FBI confirms Hapilon is dead THE United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, the alleged “Emir” of the Islamic State in Southeast Asia is dead.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana announced the FBI’s confirmation in a press statement released Saturday.

Distribution of PhilHealth cards to serve as bakwits’ ID document set for Oct. 24

ARAWIresidents displ ac e d by the war w i l l soon receive Philhealth cards to serve as their identification documents, as they prepare to return home.

“The primary objective of the project is to provide identification documents to the Marawi IDPs (internally displaced persons) most of whom left their identification documents in their haste to flee their homes,” the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a media advisory.

Evacuees (IDPs, also known as ‘bakwits’) in Pantao Ragat town in Lanao del Norte who filled out and submitted their PhilHealth Membership Regirstration Form (PMRF) form on October 19 to 23 will receive their cards on Tuesday, October 24, at the municipal town hall there.

The UNHCR said that during its Protection Monitoring visits, evacuees expressed their need to have ID cards, citing restriction

on their movement which also prevents them from seeking livelihood and employment. They also expressed fear of being arbitrarily arrested and detained.

“It is in this respect that PhilHealth was engaged to issue identification cards to member and qualified non-memb er IDPs. The cards shall serve as documents proving their identity and shall address restriction to their mobility which prevents them from seeking livelihood and employment,” the UNHCR said.

were asked to file their applications at the town hall with the assistance of PhilHealth representatives and UNHCR staff and volunteers.

Vo l u n t e e r s w e r e also mobilized to visit evacuation centers in Pantao R agat from October 20 to 23 to assist evacuees who were unable to attend the community preparation, in filing their application forms.

Wh i l e c omp l e t i n g their forms, evacuees are asked if they would like to register to an SMS broadcast service powered

by SMART that provides information to evacuees and also for the government and humanitarian actors to effectively disseminate information they want to share with the displaced population.

The service also aims to offer a mechanism for evacuees to raise any concerns they have regarding t heir displacement through a phone number where they could send their queries

That is why at this point, the blessings t h at c o m e f ro m t r u e faith in God seems to have vanished from our countr y and from our people. Poverty and difficult lives have afflicted many, our day-to-day activities are filled with discord and dissension, and we have become a nation of frustrated individuals whose dreams and prayers are no longer realized or answered in any way.

-ooo HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO THE PHILIPPINES? How did this kind of an accursed life come to our country? The truth is t hat , as stu d i e s by t h e S i mb a h ang A n a k n g D i y o s K a d u g o Ni Kristo (or AND KNK, t h e C h i l d re n of G o d Blood Kin of the Christ Church) will show, we are living a life full of curses, and continue to do so, because most of our countrymen already strayed away, much too far away, from God and His commands.

Because we have shied away from the practices that each and every true believer or follower of Christ must be practicing, like daily reading of the Bible (for Christians), medit ating on what we read from the B i b l e d ay a n d n i g ht ,

and carefully obey ever ything that the Bible is commanding us to, the curses that God promised to those who have turned their backs on Him, written in the Bible, are now with us.

Many of us are now sporting fake or spurious faith in Go d. We are now guilty of doing precisely what was proscribed by the Bible--that our faith is merely manifested in our lips, but not in our hearts.

We claim that we pray and have faith in God, but we do not even know the things that true believers must be doing or manifesting in their lives.

THINK a minute.

A FAMOUS man and woman who were neighbors were always arguing.

They just could not get along with each other. One day the woman said to the man: “Sir, if you were my husband, I’d give you poison!” The man quickly answered: “Madam, if you were my wife, I’d take it!”

You know, the greatest problems in the world always have been and always will be problems between people. Just look at our own family and extended family.

Is everyone getting along all the time? How about in your village or neighborhood, your school, or your workplace?

Did you know that the

beautiful ‘paradise’ islands of the Pacific have some of the highest suicide rates in the world? But why?

Because there is no peace in paradise! Instead, there are walls of hurt and hate built up between people: between parents and children, between husbands and wives, between different races and cultures.

All over the world there is trouble and problems between people! Many people are hurting, hoping someday to finally have real peace.

But even if everyone was given lots of money and a high-paying job, the best education, and a great government, we’d still have problems be-

cause of the walls between people—walls of pride and prejudice, walls of hurt, mistrust, jealousy, and unforgiveness. And it’s into this kind of world with this big problem that God the Son came to bring peace, and tear down these walls between people. But before we can have real peace and truly love without conditions our children, our wife or husband, our neighbors, as well as people of other races and cultures, we ourselves must first be loved that way by someone else and experience that kind of love.

That’s exactly what Jesus Christ came to do: to love us. He came to accept and forgive us for all our

wrongs, so we could finally be reunited in true peace with our Maker.

You see, it’s only then that we can also live in peace with the other people in our life. So today, won’t you ask Jesus to forgive you for all your wrongs and to take charge of your heart everyday? For lack of time, here are my open forum inputs in the Department of Health’s (DOH) Task Force on Return to Marawi Planning held yesterday.

After that fateful day May 23 when Government had no forced evacuation plan, thank you for this return plan (to nine barangays in the safe areas involving at least 5,000 families), thank you for the preparations and readiness. A belated thank you to a l l your work and efforts, we thank the soldiers who have departed Marawi, saw their fellows perish.

