With the technical assistance of the PCA–MisOr headed by Division Chief I Manuel G. Octobre, technologies on field planting and layouting, coconut nutrition and existing valued-adding technologies of the agency were discussed to the farmers.

Juliefe Buzarong of PAGRO said the distribution of the dwarf seedlings will commence in June, during the onset of the rainy season.

Love, anti-dote against COVID-19

YOU can live for 40 days without food, for 8 days without water and for 8 minutes without air. But you cannot live even for 3 seconds without love.

Great religions have been bannering love – from the Hindus’ Bhagavad Gita, to the teachings of Buddha, Christ, Mohammad, and Bahaulla, love looms as the supreme force in the universe that commands all obedience. Be that as it may, it is quite puzzling to note that based on a Study by Oxfam, it is a conclusion that in these contemporaneous times, “humanity has given full veneration to the profit motive that has captured the minds of all governments, all institutions, all universities and even of religious

groups. There is continuing denigration of spirituality because humanity is so enamored on externalities, external looks, religious trivialities and buried in so much materialism and consumerism.”

All these years, the egoic mind prevails that has manifested collective insanity.

In the 20th century alone, human beings killed more than 100 million of their own kind and perpetuate a development paradigm controlled by global corporations that have put billions of species, be flora and fauna, to extinction.

These species are the reflection of the Unseen Being, the Creator, that have been living even before the homo sapiens came into being.

Man is killing Gaia (Mother Earth). Her lungs (the forests) are all gone together with billions of life forms that have been living in the forest-ecosystem for billions of years. Her veins (the rivers) are gone, either dried-up or polluted. Her stomach (the oceans) are acidic and rising as 1,000 hectares of the 386-meter high iceberg are melting every day in the Arctic and the Antarctic. Her head is now bald due to the depletion of the ozone layer and her skin (the grass lands) are burning due to wild fire in the amazons and Sahara Desert is expanding without let-up.

of drought, of the eruption of volcanoes and what have you, mankind continues to perpetuate a development paradigm which can be likened to workings of an auto-immune disease syndrome (AIDS), where no less than the body’s defense mechanisms are attacking the vital organs. Global nightmare THE human race has faced —for over two months now — an unprecedented test never before seen and felt on a global scale.

As I write this piece, four million — and counting — of people around the globe are affected from the spread of Covid -19. Thousands are now gone and a quarter were able to recover.

Worst, almost all countries had bowed down to this invisible enemy whose origin has remained a puzzle to health authorities.

Thus, the birth of a new normal - no mass gathering, social distancing, wearing of face masks and washing of hands.

As scientists grapple for cure, the disease continues to spread its venom like wildfire.

And exponentially, turmoil and economies are in a nose-dive.

Indeed, we have entered an era of global recession – the worst ever that even surpassed the 2009 financial crunch.

By and large, the magnitude of the response was no match the scale of the crisis, and not until a dedicated vaccine could come early, the virus stays.

For now, countries must remain steadfast in their resolve to beat the virus and to tackle upfront its profound

consequences.

That said, large -scale, coordinated and comprehensive international responses has to stay on board and firmly mounted for the unseen enemy to eventually shiver to the fore.

With the cure still hanging in the air, shared responsibility and global solidarity are the responses we need to combat the impacts of Covid-19.

The coordinated health response to suppress transmission and end the pandemic must be sustained as it were.

With the lifting of lockdowns on a calibrated manner, a response that scales up

health capacity for testing, tracing, quarantine and treatment must not be sidelined.

This is a response that could deliver universal access to treatment and hopefully find that elusive vaccine.

The recovery from the crisis may now lead to a different economy.

Iya Nice is a Tagoloanon beauty inside and out

FOR our Mother’s Day special, please meet the Miss Tagoloan winner of 1938, who celebrated her 100th birthday last April 25th.

Born in 1920, Nice Casino was 18 years old when she sat on her throne, and she looked in every way a beauty queen as Miss Tagoloan.

