CAGAYAN de Oro City--A police official yesterday said the offense of a local disaster official in Misamis Oriental who was arrested for alleged possession of illegal drugs is bailable. Senior Insp. Gilbert Rollen, head of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), said that the Misamis Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer II Vergil Lago only had 0.36 grams of shabu in his possession when police swooped down on him. According to the blotter at CDEU, Lago was allegedly caught in the act with one unsealed sachet and another sealed sachet containing shabu, four used aluminum foils, four unused foils and three lighters when police raided the room that he rented at Wilshire Inn along Apolinar Velez Street, this city, last Tuesday morning. Rollen said they arrested Lago following the report of an informant, who said a tenant staying at the hotel Senator JV Ejercito conveys his message of gratitude during his visit at Barangay Sto. Nino, Bayugan City.

CAGAYAN de Oro City-The police regional office has reminded owners of guns to renew their firearms to avoid being charged with illegal possession of firearms. Chief Insp. Roger Albacete, chief of the Region Civil Security Unit (RCSU) of the Philippine National Police in Region 10 (PNP10), said now is the best time for gun owners to renew their firearms. In Northern Mindanao, the number of firearms that are yet to be renewed had gone down from 31,648 to 24,432 as of September of this year, he said. The RCSU cannot give the exact number of registered gun owners in the region, but Albacete said most of them possess at least one short firearm. “Many of them (gun owners) use firearms for shooting competitions only,” he said, adding that since Mindanao is under the martial rule, it would See fireamrs, page 11
Mindanao railway to benefit farmers in remote areas: JV By CHRIS V. PANGANIBAN Contributing Editor
BAYUGAN City--Senator JV Ejercito said the much awaited multi-billion pesos Mindanao Railway Network project, which implementation starts next year would surely benefit villagers in
the far-flung areas of this province. The pro administration lawmaker made this assurance during his recent visit to Barangay Sto. Niño of this city , a far-flung mountain village, with the invitation of Governor Adolph Edward
Plaza to celebrate the festivities of the residents. “I am very glad and elated to learn that I am the first Senator to visit Barangay Sto. Nino here in Bayugan City. With the construction of the Mindanao railway system, the least benefited
citizen here will have the opportunity to develop because it will be much easier to transport your products from one point in Mindanao to another point riding on a train,” Ejercito said. With the realization of See benefit, page 11
