CAGAYAN de Oro City-National Food Authority (NFA) 10 assistant director Gil Tabor appealed to the local public to add more patience as the next batch of imported NFA rice will arrive in less than a month.

Tabor held a press conference over the weekend amid public uproar over the depletion of cheap NFA stocks in almost two months.

At the same day that the press conference was held, visiting presidential spokesperson Harry Roque criticized the agency for its inefficiency in storing buffers when harvest of NFA quality varieties last year was still abundant.

Tabor however reiterated that only NFA stocks have depleted but the more expensive commercial rice is still available. Yet majority of the masses rely on the cheaper NFA varieties for their daily staples.

We can be millionaires someday, say Agusan Sur falcata farmers

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur--Tree farmers in the upland villages of this timber-rich province are keeping their fingers crossed they can be millionaires in the next three to five years when their falcata trees will be ready for harvest.

Madrid Havana, 48, a farmer tending a hectare of falcata trees in an interior upland village of Halapitan in La Paz town is among the 1,363 farmers who are growing this crop since 2014 fully supported by the provincial government under the Upland Sustainable Agri-forestry Development (USAD) program, a pet project of Gov. His falcata trees can be sold to a million pesos or more especially when it reaches the mature age of seven to nine years in 2021 to 2023.

Another farmer Wilfredo Cadenas, who grows the tree in the village of Sinubong in Veruela town, said he could wait to harvest his crop to be fully grown in ten years, the mature age for export market.

He saw his trees growing faster with almost 100 percent survival rate after learning the proper technology in planting falcata by USAD technicians. “Comparing it to what we did before, there is really a big difference now that we planted the USAD way,”Cadenas said.

Marawi inks deal for community-driven shelter, livelihood project MARAWI CITY -- The local government here has signed an agreement with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat) and the government-run Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) for a housing project that includes a livelihood component.

Thursday’s signing of a memorandum of understanding among stakeholders aims to strengthen the housing project’s community-driven approach, UN-Habitat Country Programme Manager Christopher E. Rollo said.

The project seeks to

build 1,500 shelters for identified “home partners” organized under SHFC’s Community Mortgaged Program(CMP). SHFC is the lead government agency for social housing programs catering to low-income families.

Rollo said the beneficiaries will play a key role during the whole process, from site selection, home partner selection, even to the house design. They will be trained to inspect the quality of materials of the their own housing units, ensuring that these are completed according to agreed specifications.

nity members will also be required to conduct financial monitoring and regular auditing to keep all the recipients updated of the project, he added.

“This project presents a new challenge, especially that we have to consider the complex land issues in post-conflict situation,” Rollo said. “In this area, we rely on our expertise.”

Lawyer Arnolfo Ricardo C. Cabling, president of the SHFC, assured that the rebuilding and rehabilitation of Marawi will be imbued with “peoples’ process,” where community-driven approach is the norm.

Reading as a Tool to Develop a Child’s Brain

A child is naturally curious. Give a child a picture and he will write a whole paragraph about it. Give a child a riddle and he will answer it in many different ways. Same goes with reading – let a child read a book and he will describe it in ways he can only understand.

Reading has been a great tool of education for many years now. That is why it is learnt first, before a child can go to the next level. As what the American author Oliver DeMille said, “Great reading naturally leads to great education.” A child who can read is already considered educated -- since this skill can be used everywhere, everyday. The process of learning to read is also vital to a growing child. It teaches patience, determination, and concentration.

In a classroom setting, reading has been unfortunately considered tiring

and time-consuming. Most children grew up disliking the idea of reading -- probably because they weren’t exposed to it in the right way. Because of this, more often than not, children do not take the time to read and understand instructions on tests and exams anymore – which, as we all know, is bound to be a huge problem. Reading feeds the brain information; it is one of the many ways to exercise the brain’s ability to think well. If it is not developed, the child will grow a lazy brain.

So, how does reading really help the child learn?

Simple answer: A lot. But, below are some of the benefits of reading to a child: 1. Reading helps the brain to be creative. When a child reads, likely they are going to paint pictures in their mind to understand what they’re reading fully. When this happens often, a child will develop a creative and experimental mind, which

is a huge proof of development.

2. Reading makes the brain digest and contain new words to be used in the future. Ever had a student who talks mature for his/ her age? Chances are, that child is a reader. When a word looks new to a child, it will always be an exciting challenge to use it in speaking, and in writing.

