BATASANG PAMBANSA, QUEZON CITY - Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was proclaimed last night, Wednesday, May 25, 2022 here, as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines after Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, declared him as the winner of the presidential race in Election 2022. The national canvassing committee of Congress also proclaimed Marcos’ running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as the new vice president of the Philippines. Bong bong Marcos, who campaign for unity and economic reforms, obtained more than 31 million votes in the final canvassing yesterday.. The former senator said he wanted to lead the country to unite his countrymen. Sara Duterte-Carpion, the running mate of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. won the 2022 elections with more than 31 million votes. The canvassing of votes for president and vice president in the recent elections lasted for only two days. The National Board of Canvassers, opened 105 certificates of canvass (COCs) on Tuesday, May 24, out of the 173 total COCs to be canvassed and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos already led the presidential race with 24,052,854 votes; while Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte leads vice presidential candidates with 24,171,445 votes. Leaders of Congress hope to proclaim the winning candidates later today. On the final results of the congeressional canvassing, Atty. Romulo Macalintal, election lawyer of VP Leni Robredo, said their camp won’t object to the inclusion of all COCs for president. Today’s proclamation ceremony by Congress marks another historic milestone in our political life as a nation underscoring that we are, indeed, a showcase and beacon of democracy in this part of the world. As both leaders are about to embark on the responsibilities and challenges of their respective offices, we reiterate our call for our people to stand behind our newly elected leaders.
