Consultants restudying railway in Davao alignment amid objections

BULUAN, Maguindanao (MindaNews/01 March) – The military bombarded with artillery fire a position of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) Thursday night in Maguindanao province, sources said on Friday.

The shelling came three days after the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) took over from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Mayor Zamzamin Ampatuan of Rajah Buayan town told MindaNews the 40th Infantry Battalion based in his municipality shelled with artillery fire the position of the BIFF, a breakaway group of the MILF. The military conducted a surgical artillery strike after monitoring the movement of the BIFF, he said.

“The military fired artillery against the BIFF position almost the whole night,” Ampatuan said.

Major Arvin Encinas, spokesperson of the 6th Infantry Division, said a fire mission was launched against the BIFF members positioned somewhere in Datu Piang town.

There were no reported casualties as of this time, he said shortly past 11 a.m.

Encinas also said there was also no civilian displacement caused by the artillery fire.

4 ranking female rebels surrender to Army Special Forces

M A N O L O F O RT I C H , Bukidnon -- Four highranking female New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the 1st Special Forces Battalion (1st SFBn) in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

The four rebels vowed to support the government and embrace the rule of law at 10 a.m, February 21, at Bukidnon Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Malaybalay City.

Jackielyn Ann Elaco alias “Lala,” 34 years old, is the Finance Officer and Political Instructor of Platoon Derek, SYP Company 2 of Guerilla Front 68A, SRC4, North Central Mindanao Committee (NCMRC).

Gloria Jandaya, also known as “Diding,” 63, is the staff of the Regional Urban Committee, while her daughter, Gleceria Balangiao alias “Jao,” 34, is the Liaison Staff of Regional Urban Committee.

The youngest of the four, Lorena Micabalo alias “JaiJai,” 24, is the Political Officer of SYP Company 3, SRC4, NCMRC. “Lala” turned over assorted medicines, medical and dental kits, which she admitted are being used to treat injured NPA terrorists during encounters with government troops.

She also gave up cell phones and a personal computer (Acer tablet). These gadgets are now under “contents forensics and analysis” to ensure that the kept information can be used in court as proof in the filing of cases against individuals and organizations linked to the CPP-NPA. DepEd LDN grants financial support to Muslim private schools LANAO DEL NORTE -- The Department of Education (DepEd) Lanao del Norte will grant financial support to Muslim private schools or “Madaris” in the province to improve their operational capabilities in implementing DepEd mandated curriculum K to 12 program.

In a consultative conference for private Madaris operators held at Mindanao Civic Center, Function Room, Tubod, Lanao del Norte, DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Roy Angelo E. Gazo emphasized the prescribed

subjects in the K to 12 curriculum must be offered by private Madaris, in addition to Islamic religious subjects.

25 coops receive farm machinery from DA Lanao Sur MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur -- Twenty-five coop-beneficiaries from rice-growing municipalities in the province received farm machinery from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Lanao del Sur Provincial Office Wednesday, February 27.

Provincial Agriculture Officer Pangalian A. Balindong, Jr. led the distribution of machinery that included 12 units Pump Irrigation System Open Source (PISOS), two transplanters, two reapers, one farm tractor with trailers, four mobile rice mill, two threshers, and two floating tillers.

The distribution is a component of the Rice Banner Program which aims to increase farmers’

productivity thru farm mechanization.

Testing the operation of a mechanical reaper, Balindong said the machinery would help farmers by cutting short the time and labor spent in har vesting, just as the other machinery, intended for specific farm operations.

This is apparently evidenced by the several bricks of cocaine found drifting in the archipelago’s eastern seaboard – from Quezon province down to Siargao and Davao coast.

If true, what could have motivated the Colombian drug cartels to expand their business in the Philippines?

Well, they are probably aware that the drug distributed in the Philippines is

Farmer’s group in Davao Del Sur is first recipient of socialized credit program

AS uncertainty remains rife with talks of the liberalization of the sugar trade, a 124-member farmers’ cooperative finds reprieve after availing themselves of a socialized credit program.

The Pasig Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries and Upland Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PARBUFMPC) has earned the distinction of being the first beneficiary of the Republic Act 10659 or the Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2015.

PARBUFMPC signed last December a P3.64-million loan agreement with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) in Davao City.

productivity, product diversification, job generation and increased efficiency of sugar mills.

Orilla said he expects the agrarian reform beneficiaries, who are mostly sugarcane workers and farmers, to be encouraged to work harder as they need not go to loan sharks for farm inputs at a high interest rate.

PARBUFMPC chairperson Josephine L. Barsalote thanked the DAR-XI for its continued support. She said the agency helped the group avail themselves of the much-needed financial

capital for their farming activities at a very minimal interest rate of two percent per annum.

Barsalote added the loan extended to them came at the right moment. It allowed them to purchase farm inputs, amidst rising cost of commodities.

Jose Enedicto G. Faune, assistant vice president of LBP’s Davao Lending Center, noted DAR-XI “for being a dependable partner” in helping sugarcane farmers.

DAVAO CITY -- A payroll management firm is eyeing at least 10 percent of Davao companies to go for automated payroll using its application system.

Jonathan Engalla, the head of sales of Salarium, said in a press conference on Thursday that he is eyeing more companies in Davao to shift from manual payroll preparation to elevate human resource (HR) management and make it more efficient and faster.

Salarium, a payroll software in the country, is being used by more than 500 companies across the globe, Engalla said, adding that the system is akin to using

“Companies can quickly and easily create an account.

It also boasts of secured and safe service because access to services is highly encrypted using industry standard protocol, performs full data backups, and follows the Philippine Data Privacy Act provisions,” he said.
