Oro councilors to probe sanitary landfill leak claim By MARK FRANCISCO Correspondent
CAGAYAN de Oro City-Councilors on Monday announced a probe on the claim of Barangay San Simon chair Rodolfo Nacario that tilapia and shrimps at Iponan river were dying, blaming the existence of a new sanitary landfill at nearby Barangay Pagalungan. Councilor Edna Dahino, vice chair of the committee
on environment, already visited the area two weeks ago and conferred with the residents there about the situation. But it was only last Monday that Councilor Nadya Elipe asked for an investigation. Vice Mayor Reineir Joaquin Uy then promptly ordered Councilor Ma. Lourdes Gaane, committee on health, to start a probe on the matter. See probes, page 9

This was emphasized by Department of National Defense (DND) public affairs office chief Arsenio Andolong when sought for a comment regarding plans to extend martial law in Mindanao. “It is the AFP who can
best determine whether existing conditions in the areas covered by martial law warrant its extension,” he added. “Having said that, however, we must keep in mind that there are still remnants of the violent extremists and their supporters who desecrated Marawi City that are still at large. Their networks are still active and we cannot afford to let our guard down. Our pursuit
