COTABATO CITY:-The Bangsamoro Sultanate of Lanao headed by Sultan Edrieza H. Nasser Rimbang Al-Haj, a Parliament member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) recognizes and confirms that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte (PRRD) has a Maranao blood lineage. This confirmation came after when MP Sultan Rimbang Al-Haj made a series of consultation from among Counsel of Elders and Sultans representatives from the Pat-a-Pangampong of Ranao, along with the Igma and Taritib of the Maranaos. CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental: All popular beaches and pilgrimage sites in this port capital of 800,000 people were ordered close during the weeklong observance of the Holy Week starting Saturday. BFAR-10 turns over certificate for SAAD projects to Lanao Norte fisherfolk LANAO del Norte -- Fisherfolk in the province received fishery livelihood projects after a certificate of turnover was granted to the provincial local government through Provincial Governor Imelda Quibranza Dimaporo. Initiated by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-10 through its Lanao del Norte Provincial Field Office, fishermen specifically residing in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) were granted their own livelihood projects under the agency’s Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program. According to Noel Saldajeno, Lanao del Norte Provincial Fisheries Officer, sets of equipment that can help fishermen in their daily living were part of the package brought by the SAAD program. He also added that this is just the start of the establishment of a relationship between BFAR-10 and the local government. “The projects were given to all municipalities here in Lanao del Norte. The project comprises field post-harvest facilities, fish cage, fish pen, and fiberglass boat. Other than that, we also extend technical assistance in order for these facilities to be utilized in its fullest operation. The turnover of these facilities is just the beginning of our partnership
with the local government unit,” Saldajeno said. “This is an eye-opener for our local chief executives to look into projects that BFAR has already extended to the fisherfolk,” he added. The SAAD program will last for three years and beneficiaries of this program are aided within the plotted span of time. Meanwhile, Saldajeno stressed that to sustain the SAAD program beyond the three-year allotted time, the local government units granted with the projects may render financial assistance with the transition to the future execution of the ruling on Mandanas case wherein some functions of the national agencies will be devolved to the local government units. “Since this is only a threeyear program so after this, the fisherfolk will be going to take off by themselves as BFAR cannot give them assistance anymore… Hopefully, since there is already a Mandana’s rule, the local government will extend their financial assistance to have a sustainable project under the special area for agricultural development,” he said. With this, Saldajeno appealed to the local government officials to assure the progression of implemented projects through apportioning a budget to cover this. See PROJECTS, page 9

PARENTS, your kids are watching you. Sex education begins at home. And as a society, we are in the midst of a massive shift in this direction. School-based sexuality education is crucial, but it is supplementary at best. What happens in the home is vital if we want to see real change. Talking to children about gender equality and respectful relationships is important. But parents must also show their children what they expect from them by modelling behavior that demonstrates their belief in the right of people of all genders to have safe, pleasurable and respectful sexual encounters. Parents are perfectly positioned to be front-line sexuality educators.
Positive communication between parents and children greatly helps young people establish individual values and make healthy decisions. Children want to hear from them. It is, after all, parents, not teachers, who have regular and long-term contact with children from birth onwards. Parents can influence activities and choices beyond school hours, have the benefit of knowing the needs and developmental stage of their children, and can present information in a way that aligns with their family values and circumstances. Children take their lead from their parents. The notion humans can learn through observing others is not new.

Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-10 (BFAR-10) Regional Director Teodoro Bacolod Jr. disclosed during the Panguil Bay Development Council (PBDC) meeting Tuesday, March 23, that a $100 million budget is allocated for the Panguil Bay development. He cleared that the said budget was loaned from the World Bank and not a grant. With this, he urged the local government units along the bay area to submit relevant, timely, and immense project proposals for the development and sustainability of Panguil Bay to efficiently utilize such amount. “We have to take this opportunity to present projects. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” THAT’S one of the last words of Christ (cfr. Mt 27,46) before he gave up his spirit on the cross. It’s an intriguing statement, considering that Christ is God who can absorb and suffer anything as if in a breeze. Nothing could actually bother or disturb him. But let’s remember that Christ is also a man. He is God the Son who assumed our human nature precisely to save us. And in saving us, he had to pay for our sins. He bore all our sins and the consequences that go with our sins. He had to do this because he is the very pattern of our humanity. He is also the savior of our humanity that has been damaged by our sin. And so, his suffering and death are real. They are not just theatrics, something simply staged and contrived. Since Christ is one person with two natures, his suffering and death are not just in his human side. The whole Christ, the whole person of Christ in his divinity and humanity, suffered and died. If we cannot fully understand that, just leave it at that. It’s a mystery, just as how one person can have
two natures is also a mystery. We are not expected to understand this mystery fully. This is where we have to bow down to what our faith tells and accept what it teaches us. Truth is, that Christ had to voice out that ‘complaint’ to the Father simply points to one clear fact—that all our sins that he bore are no mean or petty thing. They are truly horrible things that would make even the God-made-man express such pain. And we cannot deny the most serious gravity of our sinfulness. Even the most saintly among us fall into sin, not only from time to time but all the time. And it’s not just small and simple sins, but rather deadly sins. Our sinfulness has also become habitual. Many are already obsessed and addicted to sin. Besides, our sinfulness is not anymore simply personal. It has become systemic, structural, inculturated. The situation can be so bad that we can even say that the sense of sin is disappearing. No wonder then that Christ who had to bear all our sins could not help but make that filial ‘complaint’ to his Father.

