DAVAO CITY – The city government commemorated the 17th-year anniversary of the Sasa Airport bombing on Tuesday, remembering the victims of the horrific incident that claimed the lives of 22 people. Mayor Sara Duterte, who led the ceremony, said the March 4, 2003 bombing that also wounded dozens of individuals continues to evoke “painful memory” among the victims’ families. “For some of you, this is the site of the incident that has forever changed the lives of your families. ILIGAN CITY -- The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) continued its efforts to boost the government communications arm in the different areas in the country. In his visit this morning in Lanao del Norte, PCOO Chief Secretary Martin Andanar discussed with provincial governor Imelda Dimaporo this efforts by intensifying grassroots information dissemination on government projects and programs. Andanar said that the PCOO, as the government’s information arm, will be documenting the start of the construction of Panguil Bay Bridge. “Let the Filipino know its importance to the Zam-

boanga Peninsula and respective Municipalities. This is the longest bridge being constructed by this administration, longer than San Juanico Bridge. We are documenting Panguil Bay construction, so that the people could know about it,” Andanar said. “President Duterte is finally constructing the longest bridge in the Philippines,” he added. DAR-Surigao Sur beneficiaries get over P25-M aid in 2019 By ALEXANDER LOPEZ

BUTUAN CIT Y – The Department of Agrarian Reform in the province of Surigao del Sur (DAR-SDS) facilitated the release of PHP25.175 million worth of livelihood assistance to 33 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) from 25 Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) in 12 municipalities of the province. The livelihood assistance was released through the Convergence on Livelihood Assistance for ARBs Project (CLAAP), a program being implemented by DAR in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Esteban Dumagan, the OIC-chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer (CARPO) for Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Development Support Program (ARBDSP), told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday (March 3) that a total of 1,007 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs)

He added that the series of capability building activities and training were conducted from October to December last year. “We are confident that our ARBOs, most of which are cooperatives, are already capable and competent to sustain their livelihood projects,” Dumagan said. Data provided by DARSDS indicated that three ARBOs ventured into egg production and were provided with 683 heads of layers each; and, one ARBO into goat production with dispersal to its members. Each of the 14 ARBOs received 58 piglets with feeds and vitamins for piggery project, the data showed. Covid-19 takes toll on Zambo City aquaculture industry By SALVADOR SANTIAGO

ZAMBOANGA CITY -Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Tuesday the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) scare has also taken its toll on the local aquaculture industry. Salazar said that local exporters of lobsters, crayfish and other seafood that have been supplying markets in China have halted shipments due to the spread of Covid-19 in that country. “It is the Chinese that is importing these products from this city, but our local exporters are now affected since the coronavirus started from Wuhan in China,” Salazar said. The mayor said that the plaque brought by Covid-19 has affected almost all sectors such as airlines, hotels, restaurants, among others. Salazar sees the need to strengthen medical measures in the event the dreaded virus reaches this city. She said that the representatives of the Philippine Medical Association have identified the Mindanao Central Sanitarium General Hospital in Barangay Pasobolong, this city, as the treatment facility for Covid-19 patients. “The city government is taking the lead, thus the need to purchase the needed equipment like the thermal scanners, masks, and other gadgets in order to be prepared,” she said. She called the City Health Office and Department of Health to provide education on health and sanitation as well as health awareness to the public such as the frequent washing of hands to help prevent the spread of the virus. 143 cybercrime cases referred to DCPO in 2019

DAVAO CITY -- A total of 143 cases of cybercrimes were referred to the Cybercrime Unit of the Davao City Police Office last 2019. Police Colonel Noel Espinoza, chief of the Regional Cybercrime Unit XI based at the DCPO told the AFPPNP Press Corps, that of the 143 cybercrime cases, 36 cases were filed in court. He cited their significant accomplishments namely five cases which led to the issuance of warrants of arrests, four cases for entrapment operation, one for the implementation of search warrant and two joint operations with the WCPC unit of the national headquarters. BDO extends free remittance on cash donations to eruption victims ‘til June WITH more overseas Filipinos still wanting to extend their helping hand to their kababayans adversely affected by the Taal eruption, BDO Remit has extended its free remittance campaign on cash donations sent until end-June this year. As of end-January, BDO Remit has collected more than P600,000 in cash donations from overseas Filipinos remitted to different accredited foundations. Bulk of this came from the United States, Japan, and the Middle East. Cash donations collected by BDO Remit offices abroad are then coursed through different foundations namely BDO Foundation, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc., GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc., and Philippine Red Cross. According to Genie T. Gloria, senior vice president and head of remittance of BDO, inquiries and requests (to extend the campaign) are pouring in from different Filipinos communities abroad. “There are still those who want to donate. With this extension, at least they can still catch up and avail of the free remittance fee when they donate to the Taal victims. Even though the COVID-19 epidemic has grabbed everybody’s