We urge this process b e c iv i l i an - l e d w it h out d is c ou nt i ng A F P (Armed Forces of the Philippines) leadership on the ground as Joint Task Force Ranaw continues to manage martial law. Let civilians work this time, on all governance needs so we go back to normalcy and our lives while noting the need for bayanihan for the rest of the war zone evacuees.

Cops raid SK DPWH targets to finish vice mayor’s Marawi housing by November house, seize guns ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat -- Police in Sultan Kudarat arrested Friday the vice mayor of Palimbang town and seized high-powered guns during a raid.

Raul Supiter, Sultan Kudarat police, said joint elements from the provincial police off i c e and t he R e g i on a l Public Safety Battalion and SK Provincial Public Safety Battalion carried out t he ar rest of Vice Mayor Haron Sabiwang, 57, in his home in Barangay Medol at around 6 a.m. Friday.

The arresting team, headed by Sr. Supt. Michael Lebanan and Supt.

Salman Sapal, served the search warrant of arrest against the official.

Seized from Sabiwang’s home were one homemade grenade launcher, one M203 ammunition and a .45 caliber pistol.

“The vice mayor did not resist arrest,” Supiter said, adding that the guns seized were unlicensed.

Sabiwang was believed to be maintaining a pri-

vate armed group. Also ar reste d in a s ep arate raid in Barangay Badiangon, also in Palimbang, were Abubakar Abdullah and Ab du l la h Saddam for possession of unlicensed firearms. Seized from them were two .45 caliber pistols.

Supiter said Abdullah has a pending warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives Act. The raid on the vice mayor’s house was conducted a week after the Su lt an Kud ar at p ol ice raided the house of Palimbang Mayor Abubakar Mau l ana and s e ize d a fragmentation grenade and an M14 rif le with ammunition.

The police, armed with search warrants, failed to find the mayor, as he was believed to have been tipped off about the raid.

Earlier this week, police also raided the house of Z a hara Mau l ana in Barangay Labangal, Gen. S anto s C it y on suspi cion she had unlicensed guns but no firearms were found. (PNA)

HE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is working double time to complete site development works where the first batch of transitory houses will be built for Marawi siege evacuees numbering to over 1,000 families.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said they are looking to finish the works next month.

“The area being developed by DPWH in Barangay Sagongsongan, Marawi City, can accommodate 1,100 families. We are doing everything we can to finish it

by November ,” he said in a statement.

A total of PHP241.69 million is allocated for the land development of Sagonsongan Village.

This will cover the clearing and grubbing, fuel and model house cost amounting to PHP20.64 million and the asphalt overlay and drainage works within five initial areas of the site worth PHP142.6 million and additional four hectares and two hectares sites proposed

by Marawi City officials in the amount of PHP51.9 million and PHP26.5 million respectively.

“Currently, we are preparing a portion of the site

where the National Housing Authority (NHA) can build a total of 275 transitory houses,” added Villar.

He noted that once the development works are finished, it would be followed immediately by the building of transitory shelters for Marawi evacuees.

“Once the sites are developed, NHA may begin the construction stage of the needed transitory shelters of Marawi siege internallydisplaced persons (IDPs),” Villar explained.

He reported that the Post-Conflict Needs Assessment Team had been

deployed in Marawi to assess damages of infrastructure and road networks in the area.

He is also desirous of correcting the entry as to avoid confusion and future inconvenience it may cause.

Cebu Pacific flies 150 Millionth passenger The Philippines’ leading airline, Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB) marked another milestone as it flew its 150 millionth passenger since starting operations in 1996.

The 150 millionth passenger was identified as Mr. Alfredo Cruz, who boarded Cebu Pacific flight 5J 397

from Manila to Cagayan de Oro on October 20, 2017.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Northern Mindanao Medical Center, the city’s oldest hospital, celebrated its centennial last October 1.

To celebrate, the hospital management unveiled a wall last October 20 depicting a photo of the new NMMC that serves as a centennial marker.

Housed in a building of mixed materials with a nipa roof, the Misamis Public Hospital opened on October 1, 1917 in the district of Carmen, Cagayan, Misamis Province. It had a general ward and a private room and was equipped with a laboratory capable of performing basic tests. Initial hospital staff consisted of one supervising physician, one resident physician,

one superintendent and property clerk, two nurses, one midwife, two ward attendants and one cook.

It underwent several name changes – Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital (1929) and Northern Mindanao Regional Training Hospital (1966) until it settled to becoming NMMC in 199.

Fast forward to 2017 under the leadership of hospital chief Dr. Jose Chan, NMMC continues its tradition of service to the people of Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Region 10 and beyond.

“In fact, some of them did,” Brawner said, but could not give a number as they are still determining “if they are (hostage survivors) or wives of the Maute-ISIS.” He said those who got out will be treated as non-combatants and will go through the same process hostage survivors go through.

Brawner assured relatives of the hostage survivors that their loved ones are being attended to. He said the survivors immediately go through medical examination and those who need further medical attention are airlifted to Cagayan de Oro City.

He said survivors were lent mobile phones to call their relatives. Brawner added the hostages requested that their names be withheld for security considerations.

He assured relatives they will turn the hostage survivors to the local goverment unit “very shortly.”