3. Reading assists the brain to understand nonverbal communication.

Since reading helps a child think more than they talk, it pushes the brain to comprehend and understand non-verbal cues perfectly.

It also develops the child’s ability to solve problems and create solutions.

It has always been a dream to raise a generation of good readers. Yes, it is challenging, but it assures a promising future.

As what the great Richard Steele said, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”

“Effect of Interactive on the Achievement Level of First Year High School Students in Filipino.” Unpublished master’s thesis, Bukidnon State Collage, City of Malaybalay, February 2002.

This study is an experiment study. It used the pretest-posttest design to describe the effect of two methods on the achievement level of first year high school students in Filipino in the four modes of laanguage teaching, namely; Listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This study was conducted in Mindanao State University- Lanao National Collage of Arts and trades. It made use of all first year high school students.

The students were randomly grouped into the control group and the experimental group.

They were given a pretest in October 2001 and 12 weeks after, they were given the posttest on January 18, 2002.

Findings 1. It was found that the achievement level of the first year high school students in Filipino in the control group in the pretest and posttest in listening, reading and writing needed improvement.

2. The achievement level of the students in speaking in the pretest was poor, while in the posttest it was fair.

3. In the experimental group using the interactive method, the achievement level in the pretest needed improvement in all the four modes of language teaching.

4. The achievement level in speaking was poor.

5. There was a positive correlation between the achievement of students in the control group in listening and speaking, and in reading and writing.

6. There was a moderate correlation between listening and reading, listening and writing, and speaking and reading.

7. There was a zero correlation between group speaking and writing.

8. In the experiment group using the interactive method, there was a low but positive correlation between listening and speaking, listening and reading, speaking and writing.

9. There was a high c or re l at i on b e t we e n speaking and reading.

Conclusion 1. Since there was a positive increase in the mean scores of the first year high school students in all the four modes of language teaching in the control group, the students learned using the traditional method.

2. Since there was a positive increase in the mean scores of the students in the experimental group in all the four modes of language teaching, they learned using the interactive method.

3. The result reveals that the achievement of the students using the traditional method and the interactive method increased.

Sonny M. Magno This study primarily aimed to investigate effects of project oriented approach in teaching mathematics towards the students’ performance and interest in math among college students in the engineering technology courses at MSU-Lanao National College of Arts and Trade in Marawi City.

Using a quasi-experimental research design, the respondents were grouped into two, the Experimental Group and the Control Group.

Data were gathered using

achievement test in math which was administered as pretest and posttest; interest test in mathematics; POA lesson plan; field notes, and journal logs. After the data have been gathered, it was analyzed using SPSS for windows.

Findings of the study revealed that the PAO positively influenced the students’ mathematics performance and the interest for the reason that the experimental group has gained higher mean difference compare to that of the control group for based on the mean significant different results of Pretest (t-test value of -75.091, p< 0.05) and Posttest (t-test value of -64.934, p<0,05).

Experimental group were 14.136 which is greater than the 4.863 result of Control Group; therefore, there is a significant difference in the mathematics performance of the two (2) groups namely the Experimental Group

after the intervention.

The student’s mathematics performance improved significantly especially the students under the experimental group that exposed to POA method of teaching it had gained of 10.140. Thus, putting the knowledge based on the improvement of the students’ achievements at their work in the classroom must be recognized. Also, the quality of the implementation of a teaching practice greatly influences its impact on students’ learning. Using manipulative materials to investigate a concept, like project oriented approach for example, depends not only on whether manipulative materials are used, but also on how they are used with the students.

As seen by the findings of the study that using an interactive/participative approach through activity based learning’s will affect the interest and performance of students

in such a difficult subject such as mathematics. Thus, in teaching it is strongly suggested that it would be more effective if the teachers can employ better pedagogy to better designed lesson plan which consists of lectures, activities, and project-based orientation with higher order questions as the post assessment. Teachers should let their students be exposed to the actual application of the topics into activities (making of Project-models) especially on real-life scenarios in order to improve the student’s learning skills in Mathematics, and other subject areas like Science and Technology.

Another recommendation is a parallel study could be conducted using different sample and subject matter as well as with more variables for the triangulation and comparisons of results to validate the findings of this study.

School children in Marawi recycle plastic materials in exchange for school supplies

MARAWI City--At Barangay Bito Buadi Itowa, in an evacuation camp by the foothill of Marawi City, young school children on summer break are being taught a lesson in environmental stewardship.