attention now, the fact of the matter is the problems caused by the Taal eruption are still present. It’s still a long time before they fully recover,” she said. “If we tell Filipinos abroad that their donations are free (of fees), they are more encouraged to donate, thus, the more people we can help.” The remittance free campaign on cash donations to Taal victims started on January 14 and is in effect originally until March 31, 2020. Gloria explained that Filipinos’ inherent bayanihan spirit, wherever they may be, shines through in times like this. “Filipinos abroad are always willing to help. When calamity strikes back home, they are always willing to assist because they feel that’s their way of paying back for the blessings that they have received (of being able to work abroad),” she added. This complements the advocacy of BDO Remit to waive the remittance fees whenever the country is beleaguered by natural calamities. Aside from the different BDO Remit offices, the Bank’s global remit partners are also receiving cash donations for the benefit of the Taal eruption victims, including Remitly, Small World,

WorldRemit, Azimo, UAE Exchange Centre, and Xpress Money. Regular remittance charges apply. OFs can also visit BDO Kabayan’s Facebook page to know more about this campaign. Earlier, BDO’s remittance

office in Barcelona, Spain has organized a donation drive to the distressed victims of the Taal eruption by putting up drop-off boxes for Filipinos who want to donate in kind. Officers and staff of BDO Remit Spain have also visited Filipino communities in

Barcelona including Filipino Asian stores, restaurants, medical providers, clinics, freight forwarders, travel agencies and grocery stores to promote their donation campaign. These donation boxes will then be delivered to BDO’s

corporate social responsibility arm—BDO Foundation—for distribution to the affected areas. Filipinos living in Barcelona are mostly from Batangas and Cavite, areas that continue to bear the brunt of the volcanic eruption.

2019 Novel Coronavirus is presently affecting 64 countries according to W.H.O., the risk assessment is very high from China, regional and global level. Known to be safe countries like America and Europe are on red alert now. WHO says it is Zoonotic disease and there are speculations that this might be a biological weapon test. In my own perception, this phenomenon is a rapid move for globalization. By this, every country should help one another. Tonight, I heard the TV news that Philippines will buy 1 million surgical masks from India. Globalization has been in the minds of world leaders since 19th century to solve many conflicts around the

world. The WW1 erupted and a League of Nations was organized by European nations. Then WW2 broke out and United Nations was formed headed by the United States of America year 1946. Today, majority of the nations are in great trouble until Corona virus came, there is dire need for global intervention. Please get your bible and read Revelation Chapter 13 verses 11-18, this is a future event where we can see that there will be world leaders who can control the people of the whole earth, take note, the whole people of the world. This is fulfilment of globalization that will take place in the near future. Whether we believe or not, there are world plan-

ners, they are the Super Power nations. The #1 super power nation is U.S.A. then following are Russia, China, European Union and some Arab nations. In the climax of globalization, it will be a cashless world, virtual currency and all people has a tracking device injected in the forehead or right hand. Read Revelation 13: 1718. The beasts that will come out from the sea or water are world leaders, Rev. 13:1. Heads of nations will submit to them, horns of the beasts are heads of nations, Revelation 17:12-13. What is Cayetano up to? WHAT is Speaker Alan Cayetano up to? Until he shook his own house by removing a strong pillar closely identified with Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte, there is neither a storm or tsunami that could shake the foundation of the lower house. By the looks of it, he created his own scenario of a conspiracy to oust him as Speaker. But this is preposterous since, on the basis of a term sharing agreement which had the imprimatur of the Palace, he will exit and be replaced by Marinduque Congressman Lord Alan Velasco come October 2020. If he is a partyman and loyal to Duterte, then why rock the boat? What is his beef against Appropriation Committee

