ll never be successful and that you’re good-for-nothing,

To ensure that the nutritional status of the vulnerable groups do not worsen or deteriorate due to the impact of Marawi crisis, the Regional Nutrition Council (RNC)-10 steps up their health campaign and services to the evacuation centers in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte and some areas of Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). As of October 11, 2017, there are 2,979 internally displaced

persons (IDPs) in evacuation centers with 11,036 individuals and 20,016 home-based IDP families or 90,067 individuals. that they are currently handling the assessment of the nutritional and health needs of such affected populations, provision of essential micronutrients, management of acute malnutrition, protection, promotion and support of infant and young child feeding, and provision of other food and non-food based interventions. As for the services and interventions, the Department of Health (DOH) spearheaded the provision of vitamin A to 11,858 IDPs, zinc, ferrous sulfate,

micronutrient powder, vitamin supplementation, “Egg a Day” to 228,557 recipients, supplementary feeding to 37,033 IDPs in partnership with the Modern Nanays of Mindanao (MNM) and Nutritionist-Dietitians Association of the Philippines (NDAP), and counseling for health and nutrition together with the Moropreneur Inc. and other non-government organizations (NGOs). To further aid in the nutritional needs of the IDPs, Tababa said that the council still needs to closely monitor moderate

acute malnutrition (MAM) and severe acute malnutrition (SAM) of EC and HB IDPs. The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) should also follow-up the screening of Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC)- measure of muscle wasting, and referral of SAM cases. Tababa also stressed that there is still a need for re-assessment through weighing and height taking after one month if the IDPs are still housed in ECs, sustained advocacy

ASEAN ministers launches Direct Communications Infrastructure T

he Direct Communications Infrastructure was launched this afternoon at the closing of the 4th ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)-Plus. “An initiative of Brunei Darussalam, it allows Defense Ministers across the Southeast Asian region to communicate rapidly and orderly with each order through a secured hotline,” ASEAN said in a statement. The objectives are to prevent and diffuse misunderstandings and misinterpretations and therefore prevent unnecessary escalations. It also seeks to promote quick response cooperation among the ASEAN member-states. After the launching, the Philippines handed over the chairmanship of the ADMM to Singapore. “Singapore will build upon the good work of the Philippines and previous chairs,” Singapore Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen said. Established in 2006, ADMM is the highest defense consultative and cooperative mechanism in the ASEAN. DAR chief cites contributions of rural development experts By Saul Pa-a

Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) officer-incharge Secretary Rosalina Bistoyong on Wednesday hailed the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) for playing a vital role in spurring rural development in the region. Speaking at the “Agribusiness Forum” held at the Hotel Jen in Pasay City, Bistoyong said the regional organization has become a platform for sharing knowledge, diverse experiences and innovative practices that each of the 15 member countries could adopt to enhance their agriculturebased business enterprises. “As entrepreneurs, small farmers and fisherfolk can create greater economic activities, which reinforce our belief that agribusiness

indeed plays an integral role in pursuit of sustainable rural development,” she said. CIRDAP is a regional cooperation that acts as a servicing institution for its member states; encourages joint collective activities to benefit the member countries, both individually and collectively; and addresses poverty alleviation through people’s participation in the development process. It is slated to convene its 21st Governing Council Meeting on Friday (Oct. 13) at Hotel Jen following the opening rites. Bistoyong also urged that a more concerted and mutual collaboration and cooperation between and among CIRDAP member countries is needed to make it happen.

She also disclosed the country’s blueprint to attain food security, leading up to driving the country towards industrial development under the Comprehensive National Industrial Strategy (CNIS). Bistoyong presented the CNIS, wherein the country has embarked on “an ambitious plan of becoming a regional manufacturing, service and agribusiness hub starting 2022”. The DAR chief also noted CIRDAP’s vital role to attain the “ambitious undertaking” as it contributes to understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses through sharing of knowledge and diverse experiences and practices. Senator Cynthia A. Villar, speaking through her Chief of Staff lawyer Reggie Tamana, also offered a twofold strategy to enhance

the agricultural sector’s global competitiveness in line with the economic reintegration under the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Economic Community or AEC. “First, we need to ensure long-term food security, and second, improve the livelihood of small farmers and fisherfolk in Asia and the Pacific through agribusiness enterprises,” she said in a statement. Villar, who also chairs the Upper House’s Committee on Agriculture and Food, stressed that “food security is the priority agenda if we are to meet the challenges of the growing global population.” The senator underscored that food security is a multidimensional concept that encompasses agricultural production, trade, income,

food quality, clean water, sanitation, governance and political stability. admitted that while his project proposal was approved in the House of Representatives, it was snagged in the Senate owing to Congress’ adjournment. It was taken up and approved in the Upper House the following year, and finally implemented.

According to BFARCaraga, there were actually 200 beneficiaries to the 100 fishing boats or two fishermen were awarded for each boat. This was to prevent the boats to be sold or pawned which BFAR said was not allowed.

If the SSS is able to generate so much money year in and year out, it is not because of the efforts of its executives.