Using plastic bottles, wrappers, and other waste materials around the area, Meiyoshi Masgon of Xavier Ateneo’s Sustainable Sanitation Center has come up with the idea of recycling them into plastic bricks.

These brick bottles will

be used in the construction of an all-plastic bottle fence to enclose a compost pit in the production of nutrientrich materials to improve the soil and fertilize the communal vegetable gardens in the camp.

In August 2017, three months after the siege erupted on May 23, XU Tabang Marawi has introduced participatory agro-enterprise development as a palatable solution to shield displaced residents from the growing problems of food security

and rising unemployment.

Supplementing this response, the Peace Crops Agri-project has focused on providing similar programs for out-of-school youth as a measure to veer them away from the lure of extremism.

Newborns with birth defects on rise: research

THE number of babies born with defects in 2014 was 1.6 times the 2008 figure, with the rate rising every year, research showed Wednesday.

According to the research by Inha University School of Medicine, 563 out of 10,000 newborns had some sort of internal or external problem with their body in 2014, up from 336 per 10,000 in 2008.

The data was based on 3.28 million babies born between 2008 and 2014.

The findings were published in the latest edition of the International Journal

of Environmental Research and Public Health.

“The rate of congenital birth defects, considered a main cause of deaths among newborns, is increasing every year,” Prof. Lim Jong-han, who led the study, said of the results, emphasizing the importance of closely monitoring the issue.

The data showed that 188.9 out of 10,000 newborns had atrial septal defect, a hole in the wall between the two upper chambers of the heart, in 2014, up from 82.2 per 10,000 in 2008. (Yonhap)

TEN years ago, I was still a freshman, when it comes to Internet and blogging.

When I started my first own blog as a German expatriate living in the Philippines, a very special social network came across my path. The Facebook! I started chatting with some media friends from all over the Philippines.

Actually, I started with “Friendster.” Friends from the whole globe! Facebook was introduced to me as a new site for college kids.

Nowadays, May 2018, we’re experiencing different headlines, when we it comes to social media networks.

Despite scandals over fake news and data privacy, one thing is for sure: the social network Facebook is unlikely to disappear any time soon.

Congress trying to convince lawmakers his social network, initially set up as a way for students to stay in touch with each other, does not pose a threat to the stability of Western democracy and does not treat its users’ personal information with disdain.

The hearing saw him admit that his company had not done enough to prevent the service it provides being used for fake news, foreign interference in elections and data leaks.

In March, it emerged that a political consultancy called Cambridge Analytica used data harvested from millions of Facebook users without their consent. The scandal rocked Facebook to its core and has forced its founder to reconsider how it does business.

In the latest round of his grand apology tour Zuckerberg faced the European Parliament this week (it’s

Friday, May 25, 2018 while writing this piece!) and faced even tougher questioning, just as Europe is poised to introduce new laws that will give it some of the strictest data privacy rules in the world: General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Actually, during the first year, I found Facebook’s evolution and societal function both equally fascinating and disturbing.

The biggest question of all that gnaws at the back of my mind is whether there will be any stopping of Facebook in the future?

It looks increasingly like the answer is no.

“Friendster failed for simple reasons: the time wasn’t right,” says Bernie Hogan, senior research fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute. “Not only is it about the readiness of people to participate in a social networking site, but

it’s also just about the nuts and bolts.”

Friendster and MySpace helped blaze the trail for Facebook’s global popularity, but they failed to achieve even close to the same success as their successor.

The kind of engineering that allows Facebook to function every day simply wasn’t available back in the early days of the new millennium. But by 2004, internet speeds had increased and the coding that underpins websites had become more sophisticated. The technical limitations of earlier social networking sites like Friendster and Friends Reunited cleared the runway for Facebook.

At the moment, there is nowhere else our countrymen can go to, to cool themselves down somehow, except the big shopping malls and hotels which are using giant air-

conditioning units.

If we are to study the environment these days, the burning temperature which has been holding the country in its grip has become so grossly hot it can already scorch skins.

But, wait a minute: why has the weather become so unbearably hot? Scientists and others learned in environmental concerns say global warming and climate change is the culprit.

But, why is there global warming and climate change? The prevailing view is that the environment has become so degraded, especially with the natural coolers of the earth’s crust, the fossil fuels and other minerals originally lodged deep in the earth, having been irretrievably depleted.

There maybe some truth to that assertion but there is a deeper reason than this, and

that reason has something to do with the spiritual angle of global warming and climate change!

