Clash of malls in Oro intensifies

CAGAYAN de Oro City--The “war” among shopping malls in this trading capital of Northern Mindanao intensified with the opening Friday of the 15.2-hectare Shoe Mart (SM) in the city’s downtown area along Claro M. Recto Avenue.

SM now has two shopping malls here, bringing to eight the number of big shopping malls in the city, aside from S & R, a mall that offers imported products only.

Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Maximo Rodriguez said the opening of SM CDO Downtown Premier shopping mall might affect the operation or earnings of other malls in the city.

East of SM CDO Premier is the 200-hectare Limketkai Commercial Complex, which houses Robinsons Mall, SM-RECTO. SM Prime Holdings President Hans Sy leads the coin-tossing ceremony after the inauguration and Shop Wise shopping mall and other high end shops of blessing of the newly opened Sm-CDO Downtown Premier located at Claro M. LIANGA, Surigao del Sir-Four men whose face were covered with cloth mask have burned the house of a government forest ranger in Lianga, Surigao del Sur early Thursday morning in what officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resource (DENR) speculate a retaliation of the confiscated illegal logs.

ZAMBOANGA City––A top military official here welcomed the move of the Muslim clerics, particularly in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), for taking an active role in the fight against terrorism.

Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said there is a need for all the stakeholders to contain the spread of religious extremism and radicalism here in Mind-

“Security is a shared responsibility that needs sustainment of partnership between the different stakeholders, security sectors, the local government units, the academe, and religious sectors, and other stakeholders to defeat the threat of terrorism in Southern Philippines,” Galvez said.

“It also fulfills its fiduciary responsibility, providing effective stewardship, funds management and maintenance of its reserves.

Hence, PhilHealth’s fund is stable and there is no solid basis for insolvency.

That petitioners are husband and wife respectively in a marriage performed under Civil rites on May 26, 2003 at Bacolod City, both petitioners had been converted to Muslim and thereby embraced Islam Religion as their new found faith, by virtue of their respective intellectual choices which which were duly registered with this court, both of them can be served with summons and other legal processes relative to this case at their residents at Bacolod City and Palmspring, St. Mary Tibanga, Iligan City respectively;

That said marriage did not last long due to lack of love and affection until the relationship manifested incompatibility and sustained misunderstanding between petitioners and reached the point of irreconcilability and they separated from each other for more than five (5) years,they decided to separate live physically in bed and board thereby, executed Memorandum of Agreement in order to formalize their separation. Since their separation, they had never been communicating or supporting either financially or emotionally to each other,neither minding each other affair’s; Petitioner’s seek judicial decree of divorce, thereby, severing their marriage bond on March 26,2003, so that they will have free hand to do what a single man or woman could do without marital burdens. Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile.

WHEREFORE, finding this petition to be sufficient in form and substance, set the initial hearing of this case on May 26, 2017 at 9:00 a.m at which time, date and place. Any interested party may appear and show why the petition should not be granted. Let copy of this Order be published in a news paper of General Circulation in the City of Iligan once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks at the expense of the petitioners.

Patrick M. Angelia, a regular forest ranger assigned at the enforcement section of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office ( CENRO) Lianga to extend assistance.

The entire household members of Angelia including his parents, were able to escape unhurt from the raging fire when they were awakened by the shouts and commotion of their neighbours.

Lianga CENR Officer Herman Ramirez said the relentless drive of the DENR on anti-illegal logging may have drawn the ire of the timber poachers in the area and burned the house.

Fabre said: “The timber poachers it seemed to be, are trying to get even with the DENR for confiscating their stolen logs.”

He said a similar incident decade ago happened when, an irate timber poacher also shot and killed a forest ranger of CENRO Lianga on board his service motorcycle while on his way home.

The killing was associated with relentless antiillegal logs operation where the slain government worker was figured in several raids of sawmill plants.

“It’s a respite to think that there was no violence involve in this latest incident,” CENRO Hernan said.

“But it is sad to think that the whole personal belongings of FR Angelia and his house have disappeared in a fire,” he said.

Initial investigation has shown that the suspects cut the pipes of the fuel tank of the three parked motorbikes at the front and spilled the gas before they torched it.

The fire immediately gobbled up the entire house in an hour.

Angelia said all their personal belongings and furniture and other properties were completely razed to the ground. Total damage cost was estimated at P500 thousand pesos.

Report showed that at the start of the government’s intensified drug campaign after President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office, at least nine villages were affected by problems spawned by illegal drugs.

“We’ve already cleared all nine villages in this town,” Quinto said.

A “drug-cleared” status means that authorities have verified and confirmed the non-availability of narcotics supplies in the barangay, and the absence of drug transit or transshipment activities.

“But we’re not putting our guards down. Our aim is to continue our pursuit of our target local drug personalities, eradicate the drug problems in the remaining affected areas and maintain the drug-free status of the cleared areas by doing constant monitoring,” said Gilbert Buenafe, acting regional director of PDEA-Caraga.

Mayor Richelle B. Romarate said she will continue to monitor the villages to ensure her town will be free from illegal drugs.

She underscored the proactive role of all Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils in the nine villages.

The mayor said to ensure that the drug users will not go back to their old vice, she will improve tourism and agriculture in the area to give economic opportunities.

Police records showed that at least 395 drug users and pushers in the town surrendered to authorities since the implementation of “Oplan TokHang,” the police’s anti-drug campaign that started with President Duterte’s assumption of office.

At least six drug suspects have been arrested and no deaths have so far been recorded, police said.

Some residents here have expressed elation on the news that their place is now free from the proliferation of illegal drugs.

“To those who have Ulama relatives, warn your parents, brothers and children not to attend the summit because if something happens to them along the way or in the end, don’t tell us you were not warned,” the statement said.

Dawla Islamiya, roughly translates to “Islamic state,” is believed to have pledged allegiance to ISIS. The group claimed that ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman has been using the Ulama for his personal agenda, and that the summit would result to Ulama branding members of the radical group as terrorists.

In a separate statement, Hataman noted that terrorism and security-related problems in the region had been hampering economic growth, and the support of religious leaders were pivotal to communitybased initiatives towards sustainable development and against terrorism in the region.

He said that the economies of ARMM could only post less than one percent growth last year while that of the neighboring areas posted four to six percent growth. “This is because security threats pose limits in the region’s economic expansion,” he added.

The team learned that the Lantapan Water System that sourced its water from the rivers can supply the needed potable water to the residents. The river can still supply water even 13 long month’s drought.

Blackmailing hospitals into paying ransom has also been reported in other parts of the world, most notably in the US state of California, where a Hollywood, hospital paid about $17,000 (15,000 EURO) in the digital currency bitcoins to hackers this month.