Beauty title holders in modern times are nowhere close to how she projected her image, even with the aid of social media and YouTube.

Ever since I came to know this nice lady, I kept asking myself, why is her name Nice? Her eldest daughter Dorothy Antillon said it was the family doctor who suggested the name “Nice.”

At 100 years old, she still looks really nice at her age.

She lives up to her name, Myrna C. Cosin said. “She is really a nice person. I

know her to be generous.”

A cousin,Gina Laluna Burias expressed the same sentiments about Iya Nice, saying she is “manghitagun.”

Myrna remembered something about Iya Nice that I recall myself. She said she would always ask visitors if they ate already (nakakaon na ka?) when they drop by her home.

This simple question brings back a thousand memories of the past, as you can see. As I’ve told so many times in my blogs and articles, I joined the local mainstream media right after I worked as a stenographer at the 6th Municipal Circuit Court of Tagoloan-Villanueva in Misamis Oriental. One time, I recalled that there was a request from Sir Oloy, the late husband of Iya Nice,

to deliver transcripts to the house. It was a Saturday morning, and to be honest I had no money, so I went to their house to deliver the transcript and collect payment. Sir Oloy was not there, but the helper ushered me in and Iya Nice came out and asked me, “Nakakaon na ka?” I was hungry, so I ate the sandwich and suman (sticky rice) and drank the coffee she offered.

Iya Nice was born in the town of Balacanas in Misamis Oriental before Tagoloan was divided into towns. Now, Balacanas is part of the Villanueva town. She was born to Tirso Casino Sr. and Dorotea Valdehueza, both native Tagoloanons. This mother of three witnessed two world wars, married businessman Teodulfo “Oloy” Cosin Yap,

and is grandmother to three beautiful granddaughters.

As mentioned by writer Robert Fulghum in his book 16 Things Everyone Learned in Kindergarten, afternoon or siesta naps are one of the secrets to longevity. Iya Nice is a product of this practice, along with spending time listening to favorite songs like “No Other Love.” Her memory is still sharp, as she can clearly recall scenes from the 1939 American epic historical romance Gone with the Wind.

As we are so concerned of our very own life, perhaps COVID-19 is the awakening path. Let notice be served, man is the real virus that has been the cause of the massacre of billions of life forms on earth.

Five decades ago, an environmentalist from USA by the name of Larry Heaney visited Mr. Kitanglad and was so amazed to see beautiful eagles hovering above as if dancing to the music of the wind and below were monkeys jumping from one branch to another amidst the blooming of radiating trees and flowers. Per unit area, the Philippines is the richest on earth with regards to mega-diversity. Creation is sacred as such is the reflection of the Creator but are all gone now due to the

virus called man.

Life began at the sea, the home of billions of marine life forms. The Philippines has been described by the UN-FAO, as “the center of the center of marine life on earth.” Again these marine species are gone – forever.

This time the call is to love and protect God’s vanishing creation. How? By awakening process called COVID-19. Corona Virus is an offshoot of the satanic forces – of greed, of the dominance of a few over the world’s resources where only 1% elite are in control, of the massive destruction of the very life on earth and severe pain inflicted upon Gaia COVID-19 is darkness, Love is the light. In the presence of light, darkness immediately vanishes and no way can darkness defeat the light.

What is amazing is that as we are combatting COVID-19, what has dawned upon humanity now is the essence of love. We now must shout our love for GAIA – we love you Gaia!

With that power of love radiating over the horizon, no way can the corona virus prevail. Let that love, that light loom to all of God’s creation, feeling that oneness, that sacredness, that principle and share that with one and all. Indeed, no greater love there is but one that is being shown now by the cooperatives.

Dorothy remembers Nanay having a close relationship with Iya Epoy Mabulay of the Puriculture Center. Iya Nice goes to church at the 6 AM mass, which I also attend.