-oooSPIRITUAL ANGLE OF HOT TEMPERATURES: Before mockers would mock this view once again as they have done so many times in the past, let me hurry to reiterate that my perceptions on this problem are not mine, but are anchored on the Bible. In its Deuteronomy 28:15 and 22-23, for example, it is there explained that scorching heat temperatures and debilitating droughts and extreme dry spells are curses from God. God promised He will send a great number of curses to people who no longer read nor obey His Bible. These curses number 53 in all, and any interested believer can read all of them in Deuteronomy 28:15 to 68 of the Bible.

THINK a minute.

This a true story about a young couple who just had their first child. A few weeks after giving birth, Patti, the new mother, was telling her friends all she had been through.

four by four meters.

Linda Buquir, chief of USAD, said a fullygrown falcata can be sold at P2,000 per tree in the local market, but if a farmer allows it to grow up to 9 to10 years which could already reach up to 30 cubic meters in diameter, the selling price in the export market can reach up to P12,000 per tree.

So if a farmer can harvest at least 500 trees for a hectare of a farm lot, he can be a millionaire, Buquir said.

Over the years, falcata (scientific name: Falcataria molucanna), a softwood tree species mainly used in making veneer, plywood and paper abounds in this landlocked province with almost a million hectares in total land area. Agusan del Sur is the main supplier of falcata logs in Caraga region, tagged as the timber corridor of the country.

Forester Danny Sarong of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-Local Government Unit said falcata farmers in Agusan del Sur can produce at least 2,000 cubic meters a day, topping all other four provinces in Caraga region.

A study made by the D e p a r t m e nt of E nv i ron m e nt an d Natu r a l Resources showed that Caraga region supplies 70 percent of the country’s wood requirement.

“Push for more effort for your lives to improve and never sell young trees to these buyers,” Plaza said.

Buquir said many farmers in the past before USAD was introduced has been selling their falcata trees still growing at two to three years to a measly P100,000 per hectare. She said USAD farmers who would still engage with this ill practices will be blacklisted and can no longer avail of the program.

To sustain the program, municipal agricultural technicians are tasked to frequently monitor the growth of falcata trees of USAD farmer-enrollees to ensure their million-peso production target.

It was started by an opening program with the presence of the DepEd Regional Director, Dr. Allan Farnazo who gave an inspiring remarks to the teachers. The topics being disscussed in the entire training were: a.) Instructional Delivery Models for English Laguage Arts, b) Literary and Academic Writing, c) Textuality and intertextuality, d) Non- Prose and Prose text, e) grammar, and f )Paraphrasing and Summarizing. Among the speakers who handled the training included Mrs. Merlinda Ilago, Mr. Daniel Lerongan, Dr. Rufina

Densing, Ms. Thessa Lore Tercera, Mrs. Erwin Abad, Mrs. Charlin Mejorada, and Mr. Philip Florenozo. On the 8Th day of training, the DepEd Secretary, Dr. Leonor Briones visited the teachers and gave her inspirational talk. She then advised the teachers to give the importance of reading, speaking and writing the language. The ten- day training was under the guidance of the Regional English supervisor, Dr. Angelina B. A Tale of Two Raiders One is a much-awaited new comer while the other has had a loyal following for quite some time. One has fuelinjection system while the other is fitted with a carburetor. One is known as the Hyper Underbone while the other, the Underbone King. Both go by the name Raider.

Comparing the Suzuki Raider R150 Fi to the Raider R150 may seem a futile exercise at first.

A closer inspection, however, reveals that the two Raiders differ not

only in their fuel system but some other aspects as well.

Raider R150 This motorcycle doesn’t need an introduction. Before the Raider, the term “sport underbone” was an oxymoron. You see, underbones are essentially utilitarian machines. They are intended daily commuting and not for corner-carving on weekends. Yet, Suzuki decided to increase the displacement to 150 cc,

added two more gears and then installed a manual clutch. The result was a category on its own.

Launched about a decade ago, the Raider R150 still has a conventional carburetor. This fact probably contributed to its popularity because it made engine modification easier. The digital speedometer and analog tachometer complement its sporty nature and the exhaust note completes the entire package. The pegs are set towards the rear to prevent them from scraping the pavement when leaning at acute angles.