He went all the way such that he also said, “It is finished.” (Jn 19,30) He said this when after saying, “I thirst,” he was offered in a most malicious way a sponge of sour wine. The consideration of these complaining words of Christ should motivate us to be more active in resisting sin and to be more willing and generous in our suffering. We should assume the mind of Christ toward suffering whenever we are made to suffer because of our sin and the sin of the others. That way, we would know that our suffering would have a redemptive value. It should motivate us also to try our best to clean up our environment and our culture of anything that are already sinful or that can be an occasion of sin.

The Department of Education’s (DepEd) General Santos City division is seeking endorsement from the local government to include two local schools in the proposed pilot implementation of the limited face-to-face classes. DepEd has identified the Aspang Elementary School and Aspang High School in Barangay San Jose as sites for the test run of the initiative. They selected the two schools due to their readiness to conduct the limited face-to-face classes. The area, specifically Purok Aspang in San Jose, has not recorded any confirmed case of the coronavirus virus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and the health protocols are already in place on the school
premises. The schools have enough classrooms to accommodate 15 to 20 learners and have installed support facilities, such as hand washing and sanitation areas. Based on the proposed system, the learners would be divided into two groups, with one attending the pilot classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and the other on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The two schools have about 200 combined learners from Grades 1 to 10 and 12 assigned teachers. The main considerations are the regular wearing of face masks and face shields for everyone, and the no-entry policy in the school premises will be strictly implemented.

TO WELLNESS The internet will nourish us with what we hunger for. If we are interested in science, the algorithms used by YouTube, Facebook and other platforms will suggest more things about science. All resources in a click of your finger tip. However, the internet can also feed us fears — is it a blessing or a curse? It is important to teach our children to become aware that behind almost everything on the web somebody is being paid, even when we simply look at the ads. This “free” information has a cost somewhere. Sometimes they are not after our money, but want to manipulate us. Computer algorithms suggest things similar to what we previously viewed. Eventually, our perception of life can become over-filtered, focused. This can be for good when following your positive interests, but bad if these interests follow fear. Media channels our interests, as time goes by this can alter our perception of the outside world. We no longer are exposed to the larger reality of everything in society and the universe by just being confined in the web. If we are fearful, the internet will give us more of the
things we are fearful about. The recent crisis in America was fueled as people became paranoid and victims of irrational ideas, including conspiracy theories. Many people, especially if they have low self-esteem, will feel special, at least for awhile, when they think they have discovered a conspiracy that other people don’t know about. The puppet masters, the troll farmers, the perpetrators, hint about the desired conclusions. They have “pre-seeded” the conclusions. These manipulators point out a meaning for events that fits the propaganda message they are delivering. In the past, if you had a crazy idea, your family and friends would tell you “It’s a crazy idea” and it would die out. However now, you can connect with billions on the internet and you can easily find somebody who is even crazier than you. People can create their own alternative world and join crazy clubs, and go on a conspiracy adventure not that much different than playing a fantasy game. The internet can be very deceitful. Always verify the truthfulness of any information before sharing it. As they say “think before you click”.