“She has always been there for us. She inspires us in so many ways. Growing up, she was a firm disciplinarian, but she was always fair with the three of us [siblings],” Dorothy said.

With three granddaughters named Aaftine Antillon, Anneliese Antillon Galeano, and Natasha Perez, Iya Nice is living the good life.

I wish to visit her one day, after this COVID-19 pandemic, for information on events and people in my hometown, which I plan to publish because she still has a good memory. I am sure Consuello Sueng S. Caballero also has her fair share of memories to add to this tribute, but I went ahead to pay my own due to deadline constraints.

OBJECTIVELY looking at our present circumstance, it is obvious that the President has taken initiatives within the realm of the powers of the state, and his presidential duties and responsibilities, to do what is possible to mitigate and control, if not stop entirely the coronavirus-19.

The president’s affirmative actions may not be perfect but it is a work in progress.

As is appearing, he tried and continues to explore conceivable options to save Filipino lives while trying to rescue the economy, sustain and preserve our homeland, so that the present and future generations may continue to enjoy a healthy and comfortable life.

In fact, he has the audacity to spend billions of public funds and, if need be, to even sell some of our sovereign assets, at the high risk of weakening our cash flow and financial position if only to protect Filipino lives and alleviate the family and household economy during this period of crisis.

Ironically, if not paradoxically, it is unfathomable why many of us Filipinos remain ambivalent and even defiant of government lawful orders.

Yet, it is intriguing to observe why many of our fellow citizens seems to have forgotten that this government is not solely the responsibility of President Duterte and the 16 million Filipinos who voted for him; nor that of his appointees, or of those we voted to positions of power and authority.

Rather, this government is the collective and mutually inclusive responsibility of all Filipinos - leaders and followers alike. Thus, while we don’t have the slightest intent to father anybody’s destiny, we join all Filipinos in believing that the phrase “We the People” signifies our shared goals - the common denominator for our common future.

(ALI) on Monday reported a 41-percent decline in its net income in the first quarter of 2020, attributed to the impact of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) measures due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

In a statement, ALI said net income reached PHP4.3 billion in the January to March period from PHP7.3 billion during the same period last year.

Its consolidated revenues also declined by 28 percent to PHP28.4 billion from PHP39.7 billion.

DENR 10 CENRO Oroquieta City backs some LGUs of MisOcc in the fight against COVID-19 IN response to the letter requests from various Local Government Units (LGUs) of Misamis Occidental, DENR 10 - Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Oroquieta City donated logs and lumbers for the construction of COVID-19 quarantine facilities and quarters in their respective jurisdictions.

These quarantine facilities and quarters shall be used to accommodate the Persons Under Monitoring and Persons Under Investigation in Oroquieta City and municipalities of Aloran and Jimenez. In particular, the LGU of Oroquieta City received 859 pieces of lumbers (mahogany, falcata, marang and gmelina) with a total volume of

3,849.99 bd. ft last April 20, 2020.

Meanwhile, the LGU of Aloran received logs and lumbers (mahogany and narra) with a volume of 4,240 bd. ft. on April 23, 2020. It is already the years 3000s and the world has changed drastically more than ever. The cars are auto piloted as it hovered above the ground, gadgets and technologies widely varied and are world-shattering within its own terms. But through this is so, how people act showed little signs of improvement. They searched

for who was different from the most and made them change to what they thought they should be.

We are the “new” of our generation; the deviants of the past norms and the adaptors of currency. Though they are the ones who made us… molded us… yet, why were they the first to scream that we destroyed their legacy when it fact we are

one of what they call “legacy”.

They accused our existence as abominations, something that would soon earn retribution.

We were convinced that what we are was wrong, an error that should be corrected.

But what was in our heart was the opposite. Though our brains agreed, our souls contradicted. We struggled and clawed as we fought for our worth. We can do so much more than “before”. They clamoured at our rebellion but they failed to notice that they are the ones

who lit the spark; the spark that rose into flames and created the light. It blinded us yes, though it was only for a moment. That was when we started to understand.