Verdict The Raider R150 Fi seems to be the more user-friendly of the two with its fuel-injection system. There’s no need to warm-up during morning starts and the air-fuel mixture automatically adjust as needed. It enables the engine to produce more output from the same displacement. The Fi version might also be the more sensible choice since it is more compatible to our ethanol-laced fuel variants.

On the other hand, the carbureted Raider offers a more engaging ownership

experience. Modification after-market parts are readily available to further enhance performance. Having a conventional engine, it is also serviceable by any competent mechanic.

Still if it was easy to choose one Raider over the other then Suzuki wouldn’t have kept both variants in their line-up. In the end, it could just be a matter of preference and budget.

The Raider Fi has an SRP of P109,900 while the Raider carburetor is priced at P95,900.

Rasuman through court order; hence, this petition praying that after publication and trial, an order be issued granting the petition by declaring petitioner as legal beneficiary/ surviving spouse of late Cpt. Dimacaling Rasuman and directing the AFP, Camp General Aguinaldo, Camp Crame, Quezon City as custodian of the records of late Cpt. Dimacaling Rasuman to make necessary entry on its records that petitioner be judicially confirmed as legal beneficiary and surviving spouse of Cpt. BOC seizes smuggled ukay, agri, food products

The Bureau of Customs –Port of Davao has seized four shipments containing misdeclared onions, magic sugar, candies, mosquito coils, and used clothing.

Commissioner Isidro Lapena said two of the shipments from China h av e a r r i v e d at S a s a Wharf in Davao City on separate dates while the other two came from Indonesia and United States to Davao International Container Terminal.

“Customs authorities have intercepted in Sasa Wharf the shipments of Janrev Enterprises which is declared to contain plastic plates but was found to contain 401 c ar t ons of Sn ow b e ar candy, and 869 cartons of mosquito coil, and the imports of Bizreal Trading International found to contain apples mixed with 6,300 sacks of onion,” Commissioner Lapena said.

A l s o s e i z e d at t he DICT are shipments of Ma h mu d E nte r pr is e s and Kobesean Trading for misdeclaring bales of ukay-ukay, 275 boxes of magic sugar, and 115 boxes of lotion.

The goods were declared as bedsheets, shoes, pillowcases, stuffed toys, and bags.

Meanwhile, another shipment at the DICT was subjected to an alert order af ter t he x-ray machine revealed images app e ar ing to b e “sacks of onions” which is dif ferent f rom t he declared item. It was also consigned to Bizreal Trading International.

“We are alerting all agricultural products a r r i v i n g at t h e p o r t

as per directive of the Commissioner. We are closely monitoring the imports of agricultural products to prevent the entry of smuggled products,” District Collector Atty. Romalino G. Valdez said.

The Office of the District Collector has issued warrants of seizure and detention (WSD) upon t h e re c om m e n d at i on of t he X - r ay Insp e c tion Project, Customs Intelligence and Invest igat ion S er v ice, and Enforcement and Security Service for violating Section 1400 and Section 1300 paragraphs of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. The seized ukay-ukay also violated RA 4653 or “An Act to Safeguard the Health of the People and maintain the Dignity of the Nation by declaring it a National Policy to Prohibit the Commercial Importation of Textile articles commonly known as Used Clothing and Rags”.

But Hwang points to another serendipitous factor in Facebook’s global rise: mobile phones. In a lot of developing countries, people only have cheap mobiles to access the internet. In fact, a lot of these users think Facebook is the internet.

“We can’t discount the power of mobile,” says Hwang. It’s made “social networks much, much more pervasive. You have social media at all times in your pocket, which makes it this powerful platform for news and conversation that operated in a slower way in the desktop-only era.”

People are describing Facebook and its nine lives.

As Facebook’s popularity has spread, so too have predictions of an imminent “tipping point”. One 2014

study from Princeton University forecast that Facebook could lose “80% of its peak user base between 2015 and 2017.” This prediction was made long before the Cambridge Analytica scandal did so much harm to the company’s reputation. So, how has Facebook managed to accumulate the business equivalent of a cat’s nine lives?

For starters, it has become so engrained and intertwined in the digital ecosystem of the 21st Century that it is hard to now untangle it. Oxford’s Hogan points to a concept he calls “interoperability.”

This is where a Facebook login is often required to use and operate other online services.

“Just today I went out to buy concert tickets,” Hogan says. “I had to log into Facebook. I don’t use Facebook, but I had to dust off my login. Facebook is becoming that de facto, online identity provider.” I am sure, you experienced the same my dear readers.

