14 students injured as jeepney loses brake By FROILAN GALLARDO, MindaNews
CAGAYAN de Oro City--Fourteen Grade 11 students were injured as the jeepney they were riding overturned when it lost its brakes while negotiating a downhill portion of the Diosdado Macapagal Drive here Friday afternoon. Traffic investigator Staff Sgt. Rey Corpus said the jeepney driver bumped a vehicle
ahead of him to slow his descent. The momentum, Corpus said, was still strong enough as the jeepney crashed and overturned on the highway. “The PUJ crashed and rested at a shoulder of the road with its wheels upward,” he said. The 14senior high students of Merry Child School in Barangay Bulua were reportedly rushed by first aid responders to
the J.R. Borja Hospital here. Corpus said the students had just finished their retreat at Xavier University’s farm in Manresa and hired the jeepney to bring them back to school. Aminoden Guro, Region 10 director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, said they would investigate the incident. (Froilan Gallardo / MindaNews)