By the time they have seen this maybe centuries have passed, the fire we sought to protect may already have grown into a beacon of light that enlightened the eyes of most or may have extinguished from the pressure surrounding it. I am someone with the soul of the “new”.

If there’s one subject that the most students say “I was never good at”, it’s probably Math. Look how much trouble students have with Mathematics typically.

All the numbers, formulas, symbols and calculations are complex making it harder to understand. Thus, many students fail Math.

Students have their own reasons why they fail Math.

Mostly, students get so anxious about math. Worrying about being able to solve a problem or not doing well on the test and promoting self-doubt damages working memory and limits student’s cognitive processes. Furthermore, the peer pressure is also one of the reasons.

Students cannot cope with the pressure to perform at school. Eventually, technical skills in dealing Mathematics of students will be hampered.

Moreover, the attitude towards learning the subject and the method of teaching greatly affect the performance of the students. If a student dislikes the subject,

FRL Trading, a start-up company selling agri-based products, diversified to producing washable face masks and running a grocery delivery service online.

Proprietor Felita Lubon said that although her company earns well producing turmeric and ginger tea, she saw the high demand for washable face masks and decided to look for good needleworkers in the mountain barangays of Cebu.

“I bring the fabric to their homes and collect the finished products from them. These needleworkers are happy that they earn income from their work and are able to support their family despite the lockdown,” Lubon said.

Currently, FRL Trading produces 6,000 to 10,000 facemasks a day for local and international buyers.

In late April, Lubon noticed the huge volume of people who have been forced to stay home and were unable to do groceries as well as drivers who were suddenly rendered jobless.

This crisis gave Lubon the idea of establishing an online grocery delivery service that brings supermarket items to those compelled to stay home and give jobs to drivers who are out of work as well.

Since two weeks ago, Lubon’s grocery delivery service receives an average of 100,000 online orders a day.

As the proponent of this initiative, Go sees the BP2 Program as a way to decongest Manila, strengthen the capability of government to respond better to crises, and boost the economy of the provinces.

The Senator urged the Executive branch, particularly concerned agencies and LGUs, to execute their plans immediately in support of the objectives of the program as more Filipinos have expressed willingness to go home to their provinces after what they experienced during the COVID-19 crisis.

“Hindi po ito sapilitan. Lamborghini Unveils New Huracán EVO RWD Spyder ONLY three days after having restarted manufacturing operations on May 4, Automobili Lamborghini revealed the new Huracán EVO RearWheel Drive Spyder via Augmented Reality on its official website—marking a first in the company’s history.

“Marami nang gustong umuwi. Pero walang pilitan po ito. Unahin natin ang mga gusto nang mag-balik probinsya habang hinahanda natin ang iba pang mga programa para ma-enganyo ang iba pang taga-Maynila at ang mga negosyante na mag-relocate na rin sa iba’t ibang parte ng bansa,” he explained.

Senator Go emphasized that the whole government should learn from the experiences encountered during the COVID-19 crisis, particularly the difficulties in controlling the spread of a disease and the challenges of delivering government services in overpopulated urban centers.

Filinvest Tent now ready for use as health facility

FILINVEST Tent in Alabang, Muntinlupa City is now ready for use as a COVID-19 mega quarantine facility.

The Filinvest Tent ‘We Heal As One Center’ was set up by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in collaboration with the private sector.

In a ceremony held May 13, 2020, the management and operation of the 108bed quarantine center was formally turned over to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) after it was inspected by National Action Plan Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr. together with Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, DPWH Undersecretary & Head of Task Force for Augmentation of Health Facilities Emil K. Sadain, OCD Administrator Ricardo B. Jalad, and BFP Chief Jose S. Embang Jr. DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the Filinvest Tent is the ninth
