Iligan CHO expands TB-DOTS services

HE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Region 10 (LTFRB-10) has started distributing cash assistance to operators of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) in Northern Mindanao under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act II, otherwise known as Republic Act (RA) 11494.

LTFRB-10 Regional Director Allan Guro said PUV drivers all over Northern Mindanao will receive P6,500 cash assistance. Guro said the government has allotted 1,161,114.210 billion under the Bayanihan

Destroyed drugs by PDEA-10 in Normin in 2020 now at P23M

AGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Illegal drugs that were destroyed by the Phil. Drug Enforcement Agency-10 (PDEA-10) for this year has so far reached more than P23 million.

On Thursday, PDEA-10 has destroyed P2.4 worth of illegal drugs at a local crematorium in Barangay Bulua here. The disposed illegal substances, composed of 368 grams of “shabu” or cr ystal meth and more than 45 grams of marijuana fruiting tops, were used as evidence in 286 drug cases all over the region from 2014 to this year. Benjamin Recites III, PDEA-10 assistant regional director, said this was the second time the agency has destroyed illegal drugs for this year. On Oct. 15, 2020, PDEA-10 cremated shabu, weighing more than three kilograms, and marijuana with estimated street value of P20.7 million. Recites has noted that with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the volume of illegal drugs being circulated has decreased, but added PDEA-10 has been consistent in its surveillance and anti-drug

operations. Just last month, PDEA10 agents arrested four persons and confiscated one kilogram of shabu with an estimated worth of P6.8 million in Kapatagan town, Lanao del Norte. Recites said they were able to confirm that most of the illegal drugs, especially shabu, that entered Northern Mindanao, come from Metro Manila by boat. “Before being distributed in the region, the illegal drugs pass through Cagayan de Oro. Because it is an urban center with many borders, drugs can easily enter in Cagayan de Oro,” he said. It can be recalled that Wilkins Villanueva, former PDEA-10 regional director and now directorgeneral, has warned those engaged in illegal drug trading that although he has been promoted to a higher post, he is still keeping an eye on the narcotics dealers in Northern Mindanao.

Agusan Norte gets isolation tents from DDB

BUTUAN CITY – The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) on Friday turned over 20 isolation tents to the provincial government of Agusan del Norte to boost efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the province. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management C ouncil (PDRRMC) of Agusan del Norte said the isolation tents were sent by Usec.

Their so-called fight for equality and rights has become an emerging challenge such that many were blinded by their sharp tongues and glib language. In fact, they have been playing a confusing role in Congress at the expense of taxpayers’ money

In a country with too much democratic space, there seems no stopping in propagating their alibis, lies and disguises to mislead the public particularly the vulnerable youth. Indeed the remaining of 2020 days are becoming more and more exciting we get nearer to the 2022 national elections. A l s o h i g h ly no ticeable these days of lockdowns are the rise of pseudo businesses and investment scams hopelessly devoted to fill in their

empty stomachs. The modus is hard sell given their shady deals of doing business. Closely monitored as well are the great pretenders in the bureaucracy, plying their wares of deception and lies to amass easy money and fake glory. Cooperativism: Empowerment of the poor and vulnerable

Poverty amidst plenty? Why?? No question about is as stated by Dr. Kent Carpenter, President of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (UN-FAO), “the Philippines is so rich ecologically.” Per unit area, the Philippines abounds with so much flora and fauna which are only endemic in the country. Would you believe that in a 5,000-hectare. Mt. Kitanglad Range the number of flora and fauna is far greater in number compared to those found in one billionhectare continent of North America? Indeed above the ground our country oozes with tremendous ecological wealth in terms of biodiversity; and beneath are minerals, about 42 kinds – i.e., gold, silver, bronze, copper, iron, manganese, etc, that’s how rich we are. But the wealth does not end at the shorelines. The Philippine Archipelago has been described as the “the center of the center of marine life on earth.” But who controls? Who decides? Who benefits? Before, the colonizers were the ones who controlled. Today, the neo-colonizers! After losing all the 17 million of dipterocarp forest and with it, the billions of life forms that are now extinct. We have lost our watersheds as some 15 of the 25 major rivers are already dried-up or polluted. We

have also lost our minerals that have been the subject of so much extraction by foreign miners. Our marine and fishery resources are now all gone. Of the 13 major bays in the country, 10 are already biologically dead, to the detriment of our coastal communities who are becoming the poorest of the poor. Everything has been lost because of what you call “development aggressions! Even the lands of the Indigenous Peoples have been taken from them and have been transformed into massive plantations to satisfy the consumerist lifestyle of the people in the Northern Countries while we cannot even satisfy our basic staples like rice and milk. Let there be no mistake on the very essence of cooperativism that we are now advancing otherwise we are no better than the neo-liberal capitalists whose development paradigm can be likened to the workings of an auto-immune disease syndrome (AIDS), where no less than the body’s defense mechanisms are attacking the vital organs. Let notice be served to one and all that we in the cooperative movement are firmly adhering to the United Nations’ definition as the full development of human potentials, the expansion of choices and opportunities. velopment to be so, it must pass a three-way test: First, is it ecologically sustainable? This means it does not harm the environment but instead nurtures it; Second, does it benefit the people? This means, responsive to their needs; and Third, does it have people’s participation? Unless all of the three criteria are satisfied, no development can take place, only mal-development or development aggressions! It is quite puzzling that so much has been said about development, yet, we have totally destroyed the ecosystems and left the ecological people wallowing in poverty. It is even a glaring paradox that we talk of agricultural development, yet, our country is still not self-sufficient even on basic staples like rice and milk. Yes, everyone is profiting from farming except the farmers. The IMF-World Bank spoke of development before, toppling down the forest to give way to Chico River Dam in the Mountain Province despite the serious resistance from the Ifugaos led by Macliing Dulag. So far, 24 kilometers have been completed for the last 9 years starting in 2012 until 2020 and five (5) kms more is slated to be built in the next two years (2021 & 2022). “ T he proj e c t is b e ing completed in phases an d we h ave s e e n t h e improvements so far in terms of flood prevention and traffic flow in t h e r i v e r d r i v e a re a s . CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Three universities in the Northern Mindanao region made it to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings in Asia this year, joining 11 other universities in the country. In a statement Wednesday evening, Dr. J. Prospero de Vera, chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (Ched), said these are the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Iligan City, which ranks between 551 and 600; Xavier UniversityAteneo de Cagayan (XU) in this city, and Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Maramag, Bukidnon, both having a rank around 601. For MSU-IIT and XU, this was not the first time they landed on the QS Ranking: XU first entered the charts in 2016, while MSU-IIT first appeared in 2018. The 300 units will ply the Cagayan de Oro City-Bukidnon routes, said Erederos in an interview.