Facebook also taps into basic human needs, according to psychologists. Even with social media movements like #DeleteFacebook, mass privacy concerns or even just call to leave the site on the back of pedestrian design tweaks, people just can’t stay away.

“A l m o s t e ve r y b o d y comes back,” says Catalina Toma, associate professor of communication science at the University of Wisconsin.

“Social networking sites tap into what makes us human: we like to connect with others.” Yes, we don’t go out and meet friends somewhere for a chat or a beer or coffee. We are connected with them via Facebook.

But there are tangible benefits beyond those that keep people hooked.

“Lots of studies show the more people use Facebook, the more social capital they derive – resources that we get from just being con-

Monday, May 28, 2018 nected to other people,” says Toma. “There’s emotional support, asking for advice, asking for recommendations.”

For many Facebook users, the pros outweigh the cons: tracking down longlost friends, getting leads to a job, expanding their business. They can deal with the glamorized glimpses. All this keeps people coming back for more, despite the onslaught of what Toma calls “glamorized glimpses”.

These are the carefully curated peeks into the lives of everyone else, who all seem to be doing better than you.

“They feel worse, but they cannot stop,” Toma says. I strongly have to agree!

Facebook is bound to have a grip on our lives.

“Social media companies seek to exploit one’s attention for profit,” Hogan says.

“It’s not even ambiguous.

It’s exactly what Zuckerberg said in Congress: ‘Where do you get your money?’ ‘We get it from ads.’”

Right place, right time: the rise of internet-connected mobile devices in turn fueled the rise of Facebook.

But even after the Cambridge Analytica disaster – Zuckerberg eventually published an apology to the 87 million Facebook users whose data was inappropriately shared – there’s still no stopping the social media steamroller.

“Facebook’s business is still going to accelerate,” says Scott Galloway, a professor of marketing at New York University who wrote The Big Four, a book about how powerful a tiny handful of technology companies are becoming. “Consumers talk a big game but where is the first place they go to express their rage? Facebook and Instagram. And with 2.2 billion monthly active users, advertisers have no choice but to be on Facebook.” That could change, though, as advertising dollars follow young users who abandon the platform.

Still, there’s plenty of

stability with older people – even among senior citizens.

The site’s true future could boil down to what world governments decide to do, if anything, about Facebook’s growing influence.

“I don’t think the question is [what is] ‘killing Facebook’,” says Sherry Turkle, professor of the social studies of science and technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “I think the question is what would get people to an appropriate use of Facebook.

To the extent that we ‘knew’ about it before, we found ways to put it out of mind.

Now, we can no longer do this.” We’re now all too familiar with the dangers of data leaks and fake news.

Let’s face it: there’s also the simple fact that Facebook has a monopoly. “Facebook’s sheer size and cash on hand means that they can either acquire or effectively shut down any competition,” says Galloway, pointing to examples like WhatsApp and Instagram, which were eventually absorbed into the Facebook behemoth.

For now, Facebook is still so entrenched in our daily lives, there’s not going to be an immediate escape.“What’s more likely to happen is that people start to realize the markets and the economy might be better off – by stimulating innovation, creating new jobs – if we were to break it up and have multiple firms instead of just one,” Galloway says.

That’s a more likely outcome than Facebook just crashing, burning and disappearing altogether, according to the experts.

For this to happen, governments will crack down on regulation to make Facebook less powerful. And while Facebook’s success has satisfied our human needs for connections, its sheer size, massive user base, and staying power have brought with it unprecedented scrutiny – like the kind we’ve seen this week in Europe.

From where I sit, mankind should try to understand well God’s catastrophic promises from Deuteronomy 28:15-68, so that they would be empowered to find solutions against the curses promised by God. If these 53 curses from God, including the curses of scorching heat and debilitating droughts which are even now thrashing our countrymen, came as a result of man’s refusal to read God’s Bible and his dislike in obeying His commands, it would be clear that the only antidote against such curses would be a diligent reading of the Bible, and truthful obedience to His commands.

And so I am appealing to those who are, like me, trying to seek the most effective solutions against God’s curses. We should start with ourselves, by reading the Bible daily once again, meditating on what we have been reading from its verses, and carefully obeying those commands everyday of our lives. Abstract MANGONTAWAR M. MODASIR Assistant Professor IV MSU, LNCAT

The main purpose of the study is to look into the relationship between the personality variable and supervisory performance of department heads of MSU- Lanao National College of Arts and trades, during the school year 2016-2017.