Learners may review or fast tract their lessons before submitting. Learners have the opportunity to look for other learning resources to aide the instruction given. Asynchronous has lots of advantages of advantages as mentioned above, but it has also its disadvantages. With this kind of learning, learners will experience lim-
ited access to their teacher’s personally. They may also experience limited feed backing mechanisms which some learners need it in guiding their progress. The present economic condition of our country, our public school learners have limited access to the internet or gadgets to use during distance learning. Our government are finding ways to address this gap. In asynchronous, teachers will serve as a dispenser of knowledge with multiple task to perform. They will serve as instructional-designer which is learner-centered. They will facilitate the learning process with full of challenges in delivering education during this pandemic time. It is essential to attract, recruit and retain quality teachers in rural and remote schools for provision of quality education to rural and remote students. Rural and remote schools experience persistent difficulties in recruiting and retaining teachers. In times and places of persistent teacher shortages, teacher quality of worklife issues are paramount. Factors impacting on teacher quality of worklife may impact on teacher retention, staffing levels and ultimately the quality of education for children. Protective factors can be enhanced and risk factors reduced. The education of rural children has been recognized as a significant equity issue. Proposals to address this problem include selection procedures to
match teachers to school and community characteristics, improved pay and conditions for teachers and school executives, staffing practices to reduce numbers of young teachers appointed to rural schools, specific pre-service preparation of rural teachers, improved induction, partnerships with rural communities, increased resources for professional development, improved housing and improved information about rural teaching. Moreover, seven priorities are identified – access to participation in education and training for students to achieve potential, meeting the needs of students at risk, recognition and support of cultural diversity, enhancement of the value of education and appropriate resourcing.

Dinagat Islands town to receive P10-M fund for infra projects MANILA - The municipality of Loreto in Dinagat Islands province will be receiving P10 million worth of funds for infra projects, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar bared on Wednesday, two days after meeting the town’s local chief executive, Mayor Doandre Bill Ladaga. Secretary Andanar was in Loreto on March 22 for the conduct of the Explain, Explain, Explain information drive on the National COVID-19 Vaccination Roadmap. According to Secretary Andanar, the PCOO was able to reach out to the Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, who swiftly responded and pledged to help establish a Malasakit Center in the town. This is apart from the P10 million funding for infrastructure and improvement of Loreto’s road networks. Mayor Ladaga sat as guest for a taped interview of an episode of PCOO’s Network Briefing News, where he sought the assistance of the national government for projects that can enhance economic opportunities there, apart from his invitation to investors to invest in the town’s tourism potential. “Kami po ay nag-e-encourage ng mga investors na sana po ay mayroon nang magkalakas ng loob na mag-invest sa atin dito para

The Covid-19 Pandemic caused upsets in almost every aspect of education at once. It was not just the move from classrooms to computer screens. It opened new strategies and policies on school instruction, attendance, testing, funding, the role of technology and the human connections. Opportunities unfolded to reimagine what schools will look like. However scholars say that it is always important to continue to think about how to evolve schooling so the students get the most out of it. Others in education see a similar opening. The pandemic pointed anew to glaring inequities of race, disability and income. Learning loss is getting new attention. Schools with poor ventilation systems are being upgraded. Teachers induced into teaching virtually found lessons that will last longer. There are a lot of posibilities that will happen because we’ve been forced into this uncomfortable situation. The reality is that this is going to change education forever. After a year when some systems did nothing but teach by computer screen, it has become clear that learning virtually has a place in the nation’s schools as an option. Some education experts suggest that remote learning is for everyone. The pandemic showed, unmistakably, that most students learn best in person — in a three-dimensional world, led by a teacher, surrounded by classmates and activities. But school systems across the global community are looking at remote learning as a way to meet diverse needs — for teenagers who have jobs, children with certain medical conditions,
or kids who prefer learning virtually. It has also emerged as a way to expand access to lesscommon courses. Students would regularly interact with teachers and have mostly live instruction.. To make it work, some of the teachers would only be remote. Parent interest was one impetus for the program. But the pandemic has helped us see that it is possible and can be done. Remote learning is a supplement, not a substitute, for in-school instruction. Classroom learning is best for most students and that virtual school can mean intense isolation. Staring at a screen all day is not optimal. Zoom fatigue is real, said one expert. The quality of remote learning varied widely, with parents complaining about the lack of live instruction and individual attention as well as technical difficulties. Even many families who want remote learning to continue want the modules improved. Virtual classes also led to spike in failing grades for the most vulnerable students in some areas, including English language learners. Across the country an unprecedented number of students have gone off the computer screens as schools try to track them down. Parents commented that while remote education has worked for some families, most kids have struggled — and the toll on mental health and social well-being is now very apparent. Any program,t he said, should be efficiently operated by the government, with a dedicated budget so “the needs of virtual learning don’t interfere with in-person learning, and vice versa.”
