CAGAYAN de Oro City-San Simon barangay officials last Tuesday reported a massive Tilapi fishkill along Iponan river. During the regular meeting of the City Council committee on the environment, San Simon Barangay Chair Rodolfo Nacario claimed that they have observed tilapia fishkill in the river bank for the past few months. In 2015, the city government embarked on a massive tilapia growing in Iponan river, releasing a total of 92,000 fingerlings. Those tilapia have been fished and spawned since then. It was only last Tuesday that Nacario broke the report on the alleged fishkill. Nacario said that the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) have yet to check on the situation.