The descriptive survey method was used together with a questionnaire checklist in gathering the needed data.

There were 40 teachers and 5 heads involved in the study.

Frequency count, mean computations, t-test and Pearson r Product Moment of Correlation were the statistical tools in the study.

The following findings are revealed:

1. The personal variables of department heads along emotional stability, consideration, leadership, sociability and flexibility were generally found as “always” displayed by them.

2. The teacher-perceived supervisory performance of heads in terms of providing supervisory leadership and improving the teaching learning situation were found to be “excellent”, however, improving the manner of evaluation performance was revealed as “very satisfactory”.

3. There is a significant different between the perceptions of the heads and teachers on the supervisory performance of heads in providing supervisory leadership and improving the manner of evaluating

performance, however, they do not differ significantly in their perceptions on improving the teaching-learning situation.

4. Personal variable of heads along emotional stability, consideration leadership, sociability and flexibility were significantly related to their supervisory performance in improving the manner of evaluating performance. Conversely, these personal variables of heads had no bearing on their supervisory leadership and improving the teaching-learning situation.

On the bases of the findings, these conclusions are drawn: Department heads possess in the post and has performed well of being effective heads. However, to

some extent, their personal variables have no bearing with their supervisory performance.

Based on the forgoing finding, and conclusion, these recommendations are hereby offered: 1. Department heads should be exposed to intensive training in management which would include topics relative to personality development and behavioral management since in the field of educational institute, changes occur from time to time, different attitude and behavior of teachers take place. Towards the end, heads could well be equipped with the necessary adjustment among these behaviors.

2. There must be a continuous appraisal on the

supervisory performance the heads so that they may well be updated with their performance and in such a manner heads may be able to improve in what areas are they found weak and maintain those standards which were already excellent performed.

3. Higher Authorities in MSU-LNCAT shall conduct straining for their department heads that are already in the filed particularly on supervisory aspects so that they improve their supervisory performance their making the school attained the goals of quality education.

4. A similar study may be conducted to validate the result of the present study.

Private contractors presently holding explorations permits, mineral agreements, and financial and/or technical assistance agreements, and large-scale quarrying permits are given two years from the time the law takes effect to secure a legislative franchise, otherwise their permits and agreements will be terminated.

Before renewal of any franchise, the Secretary [of Environment and Natural Resources or DENR] shall review the existing mineral agreement, or financial or technical assistance agreement or large-scale quarrying agreement to determine if the entire contract area has been utilized and is necessary for purposes of the mining operations of the contractor.

Clearing the ROW corridor of transmission lines and facilities of informal settlers and dangerous improvements prevents unnecessary power interruptions and mitigates potential loss of life and property.

Grid operator’s San Jose-Quezon transmission line project in full swing NGCP’s San-Jose Quezon 230 kiloVolt (kV) transmission line upgrading project is now set to high gear after the Quezon City Government cleared the right-of-way corridor of seven transmission tower sites located in Barangays Baesa and Sangandaan.

The San Jose-Quezon 230kV Line 3 project is a critical project which will widen the power corridor into Metro Manila, and allow supply from power plants to feed the Luzon load center.

It will also relieve the existing transmission line, prevent overloading, and will ensure that NGCP maintains the line’s N-1 contingency.

N-1 refers to the ability of the transmission grid to withstand a major power disturbance through redundancies in the grid system.

The project also involves the expansion of NGCP’s San Jose Quezon Substations, which are crucial facilities that serve the load requirements of Metro Manila.

“Thanks to our good relations with the government of Quezon City, we were able to rehabilitate and upgrade our transmission lines in the city which were previously inaccessible by our transmission line team. Our efforts are now

focused on expediting the project’s completion, and seeing a more reliable transmission of power in the country’s biggest load center,” NGCP stated.

Through an agreement signed by NGCP and the Quezon City government last 2017, the latter implemented the relocation of informal settlers living underneath the San Jose-Quezon transmission line in the two barangays and cleared the tower sites of dangerous improvements, helping NGCP secure the ROW clearances of its tower sites within the city.

Respecting the ROW corridor of transmission lines and facilities will prevent unnecessary power interruptions, ensure swifter maintenance activities, and will avert potential loss of life and property.

NGCP also renews its call for support from other LGUs to work with the company in securing ROW corridors of its transmission lines and facilities in order to fasttrack the implementation of its projects nationwide.