Be always on guard

THAT’s simply because our life will always be in some warfare. And it is not so much in the outside or the visible world as in the inside or the invisible aspects of our life. Our war will be more in our mind, heart and soul, in our thoughts, desires, intentions, memory, imagination, feelings and passions. We need to be more aware of this reality. The Book of Job already warned us about it. “The life of man upon earth is a warfare.” (7, 1) We should not take things for granted. We have to learn the art of spiritual warfare which should be a continuing project for all of us, since the battlefronts of this warfare will always be changing. We have to remember that we are ranged against very powerful enemies, first

among whom are our very own selves, our weakened flesh that can be the most treacherous friend we can have. It is afflicted with a three-fold concupiscence: the concupiscence of the flesh, that of the eyes and the pride of life. Then we have the world that has absorbed the effects of our sinfulness. As a consequence, it now has structures and systems of evil working with great power and influence. Think, for example, of the plague of pornography, corruption and deception, and of the so-called culture of death that now legalizes and normalizes anomalies like abortion, same-sex marriage, euthanasia, etc. And then we have the devil himself, a pure spirit full of malice and cunning, capable of organizing a very

sophisticated conspiracy to trip us in our way to our life eternal in heaven. We should always be wary of him, since he is always hounding us, made worse by the fact that he knows how to make his presence not felt by us. He is good in disguising. Remember St. Paul’s warning: “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph 6, 12) We should not be naïve. Christ himself told us: “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” (Mt 10, 16) The combination between serpentine

shrewdness and dove-like innocence may be tricky, but with God, we can achieve it. There is no doubt about that. We cannot overemphasize the need for extreme vigilance. This is not paranoia, but rather a basic norm of prudence. We have to do some intelligence work to detect as early as possible any oncoming danger and to nip it in the bud. DA-12, Landbank DOLE calls for flexi work, release financial aid other means to deal with Covid-19 to NoCot rice farmers

AMID the creeping impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on global trade and its perceived impact on domestic economies, the labor department announced yesterday a package of measures that would mitigate any potential threat the disease might have on the country’s labor market. In a press briefing, Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that the labor department is preparing a wide-ranging set of actions that would prepare the labor sector from any impact from the epidemic. Bello said that he has tasked all labor officials,

both in the regional offices and those in Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLO), to be on alertfooting to allow a quick reporting system on worker displacements and pave the way for countermeasures. He said the measures will include urging industry leaders to adopt “flexitime” work arrangements for workers in industries that could be affected by an outbreak. The labor secretary also said that DOLE is preparing to reposition some of the department’s financial programs to sectors that might be affected by an

outbreak of COVID-19. He said assistance packages like the Adjustment Measures Program (AMP), Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program (TUPAD), and Government Internship Program (GIP) will be repositioned to help workers in industries that could be affected by the epidemic. In the same press briefing, Undersecretary Ana Dione said that the flexible work arrangements is a better alternative than the outright termination of the services of the employees or the total closure of the establishment.

It has become a regular practice in the Department of Education (DepEd) – Iligan City Division Office (DO) to have its Morning Convocation every Monday. On March 2, 2020; a different convocation spearheaded by the Schools Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) Personnel which started at 7:45 a.m. took place in the Division Conference Hall. As expected, the month of March is for graduation but the group intended to preserve and restore this theme. Instead, SGOD decided to bring the Hawaiian culture in the Philippine soil; specifically in the City of Majestic Waterfalls. The activity started with a Hawaiian prayer for health, wealth, change, healing and peace. This was followed by the various talks of the Schools Division Superintendent (SDS), Assistant Schools Division Superintendent (ASDS), Chief of

Curriculum Implementation Division (CID), and Chief of SGOD where each of them was given a Hawaiian garland with wreath of flowers as a symbol of love, affection, honor, friendship and peace. A Hawaiian dance was then presented by the SGOD team in a complex art form with hand motions representing the chants and words in a song. Moreover, dances in Hawaii signify the aspects of nature like swaying of a tree in the breeze, wave in the ocean, feeling or emotion such as yearning and fondness.

SDS Roy Angelo E. Gazo expressed his impression and appreciation to the SGOD group for coming up with this kind of theme. He added in his speech the presence of Filipino community in Hawaii which brought honor to both Hawaii and Philippines. This Policy aims to: ensure correct knowledge and understanding among learners of effective hygiene and sanitation projects; improve equitable access to safe water, adequate toilets, and hand washing facilities; improve hygiene and sanitation practices among the learners to enable them to develop life-long positive hygiene and sanitation behaviors; ensure that schools are kept clean and safe through school-based solid waste management, proper drainage, the elimination of breeding grounds for mosquitoes to prevent vector-borne diseases, and

