CdeO is 7th Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City in PH CAGAYAN de Oro has been ranked as the 7th Most Competitive City in the Philippines in the Highly Urbanized City Category. The latest rankings were announced during the 7th Regional Competitiveness Summit held 24 October 2019, at the Reception Hall, Philippine International Convention Center. The Department of Trade
and Industry, through its Competitiveness Bureau recognized LGUs with exemplary performance in the four pillars of the index – Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure and Resiliency. Cagayan de Oro ranked #2 in Resiliency, #6 in Government Efficiency and #10 in Infrastructure and Economic Dynamism.
A total of 1,518 LGUs participated in this initiative and awards were given to LGUs in four categories: 3rd to 6th Class Municipalities, 1st to 2nd Class Municipalities, Component Cities, and Highly Urbanized Cities. Awards for the Most Competitive Province and Most Improved City and Municipality will also be conferred this year. (rmb)

DAVAO C IT Y - - The PHP120-million Philippine Genome Center Mindanao Satellite Facility (PGC-MSF) built in this city is expected to be operational within the year. Dr. Anthony Sales, regional director of the Department of Science and Technology in Region 11 (DOST 11), in a press briefing Wednesday, said that the facility is housed at the UP Mindanao compound in Bago Oshiro’s Research, Extension and Development building. “The fund allocation covers the cost of the build-
ing and state-of-the-art equipment,” he said. Sales said the facility will cover research and development and also extends services to prospective clients, with focus on applications for agriculture and biodiversity conservation. “With Mindanao as the food basket of the country, we want to assess problems affecting agriculture and other related areas particularly on diseases,” he said.