food sanitation; and engage public and private partners for program implementation and sustainability. “Our Hands, Our Future” entails the importance of keeping our hands clean always to avoid diseases for these are the part of the body that most come into contact with surfaces that could be covered in bacteria. Often, we then touch our eyes, noses, mouths which is how bacteria and viruses gain access to our bodies to make us ill. WASH in Schools aims to improve the health and learning performance of school-aged students – and, by extension, that of their families – by reducing the incidence of water- and sanitation-related diseases. It also aims to provide safe drinking water, improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities and promote lifelong health for the learners in school. It is achieved through the provision of infrastructure and promotion of hygiene among schoolchildren, their teachers, and parents. In support to this, the Iligan City National High School Canteen under

the initiative of Mrs. Ritchell Q. Echavez, the canteen assistant manager with the help of Mrs. Dina B. Ramos the canteen manager along with their Department Head Mrs. Ann M. Liñan as the consultant with the approval of Mr. Rex L. Razo the school principal is the realization of the hand washing facility inside the school canteen. A thorough planning and series of consultation took place before it was realized. It has been my longtime dream to implement a Wash in School project and watch happy kids washing their hands before and after eating; but, with the existing problem on the inadequacy of water supply in our area it would be next to impossible to sustain such. So, I made up my mind to resolve this said issue. Hence, the implementation of the Deep Well project was put into realization first, for immediate and important matters should be addressed at once. Scarcity on water supply was addressed first Notwithstanding with the financial constraints every public school faces, I made it a point to enact the deep well as PTA project for the first year of my existence as School Head in East Gusa National High School. With the support and effort of the stake holders especially with the financial support prearranged by Gusa Punong Barangay Marlo L. Tabac, my long timed dream had been realized. Students have to fetch no more in the nearby

areas just to clean their comfort rooms in school. 2019 Corona Virus Outbreak In the late 2019 a new virus came into occurrence which started as an endemic illness in Wuhan, China for a quite some time. However, contagious as it is, no vaccine against it, the disease spreads rapidly almost all over the world in just a matter of time. It chooses no age, gender or status in life. Young and old, rich and poor, men and women were all infected and everyday there are reported cases of contaminations and death. WinS Project in Deped The Department of Education had issued an order in 2016 which stated the policy and guidelines on the Comprehensive water, Sanitation and hygiene in school. This urges every school personnel to improve access on water supply and effective hygiene promotion. ILIGAN CITY -- Police arrested on Wednesday morning, a 21-year old man, for possessing several firearms and ammunitions in a police law enforcement operations in Purok 1, Barangay San Miguel, Tudela town, in Misamis Occidental. The police operation was implemented by virtue of search warrant issued on March 3 by Judge Rio Concepcion Achas of the Municipal Trial Court of Cities Branch 2 in Ozamiz City for violation of

Republic Act 10594 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions. Captain Roland Donor, chief of Tudela police, identified the subject of their operation as Rex Obut, single, no specific job as per police record. Donor said Obut, who only finished grade 12, was in their ‘targetlist’ since December last year when someone complaint he was smashed by Obut with a pistol. “We put him under surviellance and when we confirmed the information

that he possesses several firearms and ammunitions, we applied for the search warrant and immediately implement it,” Donor said. Hyundai sales in PH drop 27.6% in January By KRIS CRISMUNDO

MANILA – Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Korean car Hyundai in the Philippines, registered a 27.6-percent decline in its sales in January this year. HARI reported that its vehicle sales dropped to 2,045 units in January from 2,825 units in the same month last year. “The Taal ashfall and Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) later in the month caused a temporary setback, dampening demand and supply chain disruptions, making 2020 a less resilient year,” HARI President and Chief Executive Officer Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said. Perez-Agudo added the ashfall from the eruption of Taal Volcano in January caused its dealership and facilities to close their operations in Metro Manila and in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) area. On the other hand, the Covid-19 that originated in China has delayed the

shipments of vehicles because of the extra health precautions in international and local ports. Hyundai’s sales of passenger cars in the Philippine market declined by 33 percent to 967 units in January this year from 1,443 units a year ago. Light commercial vehicle sales likewise fell by 19.9 percent to 1,053 units last January from 1,315 units sold in the same month of 2019. Sales of commercial vehicles registered the largest decline of 62.7 percent, selling 25 units in the first month of 2020 from 67 units of commercial vehicles sold during the same period the previous year. Despite a less optimistic start for 2020, Perez-Agudo said the impact of these downside risks is manageable. “But given the Philippines’ stable economic fundamentals -- a stable exchange rate, strong private consumption, lower inflation, and interest rates, and robust public spending

Remember Christ saying: “Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns… Even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night and finds them alert, those servants will be blessed…” (Lk 12, 37-38)
